This is sickening 😢 I know of so many people living from couch to couch waiting years for a home and these are sitting here wasted. I had no idea Great video ❤ I’ll be subbing for more
Thank you Sarah and you're welcome and great to have you on the channel. I'll be bringing more light to some of the other areas across Adelaide and beyond. I think without pressure nothing improves with these areas and people get forgotten about which is the worst. Cheers again
Definitely Angel it's probably similar maybe to sections of Mt Druitt in Sydney? It was so good he came out and was willing to show us around. Hope you're keeping well my friend 🤗😍
Ive been living in Elizabeth Vale along the backside of Harry Bowey Reserve for over 21 years now. Its a quiet place here, and we have lovely neighbours that have been here longer than i have. Im very grateful this Elizabeth suburb isn't as bad as the "Elizabeth reputation" suggests. The government is currently rebuilding the local shopping hub (adjacent to the Lyle McEwin Hospital) so it's easier access for the local community residents and the many Elderly in the area. It's a very slow progress, but a lot of Housing SA homes here are getting renovation upgrades, however most in the area have already been sold off privately.
You should see Cannon Street, Dale, ship and Quebec streets in port Adelaide. That area is shocking and no boarded up houses. Lived there for several years and was able to get housing in a great street now. But behind me is rough as I've gone from the western subs to the Sth of city and I am so loving life were I am now. Thanks for bringing this to other people who have no idea what it can be like. HTSA is shocking but I am happy about thankful for having my home.
You're welcome mate and thank you for letting me know about those homes. I actually lived in Dale Street for a bit hmm 10~ years ago and I remember it being alright back then. I'll have to investigate these areas and bring some light on them. No one should live in areas with such decay and neglect from both private owners and housing SA. Cheers for sharing your experience there.
I went from Kilburn, to Elizabeth Vale, to Payneham. It would take a few dozen people to make me move out of here, even though it's a very small unit, the area is much better
with my little family facing homelessness myself an all these homeless families, this is completely insane!! a complete disgrace, this needs to get shared far n wide!!
I hope you and your family can find a safe place to call home, Simone. There really does need to be more pressure and exposure of these places so people aren't forgotten. The mainstream media just doesn't cover these streets enough and the deeper issues at play are ignored by all tiers and colours of government. Stay safe and well
@@simone75n needs current affair on it . But I think they only have that show in queensland worth sending them some emails . To much of this is hidden .
I’ve seen people get hit in the back of the head with machetes in that small little block. Everyone thinks north and south are rough but they all forget about Little Chicago
Yikes that is some serious stuff to see happen 😷. I think there are a few pockets of places like this that as you say get overlooked for the North or south suburbs with historic "reputations". This particular street reminded me a little bit of Baltimore in the US when I visited last year. Rough vibe to it but still some good people there in amongst the trouble makers. Thanks for watching mate
Why do all the rough neighbourhoods in Australia 🇦🇺 always have some American city connected to them 🤔. Melbourne’s got “The Bronx” in Broadmeadows, yet can’t a place just be bad without taking on a Yankee name.
Interesting observation Paul and I guess it's because much that occurs in Australia sorta follows culturally from the US and less so UK and Canada. That'd be my guess, anyway.
These are old South Australia Housing Trust homes. Low income earners, single parents, aged pensioners, etc... The government must have sold them off. So sad to see them this way.
I think so too regarding the selling off. We can only hope once fully demolished and redeveloped that these streets can come alive again with decent folks. It is a sad thing to see so much decay and neglect across so many levels plus the crime it has brought to the area. Thank you for your comment
It's funny seeing people call them old when they're at least 30 years newer than the ones we grew up in. If they were anything like ours they would have had 0 maintenance in all those years minus the odd coat of paint or a dry wall patched, they'll get demo'd for good reason.
Davoren park near elizabeth is also a bad area, i invested in a rental house there and ended up selling because of slack property / realestate managment, bad tennants, theft and damage, it was more trouble than it was worth and when the police were called after a breakin and theft episode they were not interested even though i told them who was responsible and neighbours also witnessed it, it fell back to insurance company. Then the shonky assessor tried to under pay the claim by 3/4, it was just a giant headache.
Sorry to hear your situation Jane. It is not good enough when serious crimes are not taken seriously, it seems. I hope you've been able to move to a safer location 🤞🏻. I appreciate you sharing your story. .
I think the government is doing urban renewal in Kilburn too like you indicate happened in Smithfield Plains and other areas. Let's just hope it improves the area's safety overall hey. Thank you for your comment and sharing that Jamie
True, I live there and it's way different from then, unfortunately with all new houses it's creating the same situation slowly but surely. Generally no services would go alone always with multiple people's. It's my kinda area cause it's safe for us locals.
Hi Ben and I bet you'd have seen a lot during that time and actually one of my Members on my channel spent some time living in Nelson Street and said how it always had a rough reputation. We can only hope and put pressure on the powers that be to make positive changes and encourage residents to take action themselves too, hey. Thank you for sharing your input and it'd be good to hear some of what you saw.
@Tonymarony5113 ahh fair enough mate yeah I wasn't sure just remember my Dad saying about Nailsworth Tech but I don't personally know the history of the school unfortunately.
