It's so typical of DCS to not have the flak guns work at least initially- that's the one type of AAA this type of blind fire would not only be the most useful for, but also was actual doctrine for in some cases. Ah well, I'm sure it will get fixed, another one of those Just DCS Things™
This is really cool. I threw together a quick test mission, and it looks awesome. I also love that if you zoom out and watch the tracers shoot up and past your camera, you can hear them all fly by.
For WW2 scenarios, it would be cool to set a trigger zone that if you fly into a given box, that a battery unloads and covers and area around it (such as a key train station or airfield)
One of the cool things i remember from a couple older sims ( il-2 Pacific fighters and B-17 mighty 8th) Was that the Flak would form a block wall in front of your flight and wait for you to fly into it, then start tracking quite an imposing sight!
thanks for this video. made a mission for our group that featured an air barrage and it looked awesome. i made the mistake of using a normal adv option using the start and stop condition. used a flag on/off with part of coalition in zone. that trigger didnt work well. this video saved it.
I thought this was a lot cooler than it actually was from the thumbnail. They don't seem to actually try to shoot near a plane. So much as shoot in the area you told them to. Even at that, the radius of the target area seems to be pointless because it looks to me they just shoot right in the center. So this is really only useful for cinematic purposes. I wanted to see if I could put this on an airfield for a PvE mission to give just a different type of threat. Apparently this isn't for that.
Super useful Redkite, thanks. This presumably just makes the units blindfire upwards, how do you make some of them actually engage you rather than just putting on a light show?
Well... the S-60 is radar guided and the radar (SON-9) is in-game... but it doesn't seem to be working for the time being...or at least I haven't figured it out yet
@@RedKiteRender I mean... I got whatever everyone else has... It gives out an "A" RWR nail, but I don't see it moving its radar or helping the S-60 in any way, can't guide at night either. (Same group)
@@RedKiteRender Bruh... maybe that's it. I do have it, but I've barely used it or looked in it at all. Huh... why would they even have that in, as there is no other asset in that mod, which would benefit from it... at least to my knowledge A quick check later.... Yes, seems like you are correct. Sad noises
I think you can create multiple fire at point tasks as triggered actions, and activate them as needed by triggers, either by player actions, or automatically, for instance, with timed flags or something.
I don't get it, this is what they are spending time developing? This could just as easily been implemented as an area with lighting effects to simulate barage fire, no need to waste time putting AAA on the ground.
@@nynphose There's no shortage of legitimate criticism, this is simply nitpicking. Although there are legitimate reasons to "fake" barrages with effects some people may want the actual simulation, that is the shells are actually being fired and the guns/crews can get taken out.
Creating missions is an amazing artform. I'm so glad I found this channel filled with inspirational tips and ideas.

The German 20mm's work in barrage mode. and their tracers are green. The quad green tracers look amazing mixed in with the 23's.

Very fun to set up a more scenic 'battle' with automatic firing vehicles firing over eachother, should make it more scenic from the air.
Also can't wait for the heavier Flak 88 barrages, to properly defense blanket a target area
Well done, nice detail on the use of unit triggers. Thanks for sharing.
Nice one. Would be nice to have the AI shoot from one point to another rather than in a straight line like that per volley.
Yeah that'd be nice!
And to think the last time I created a AAA barrage it took a hundred explosion triggers and hand placed zones!
As always - great video with great explanations and descriptors. Awesome e stuff, man.
Your tutorials are excellent.

I was waiting for this to recreate the baqdad scene for over year ! now I can do that :D Seems if 9line request something we can get it faster !
I was thinking of a iraq type look
@@sam8742 same, baghdad is the capital of iraq 🇮🇶
Many good uses for this
This update is seriously awesome. If only I wasn’t an idiot and broke my computer lol
I'm doing everything you're doing but the AI always starts shooting at me before I get to the trigger zone. What do I do?
that's cool man, Im' on stable but I don't mind, I can wait. can ships do that as well?
they just start shooting at me

You're sure you are not using the HighDigitSAMs mod? it adds a SON-9 using the silkworm radar's model.

Is it possible to use this trigger method to silence the AAA when you exit the trigger zone or is it best to use flags for that?
Should work fine in either case.
does that work with missiles/rockets ?
It's "Baghdad time"
thats awsome
can you create more than one fire at point for a single group?

How does the copy paste work in ME?
Ctrl C ctrl V
Does the radius really matter?
Future proofing, they 'should' but don't at the moment.
how much of a FPS hit does this cause?
Depends how thick you lay out the barrage, but not that much.
2.7 crashes all the time

this is easier to develop than having to code and model special effects