Definitely Irish Love. It's slowly getting redeveloped but there seems to be many others like this street that need some attention on them and I plan to do more videos of these kinds of places to hopefully get pressure on government and private owners to fix these places up 🤞🏻
They abonded while blocks are n Elizabeth and Elizabeth south. It was this bad before the bullzors tore it all down. The whole area is lost to drugs, and prostitution has risen too.
@@Right-Is-Rightloved growing up in Elizabeth South, always felt safe as shit there, there were worse places to be in the 90s.. woodville 😂 Davvo Park
It's sad to see,I was born and raised in Kilburn,a stones throw from that place.I lived on Prospect road (between Brunwick St and Northcote St),from 1958--till about 1985 and it was great, every one looked after their homes. My Dad looked after the gardens,it was beautiful, now it's all gone to shit.I had a happy child hood there, alot of fond memories.
Sounds like you had a great life there and it is sad Norm that it's gone downhill in the past decade or 2. We can only hope governments and developers do some improving to these areas and also attract people who have some self respect and respect for peace and well being of their neighbourhood 🤞🏻
These old trust places were pretty solid . I spent alot of time around Blair Athol and Mansfield park areas in the 90's . Rough areas but lots of decent people in them . Sad to see them going to waste when housing in Adelaide is definitely hard to get
G'day Nev. I agree and I think they're nice homes structure wise, just it's sad sometimes a minority of folks really disrespect their places they're provided and it ruins it for the decent people living nearby. As you say it's a really disappointing situation when housing is at an all-time low supply wise and there are people living rough. Thank you for sharing your thoughts mate.
@DrewsAdventuresGo thanks for posting, it's nice to see parts of Adelaide that I don't get to see anymore. I have lived interstate for awhile now and this was a good trip down memory lane. Have a nice night. 😊
I’m glad the guy spent some time and telling you about the neighbourhood cheers to him. I’ve seen a few bad neighbourhoods but this is sad😢. What a awesome video Drew cheers my friend😊
Much of the housing trust stock in Kilburn was built just after WW2, early 1950’s, some for returned servicemen and their families. I met a lady in her 90’s, (in 2010) who had moved in, when they were first built.
I reckon the walls would have some fascinating history. My late pop lived somewhere in Prospect I think and was a WW2 soldier. I don't know if his own house was Housing Trust or not. Thank you for sharing this piece of history.
the ones up the Churchill road end, everyone worked at (then) Tubemakers, the place that looks like an old government workshop area on the other side of Churchill road there. I used to know a few of the old ladies who all worked there, back in the early 90's. I would hate to own one of those apartments on the corner of Churchill and Cromwell, remember that scrap yard there?
Oh my gosh that is one scary street and it’s a shame that all the homes are so destroyed when there is a housing shortage and unfortunately they would all have to be demolished great explore
It all starts at the exact same place for the older housing trust homes, a cracked roof tile or two. Then after years of the maintained being concentrated on the inside, the roof framing is rotted away too much for the housing trust to bother repairing. Then the ceiling eventually collapsed in a room.
I've lived in similar houses in Kilburn, back in 2003... Most have been pulled down for brand new houses now... I used to run the Squatters Union back in the 70s and 80s 😊
HaY IV tried going there ..always seems t be closed ..is it OVER f the S'ARMS ,is that the 1 near the ice arena & George St ..tho the one near the brewery is opened ..I think it's called Southwark brewery 🎉 called in a few times wen grabbing my vape stuffs ..always seems empty ..MayB I need t call in wen the workers hav finished f the day or wkend ,is it ever busy?🤪
Thanks for the video Drew, almost like the set of Snowtown the movie, they actually filmed that when the SA Housing trust were upgrading the Davoren Park area, I suspect this whole area will be redeveloped. After 41 years in my shitty house that needs major repairs I have been given a maintenance transfer, trying to look at it all as a positive and a change for me which I know I need
I hope they will come soon and help you Silvana. If we all push for better public housing it'd do a world of good. Thank you so much my friend and hope you are well 🤗😍
@@DrewsAdventuresGo thanks needing hugs 🤗 I'm struggling but managing to keep my head above water, mum is now in a nursing home with very little time left I think 😭 so hard going through it all alone
I live in Elizabeth Vale am 67 live in a Retirement village it's very quiet thankfully...but know the area you are visiting! Been like this for years! 😢
I'm glad you have a safe and good community, Penny. It's just so sad to see some areas get left behind isn't it? Let's hope government and other services can somehow turn these zones around into positive places for people and communities 🤞🏻
Wow, Drew, I did not realize that Adelaide had these problems with government housing. I recently saw another video from an Adelaide beginning creator, Bobsta who grew up in these housing complexes and was shocked. I lived in public housing in Houston and the Housing Authority was much more stringent there. It is called Section 8 Housing Assistance. Although there were druggies and shootings in Houston complexes, they had mandatory drug testing if they were suspected of drug use they would lose their benefit.👍
Yes I know of Bobsta and he's a great creator. Indeed I remember seeing some Section 8 Housing in Baltimore when I was there last year. It's fascinating how similar Australia and US and Canada are in terms of their public Housing and how it often similarly went downhill. Here they don't drug test anyone for housing, that I am aware of, but they will evict tenants if they don't keep the house to a reasonable condition. That said, many homes both public and private are a mess here and often child protection services stories come up where things have gone horribly wrong and children, especially, have fallen through the system cracks as we'd say. Thank you for watching Frank and I hope you're keeping well mate 🤗
Kilburn isn't the western suburbs, My family and I live in housing trust in the western suburbs of Adelaide and it's a fantastic little unit, built in 2018, ( it's my missus place, she got it after fleeing 20 years of domestic violence from her former partner, of her other children live with their grandmother due to their father, my missus and I have a 2 year old together, she lives with us) we've scrimped and saved up and bit by bit done it up and turned it in to a home
@Il-bebbux yes I got that bit wrong it's more inner north (Kilburn). Well done on all you have achieved too and I'm glad you have got a great family home now and that you were able to help your partner and are living a good life. Well done and thank you for sharing your experience.
I guess we'll see. Down the road a fair bit were some newer homes but no idea who resides in, or owns them, hey. Australia has always been a nation of immigration I suppose.
I think a 20 story apartment block made for low income earners would be a far better solution to the homeless problem than just fixing 4 or 5 housing trust flats?? Seems like a great idea but the government doesn't actually just build giant brand new apartments and just give them to refugees! Only racists and idiots think the government just loves buying houses and cars for new arrivals!
I lived on Solent AVE for a while, I lived in a few parts of Kil-Burn over 2 years or so, that area was a massive Heroin area just like Mansfield park. It's always been a shit hole and all they did was move the junkies out to suburbs further away and dispersed the heroin problem further around the area. Government knew the problems and never did anything about it, All of housing SA knew about streets like this and just turned a blind eye to the filth and drug addicts they had in housing SA houses
It always strikes me as strange cos the areas you mention are reasonably close to the city but seem to be a forgotten zone and left to all sorts of anti social behaviour like drugs and fights etc. Thanks for your comment too
@DrewsAdventuresGo you have no idea of the perversion and drug addicts that live under all our noses, every area has it's shit but Kil-Burn has always been bad
I grew up in Kilburn in the 70'80's it was a great place to grow up then a tuff joint all the people in housing trust house,s took pride in their homes then they started putting certain races of people in trust homes and then Kilburn went to shit and they fucked up a great place,,, Danny b
I think the older days people still looked after each other a bit more. Never perfect but definitely better standards in society. Thank you for sharing that too 😊
Came across this video randomly after seeing another creator doing Adelaide suburbs. Quite sad to see a property in this state where parts of the ceiling have collapsed with insulation everywhere. Shame that no one has paid attention to clean it up and whether it can be repaired and house people in need. Great video though, hope to see more.
Thank you mate and you are 100% spot on. Governments seem to neglect these areas and let things rot and ruin causing so many problems to decent folks living in the areas. Thank you for sharing your thoughts mate 😀
All good mate! I had a nostalgic moment when you showed the VHS tape, and of course the thick White Pages book (I think Yellow Pages was bigger from memory). I kind of miss those days for some reason.
@Higgzii oh same mate re VHS. My childhood was VHS (90s / 00s) and everytime I see them I think of those times and I also remember the White and Yellow Pages too. I think the last time I saw a decent size book was in the early 00s mate. Good nostalgia indeed
You're spot on Pocket Watch mate. It's going to be interesting to see how the future pans out for this area. Unfortunately the battlers there will probably miss out still
And there are such abandoned houses in many of the suburbs where public housing has been emptied … and we’re facing a homeless-unaffordable housing "crisis" … fricken disgraceful …
Absolutely unfortunately there are and across our country in other states / territories too. I just feel so sorry for the folks who are trapped by circumstances beyond their control and have to live in amongst these problematic areas. Thank you for your comment mate
@DrewsAdventuresGo i have a friend who recently purchased a home in a country town and has been trying to get a response from the South Australia housing trust about the replacing of a very ramshackle fence between the two properties. She can get no response from them, to even start the process.
@downtoearth1950 that's so poor form of them mate. Surely someone can answer a darn email about something like that and fences are something meant to be split payment 50/50, I think here in South Australia? I hope they get someone replying. Maybe tell them to CC a local MP in the email. Good luck 👍🏼
@@downtoearth1950 Good luck, we waited nearly 2 years to have them repair a termite ridden fence that was falling apart, so glad to get out of gov housing.
I had a big family housing trust home in SA and asked for an emergency transfer to another place which would be closer for me to medical specialists etc. I also asked for the transfer as I no longer needed the big SA housing trust home as my kids left home over 20 years ago so it was only me left in it so I thought a family may need the house I was in. Anyway, they gave me my transfer (after THREE years) but gave my previous big family home with the large back yard to a SINGLE guy. I was shocked seeing so many families are needing SA Housing homes.
I agree Tanya. I'm a single man and I would be mortified to get too big a house for me and then I'd think there's others with families who would need a larger home. The way decisions are done in government departments seems really quite average. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
It sure is Trude. An absolute sad mess at present but the government is acting to clean it up. Definitely go for a drive and check it out at the moment my friend you'll be shocked 😲
Hi I have just discovered your channel. These are great videos. Its such quite sad with a housing crisis that Adelaide has all of these abandon and trashed home, units and building cant accommodate some of these people who are in crisis. The Elizabeth east shops are terrible, I used to use that Post Office quite regularly when I lives not far from there. The landlords and the council need to made aware and accountable of the sorry state that there in. There are plenty of other shopping malls in Elizabeth that are in a sorry state as well, Elizabeth north, the fields and Deveron park shops come to mind. There is a old catus farm on Port Wakefield rd near wild horse plains that has been abandon for many years. This was a Tourist attraction in the 70s and 80s. Also Lakeside Leasure park at Hackham has been abandon for many years as well. Keep up the good work cheers
G'day Ashley and thank you mate for your comment and sharing those memories too. I have checked the Port Wakefield cactus farm but get vibes it's now probably too off limits but my friends Heather and Werner did get there when it was more accessible. I think also it's been trashed sadly by not-so-explorers so it's sorta ruined the history aspect there but I'm always on the lookout for places which are definitely abandoned and got history so let me know of any you think would be good too. My email is on my About me part here on RUclips mate. Cheers again and look forward to bringing more stories for you and others to watch 😀
It wouldn't surprise me sadly. I will have to Trove that (National Library of Australia) as those crimes often we don't hear as much of as opposed to the big horrible events that occurred in SA. Thank you for your comment.
@@DrewsAdventuresGo Don't need to Trove it, it was Ross Avenue, Blair Athol. About 500 Meters from where I live. A few hundred meters South is Kilburn oval, another prime venue for stabbing murders and suspicious deaths.
@raygale4198 fair enough Ray and that sounds like it's own story that needs telling. I think Adelaide has a lot of very suspicious stuff given our population isn't that big, too. Thank you for adding that information mate 👍🏼
Yes sadly these big backyards are a bit of a shrinking thing in Australia. Partially due to high density living and partially because of people wanting less maintenance I think on their yards. I wish we still had homes with decent fireplaces. They don't build them like that anymore hey. Cheers for your comment
Lived in a house similar in Elizabeth South back in late 70's for about 2 years, my first housing trust home. Never felt comfortable living there, lots of bogans up the street.Made sure everything was locked up before going out. Ended up buying a house in Salisbury Downs, a much happier place although still a few loose ends living around the corner. I guess you find them in just about every suburb.
I'd probably feel similar, dits. I think you're spot on regarding neighbours making or breaking an area for quality of life. Glad you found a better spot and thank you for sharing your story 😊
Hi the guy that showed you around I used to own his house it wasn't as bad back then but the house next door has been abandoned now for about 15 years that I know of.
Yeah he's a top fellow and really great tour guide. It's so crazy to see how these places can be left empty for so long and a danger for everyone around these areas. Thank you for sharing your experience mate.
And a bit of background information on the owner of the abandoned house there was a Vietnamese family that owns the house that you featured they used to live there but owned other houses and when the father passed away they moved into one of their other houses but we're returning to check on the place every now and then but obviously this stopped and they just let it go so sad it was not a bad house.
This is just an old housing trust area, they are dated and scheduled for demolition. The residents are being re located one family at a time. But way to go, make it into something that it's not.
The local fellow said in the video that there's crime and anti social issues there. It is indeed being demolished and cleaned up but there's been a lot of problems along the way. Let's hope it gets a great renewal. Thanks for your comment mate.
@@La_Dame_aux_chats Go to newer developed areas on google maps, go into street view and set the date back a decade, you'll find a lot of those places used to look just like this.
Thank you Stevie and I think so, too. Unless a place has probate over it then a vacancy tax would be a great way to try make sure these places don't fall into a state of decay and disrepair when they could be actively lived in 💯
The Australian and South Australian government need to do better. I know this has been said countless times but the more it's expressed maybe something will be done. So many people and families with children facing homelessness and home's like this stand like this. The government need to start putting taxpayers money into restoring these places and putting people in them instead of buying $4.5 million dollar houses for themselves!
GOOD POINT !! BUT PEOPLE NEED TO START LOOKING AFTER THEIR RENTAL PROPERTIES AND NOT WRECK THEM AND FORCING SMALL INVESTORS TO SELL BECAUSE WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF CLEANING OTHER PEOPLES SHIT ,,,, PEOPLE CAUSING DAMAGE TO GOVERNMENT HOUSING ARE PAYING BACK approx. $10.00 a week ... OUT OF THEIR DOLE MONEY !!!!! GO FIGURE IT OUT ???? I AM SELLING !!!!!!
Are there still abandoned schools or gov buildings around in the suburbs to film? Like there had previously been an old 80s girls tech school that closed in Elizabeth but had been left standing and empty as late as 2009 with no redevelopment. Not sure if they got around to demolishing or repurposing Smithfield High School either... Cool video, definitely interesting to see what becomes of a home in these circumstances
That is a really good question. I was never really into exploring abandoned places till a few years ago but I did know of Smithfield Plains High being abandoned and I think recently it was demolished? My best friend Heather in this video has filmed the former Morialta High School. Thank you for your encouragement and kind words and I will try do an update soon 😊
@@DrewsAdventuresGo I went googling and found the Smithfield Plains school was unfortunately subject to arson in 2019 or 2020, but it has a whole website with pics showing the condition it was in before it was demolished. I will see if I can find the vid on Morialta too, thanks.
Kilburn has been the badlands for years, emergency housing, drug dealers , prostitution gangs, feral animals. I see a lot of these blocks sold off to developers and new builds establishing. See what happens.
Lets hope it can improve. Being so close to the CBD you'd think surely within the next 10 years it can be rejuvenated 🤞🏻. Time will tell. Thank you for your comment mate.
Yeah I totally hear you. I think as kids we all thought of the places which are rough like that but as adults we see it as sad and not how life should be lived. Let's hope the people here get some improvements made 🙏🏼
This is appalling from the government allowing this to happen. When a lot of Australian are living on the streets especially families that could have this. Why build more homes when you could bulldoze these down and rebuild. Even if it’s privately owned the council should be on the owner! 😢
It is a shame Julie and you are spot on there. I really hope the renewal will bring some quality back for the residents of the street and area. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
@DrewsAdventuresGo I also live in the Adelaide North suburbs, and I've seen so many of the old housing trust homes pertickly in the Salisbury north area the gardens are so over grown and boarded up ready for demolition. These housing trust homes could have been fixed up for tenants that desperately need a roof over their heads it doesn't make any sense at all.
When I was in highschool, probably year 9 around 2006-7, me and few other reckless youths would explore abandoned houses in Salisbury North. There was a street behind my house with three or four on them. One of them we went into had Pr0n posters and magazines scatered all over the floor, stuck up all over he walls. It was like a 2000's gooner hole🤣 It was pretty freaky in there in more ways than one. That was the last time I ever explored an abandoned house.
Lauren, that sounds very interesting 🤔 😂. I have filmed one abandoned home here on my channel a bit back that had a very peculiar poster on the wall and a "wet cat" VHS tape 😂 . Thank you for sharing that story aha
I think it's hard to work out how it can be so close to the city but yet it seems to have a lot of problems. Please feel free to share some stories mate. Thank you for your comment
Thank you mate and they are interesting and I guess this street unfortunately had a lot of issues but hopefully the new homes that go in are better and create better community spirit hey 🤞🏻
So last week I played a drinking game where I had a shot every time I heard "yeah". I've only just got out of hospital and the doctors tell me I done irreversible damage to my liver.
If they knocked down the old demolished houses, and rebuilt on them, they would be able to fit "2" small homes in each block, because those old blocks of land are a massive area... quite a waste just sitting there... And it would "fix" the problem with the demolished homes being used for gatherings, drugs, drinking etc... Clean the area up Housing SA, and address this homeless shortage... You have to start somewhere... Restore your homes for your community, so you Restore the community's hope, trust and faith in you, that you care. I was homeless in 2018, and stayed without a home for 3 years, waiting for help on category 1... It's stripes you of your respect in the community and amongst family. No one should be without security - a roof over their head, a place to call home, an address they can identify as their place of home.
You said it very well Katarina. Housing should be a human right but some people may need help to keep a place neat and tidy and maybe break generational cycles? I really appreciate you sharing your story and I hope life gives you every opportunity to prosper.
Its a shame some people dont appreciate public housing dont look after them anymore no pride to keep lawn tidy i lived in public housing as a child but everyone tried to keep their places nice and were grateful
This is very true, Gilly. I wish that there was some way to encourage folks to keep up with the basics of home maintenance. It would be good for them themselves plus their neighbours and communities.
You're welcome and it's just crazy to think these streets exist in our communities and I only showed them to bring some highlight hopefully to get change for the good folks trying to live and work in the area. It's sad to see things such to a blighted stage. Thank you for sharing mate
@DrewsAdventuresGo it always had a bad reputation but I lived there for 20+ years and never had any problems really everyone knew their neighbours and there was a sense of community.
@jsmith363 it is sad how much it's changed. I wonder what has been the cause of that breakdown of society? Maybe we are all too rushed and too distracted these days?
My son's uncle on his dads side lives on Brunswick St which is the next one over that runs parallel. He's had his fair share of people bringing problems to him. He's had to fight people off for the 30 yrs he's been there
I can only imagine it'd be a spot to keep your eyes and ears open. You probably notice my overall nervousness when we were there touring. Felt like you needed your head on a swivel aha. Cheers for sharing your family's experience there.
I've got another suburb for you to visit. Where they're redeveloping. Theres an elderly lady and daughter living next door to a house worse than this house. Their roof needs fixing and they won't fix it. Ppl coming and going through the attached house at all times for months now and house isnt boarded up.
Yes please send me an email Helen and if you don't mind appearing in the video to tell the story or know someone who will tell the story of it I'd appreciate that too. My email is in my bio. Thank you kindly
I don’t live far from there - used to live near on Guildford ave, when I saw the start I thought 💭 Kilburn - but I now live still not far but up near Sefton plaza. Keep the cool videos coming
Thank you mate and it sounds like you know the areas there really well. My grandparents (now deceased) lived in Enfield just near Sefton Plaza. I will do re more videos and thanks again
It's so sad. I find many of them around Adelaide. Some are just abandoned and some are being demolished for multiple new homes but it's not right we are in a wealthy country, yet so many folks are left behind and fall through the gaps big time and are left homeless. It's an absolute travesty.
Scrapping does seem a big thing in almost all abandoned places I've been to and dumping then of other stuff. The sheer wastage of a potentially decent home by all the damage is hard to see.
Thank you Tracie. It was a tad scary at first cos we had no idea who may have been lurking but the kind fellow who took us around was great 😀. Hope you're keeping well 🤗😍
Absolutely it is a very strange area especially at night. When I went at night I saw a car pull up and whoever was inside just sat for like 5 minutes while someone came to their window and then they drove off. Definitely Adelaide's scarier side here Geoffrey, for sure. Thank you so much too my friend and hope you're keeping well 🤗😍
These houses are old housing trust homes, the people who lived there have been relocated to new houses. These are to be demolished and new homes built! It happens all over Adelaide, Angle Park , Warradale, Marion and many more suburbs. It is just the government trying to make the state better. This just shows how some of the people treated some of their homes.
I tend to agree. Taking forever to clean up these areas and it shouldn't take so long. A bit like roadworks too in SA. Compared to Melbourne & Vic (where I've spent some time) we take a long, long time to get things done in SA.
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING... INVESTIGATE PROSECUTE... LOCKEM ALL UP... DREW ITS YOUR BIT TO SUPPORT YOUR VIEWERS WHO IM SURE ALL SAY... DO SOMETHING M8... U can do it... we are all with you...PLEASE GIVE US YOUR UPDATE STORY ASAP...
I will do my absolute best Johny to give an update in summer and it is a sad looking area with many stories by all accounts of problems in the street and surrounding streets.
The government has systematically sold off the Housing Trust to private enterprise. They then tend sell it to land developers. Look at Mansfield Park and Angle Park completely unrecognisable. So much for Labor looking after battlers.
I'll have to check that out mate and it sounds interesting. The more pressure we put on authorities the better to get these streets sorted out, hopefully 🙏🏼
Yeah it's disappointing it's taken ages for the area to get much redevelopment or rehabilitation happening. I think the man was saying council could act on some, not all, of the aesthetic aspects and noise complaints, perhaps?
It sure is, Luke. I think they're in the process of demolishing a lot of them but how long the whole process will take is anyone's guess plus that one I toured through is privately owned apparently. Seems the owners have left it to rot
Grew up in the area basically my whole life. You realise this happens everywhere in Adelaide right, nowhere near the 'worst street' by far in the kilburn area let alone Adelaide 😂 With so many homeless people and families on the streets it's gross that people can make profit off of their misfortune instead of helping or contacting the appropriate people to get these houses in living order or knock them down so there's no way for people to complain and profit off people who genuinely might need help. Sad video but people contact people to deal with the situation.
Yes that seems a common thread through many of the comments Ben and Julia. It's a truly sad state of affairs when they can't do some temporary fixes to make these places liveable so as to help folks who are homeless. We need to get the pressure on all levels of government. Thank you for your comment.
I had a big family housing trust home in SA and asked for an emergency transfer to another place which would be closer for me to medical specialists etc. I also asked for the transfer as I no longer needed the big SA housing trust home as my kids left home over 20 years ago so it was only me left in it so I thought a family my need the house I was in. Anyway, they gave me my transfer (after THREE years) but gave my previous big family home with the large back yard to a SINGLE guy. I was shocked seeing so many families are needing SA Housing homes.
@DrewsAdventuresGo Yeah, you'd be surprised, mate. Adelaide has had an especially dark past and they are many remnants that can be found today. I've driven past two of them. One even had a massive fence covering the entire property because of how high profile the case was. I'd never seen a fence that big constructed quite like that in that kind of suburb layout. It's understand given what happened and the media frenzy that followed.
That sounds pretty sketchy, for sure, Troy. I often heard of things as a kid about Adelaide and had to learn from books, documentaries etc about the strange and downright nasty stuff that has happened in SA.
Tell everyone about the Snowtown murders and John Bunting... He lived in a house like those & a movie was even made, as you probably already know Drew 😊
You're right Simon. Some of the properties they lived in have been demolished but I believe there is 1 or 2 around in Davoren Park(?) and Murray Bridge but they're actively owned as I understand.
Yeah that area is still rough in places, for sure. Thank you for watching. I have another video here too of some shops that are almost fully abandoned in Elizabeth.
This is sickening 😢 I know of so many people living from couch to couch waiting years for a home and these are sitting here wasted. I had no idea
Great video ❤ I’ll be subbing for more
Thank you Sarah and you're welcome and great to have you on the channel. I'll be bringing more light to some of the other areas across Adelaide and beyond. I think without pressure nothing improves with these areas and people get forgotten about which is the worst. Cheers again

@sarahk4047 thank you Sarah and glad to have you here 🤗
Yeah because the tenants trash them thinking houses grow on trees

Thank you for sharing your story Cynthia and I hope progress keeps being made up there too 😀

Salisbury north is awful but 🤦♀️
with my little family facing homelessness myself an all these homeless families, this is completely insane!! a complete disgrace, this needs to get shared far n wide!!
I hope you and your family can find a safe place to call home, Simone. There really does need to be more pressure and exposure of these places so people aren't forgotten. The mainstream media just doesn't cover these streets enough and the deeper issues at play are ignored by all tiers and colours of government. Stay safe and well

@@PaulVanselow Not all -- Some parts are called Bogan-ville.

I grew up in one.
I think they were once quite nice Susan.
wogs build this style of of houses in the 80s wont see many more of these in next 20 years
It's funny seeing people call them old when they're at least 30 years newer than the ones we grew up in.
I appreciate you sharing your story. .
This is what Smithfield Plains looked like 15 years ago. We lived on Vincent Rd and only 3 houses were left standing in 2011 when we moved.
It's the same don't worry lol

It all starts at the exact same place for the older housing trust homes, a cracked roof tile or two. Then after years of the maintained being concentrated on the inside, the roof framing is rotted away too much for the housing trust to bother repairing. Then the ceiling eventually collapsed in a room.
I've lived in similar houses in Kilburn, back in 2003... Most have been pulled down for brand new houses now... I used to run the Squatters Union back in the 70s and 80s 😊

Thank you for watching Frank and I hope you're keeping well mate 🤗

maybe they'll demolish and put up a 20 story appartment block for refugies
I guess we'll see. Down the road a fair bit were some newer homes but no idea who resides in, or owns them, hey. Australia has always been a nation of immigration I suppose.
They'd probably spell better than you can
I think a 20 story apartment block made for low income earners would be a far better solution to the homeless problem than just fixing 4 or 5 housing trust flats??

I have just discovered your channel.

The Australian and South Australian government need to do better. I know this has been said countless times but the more it's expressed maybe something will be done. So many people and families with children facing homelessness and home's like this stand like this.
As a kid I made fun of that area, we called it a ghetto 🤦🏽♀️ I never knew this is what it was like, how sad.
YOU KNOW U ALL ARE ACTUALLY TRESSPASING... CAREFULL M8... SOME LADY CALLED KAREN WHO USED TO BE CALLED BARRY WILL BE ONTO U...
Yeah mate don't worry I'm always cautious but they're all abandoned 💯
absolutely disappointing how some of these homes are been badly vandalized or boarded up.
It sure is, Dane. I often think how can we let places get to such a state of disrepair and so forgotten about.
I should have known better, Kilburn is a horrible area to live in, we hate going there to our friends house!
All good mate. Yeah it can be a bit rough unfortunately
That is an absolute disgrace. Rspecially with the housing crisis we have at the moment.
So true Melinda. It's a whole lot of neglect and it shouldn't be happening 😥
I lived on churchill Rd not long ago. Its a hard place to live and I got so,e stories to tell about it.
I think it's hard to work out how it can be so close to the city but yet it seems to have a lot of problems. Please feel free to share some stories mate. Thank you for your comment
places like these are so cool, disappointing how that get demolished... :/
Thank you mate and they are interesting and I guess this street unfortunately had a lot of issues but hopefully the new homes that go in are better and create better community spirit hey 🤞🏻
I remember kilburn in the 80s 90s was pretty bad back then still got mates who still live there
It seems so and I wonder why it is hey? Thank you for your comment
So last week I played a drinking game where I had a shot every time I heard "yeah". I've only just got out of hospital and the doctors tell me I done irreversible damage to my liver.
😂 that is classic
Also thanks for doing this video obviously my house was joint to the first house you showed it was definitely shocking to see the inside.
Obviously the Port Adelaide/Enfield council would rather fine people for leaving there bin out than get owners to clean up rubbish houses.
It seems that way Steve in recent times. It's a strange world we are living in sometimes.
@DrewsAdventuresGo Ah yeah, you can't help but feel you need to def keep on your toes there
Those houses bring a lot of memories from a kid
I can imagine you'd have some great stories mate
I've got another suburb for you to visit. Where they're redeveloping.
Theres an elderly lady and daughter living next door to a house worse than this house. Their roof needs fixing and they won't fix it. Ppl coming and going through the attached house at all times for months now and house isnt boarded up.
Yes please send me an email Helen and if you don't mind appearing in the video to tell the story or know someone who will tell the story of it I'd appreciate that too. My email is in my bio. Thank you kindly
Like 226 👍 Hey Drew I'm here ❤ Worst street? Let me see and decide 😅
Wow wow wow 😮
Aha yes thank you Gloria for commenting and liking the video. I did overuse that word so much ugh 😂. Hope you and your family are well my friend 🤗
There are 10000 vacant houses in Adelaide, according to a recent Sunday Mail article. Yet people are still homeless...
It's so sad. I find many of them around Adelaide. Some are just abandoned and some are being demolished for multiple new homes but it's not right we are in a wealthy country, yet so many folks are left behind and fall through the gaps big time and are left homeless. It's an absolute travesty.
Like tornado got hit here lol 😅! Love the vegetation outside 🍃🍃
So true my friend aha. The trees are quite nice - all eucalyptus along that street 😍 🌳. Thank you for watching Clinton 💯
People strip the houses and all the bums dump their rubbish on the properties
Scrapping does seem a big thing in almost all abandoned places I've been to and dumping then of other stuff. The sheer wastage of a potentially decent home by all the damage is hard to see.
well done Drew, ❤❤
Thank you Tracie. It was a tad scary at first cos we had no idea who may have been lurking but the kind fellow who took us around was great 😀. Hope you're keeping well 🤗😍
@@DrewsAdventuresGo 👍👍🤣🤣
They might be Rough , But the land is worth 500K+
Yeah true indeed
I used to live around the corner basically near the Reepham hotel I found it alright was pretty cozy
Yeah I think some areas are probably fine then the next street over is a real problem. Cheers for sharing your experience mate.
The Reepham hotel is heaps far away from this place.
Yeah it is a bit hey Matt but I guess it's sorta same suburb ?
Wow the music is so creepy. Love the video the energy would be so toxic around there
Absolutely it is a very strange area especially at night. When I went at night I saw a car pull up and whoever was inside just sat for like 5 minutes while someone came to their window and then they drove off. Definitely Adelaide's scarier side here Geoffrey, for sure. Thank you so much too my friend and hope you're keeping well 🤗😍
I seen quite a few VHS tapes in the first house,
I wonder what's on them?
😵!!
Stayin tuned! 👍🤠 🇺🇸
I totally agree John. I think some would be "home movies" indeed 😳 🤔 . Thank you so much my friend and I hope you're keeping well? 😍
@@DrewsAdventuresGo
I'm doin better than pre-November 5th.
😉
Aha oh fair enough 😋
These houses are old housing trust homes, the people who lived there have been relocated to new houses. These are to be demolished and new homes built! It happens all over Adelaide, Angle Park , Warradale, Marion and many more suburbs. It is just the government trying to make the state better. This just shows how some of the people treated some of their homes.
Let's hope the areas improve, Rosemarie 🤞🏻. Thank you for your comment 😀
This is only up the road from where i live ☹ Shame on SAHA. The only thing they're good at is wasting tax payers money and lying. Bunch of lazy POS's!
I tend to agree. Taking forever to clean up these areas and it shouldn't take so long. A bit like roadworks too in SA. Compared to Melbourne & Vic (where I've spent some time) we take a long, long time to get things done in SA.
@@DrewsAdventuresGo SA Great the backwards state 😂
With coke snorting MP's it's really not surprising that things are the way they are.
Fun fact I've had my car broken into 2x around the corner 😅 from there.
Oh not good and sorry to hear that. I kept my car close to where we explored on this day.
Amazing share 🎉
Thank you 😊
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING...
This is probably quite true. I think the 90s Labor Party was better than today's Labor Party. It's sad to see.
Those art deco bathroom tiles are worth a mint. Just saying, haha. 🍀
Truee indeed mate. All gone now I believe
😧 and there's a housing crisis at the moment ! Wtf ? 😳
Precisely Matthew. Sad state of affairs the housing issues in Australia, at present.
Mainwaring cres daveron park is up there
I'll have to check that out mate and it sounds interesting. The more pressure we put on authorities the better to get these streets sorted out, hopefully 🙏🏼
@DrewsAdventuresGo agreed 👍
@DrewsAdventuresGo I know of several others but that ones a good example
Thank you Irlam mate
I used to live at No32
Great share 🎉
Thank you 😊
Take a SHOT everytime he says "YeaH"
Sold by Housing Trust - redevelopment area for many many years. What is some of the reasons that the Local Council have done anything???
Yeah it's disappointing it's taken ages for the area to get much redevelopment or rehabilitation happening. I think the man was saying council could act on some, not all, of the aesthetic aspects and noise complaints, perhaps?
Very sad state to see. Especially with today’s economic climate
It sure is, Luke. I think they're in the process of demolishing a lot of them but how long the whole process will take is anyone's guess plus that one I toured through is privately owned apparently. Seems the owners have left it to rot
Why has the government allowed this to happen 😢
It's really sad to see, Anne. Like surely they could clean up these places a bit quicker than they have in some cases 🤔.
Grew up in the area basically my whole life. You realise this happens everywhere in Adelaide right, nowhere near the 'worst street' by far in the kilburn area let alone Adelaide 😂
With so many homeless people and families on the streets it's gross that people can make profit off of their misfortune instead of helping or contacting the appropriate people to get these houses in living order or knock them down so there's no way for people to complain and profit off people who genuinely might need help.
Sad video but people contact people to deal with the situation.
That's true, sadly. I think we are in for some nasty economics more than they are already. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 😊
All the housing homes are in good working order still
I'm no expert but others have said these homes have structural issues. I would think they'd still be liveable, however. Thank you for your comment
Lol and Housing SA say they have no housing available. South Australian government is a joke
Would love to do one of these Adelaide investigations discoveries with you and your team.. I’m an Adelaide lifer, hit me up if I can do a ride along!
G'day Scott and yes sure hit me up on my email and we will try make a collaborative happen 🤞🏻
Wow.....yeah 🙂
Aha indeed Bek. I was nervous unfortunately
Kilburn? Daveron park?
Kilburn here Vicki
At least they got some where to live
Yeah wow! i live the next suburb over. Its nothing like this..
Prospect? It is a world of difference, indeed.
Fuck yeah..kilburn 5084..place aint dangerous...lived here forever..raised my kids here..had more trouble working at burnside than I ever did here..
That's fair mate for sure. I think a place is what you make of it
A resident Evil level in my very own city might go for a drive by with my windows up of course.
Oh definitely and let me know if you do a video mate. I think a lot of us aren't aware of what is going on in our own city and state. Cheers
Elizabeth by any chance? Adelaide isn't THAT bad, not everywhere anyway 😮 I'm trying to work out what area ur talking about 😢
G'day Michael. This is a street in Kilburn in Adelaide's inner northern suburbs mate. Sorry if it was unclear 🙏🏼
Elizabeth is probably the roughest suburb I ever came across travelling through Adelaide
Yeah that area is still rough in places, for sure. Thank you for watching. I have another video here too of some shops that are almost fully abandoned in Elizabeth.
@@DrewsAdventuresGo Thanks mate ill check it out, good videos
@Mulley85 thank you and I plan on making plenty more
Lived in the area for a good 10 plus years and i can confirm its rough
Amazingly Elizabeth was originally planned to be quite a prestigious place to live, named after the Queen herself.
