HEAVY HAUL TV: What do Pilot Cars do?

- Pilot or escort cars often accompany trucks hauling oversize and/or overweight loads. This requirement will be set forth in the Trip Oversize Permit issued to the trucker. In my case, I needed 1 escort car to help me detour via a 2-lane highway in PA. My 11'2" wide load was prohibited from a 7 mile stretch on I-79 north of MM7 in Pennsylvania. Enjoy!
Trucking in a 2015 black Mack CXU-613 4-axle truck and pulling a 2014 55-ton Kaufman RGN trailer.
Well that detour road was scary so narrow that is why you had a pilot driver ahead it was a good idea , take care Sergei !
Nice job and good video. It's nice to hear a pilot car driver doing a good job and keeping a good distance ahead of you.
Stay safe and give Larry a thumbs up for me.
Thumbs up for the pilot driver also,Great video
Oh man, those roads look mighty fun for a small sports car.
Beautiful scenery & homes! I really enjoy your expertise in making such clear videos, as well as learning about a trucker's work. You explain things so very well. My husband has repaired the big trucks for almost 40 years, got me watching your videos too.
Seems that you were all clear Sergei, good video..
Great driving, thanks for the trip through the back roads of Pennsylvania, haven been there in years, brings back old souvenirs.
P.S That area is known for it's deer hunting, and wild turkey hunting.
Have a great trip,
Paul
What a trip / detour! Thought for a moment you were in Missouri when you delivered that grape harvesting machine. Pilot-car was a big help for safety. Thanks for sharing your Sat. adventure. Take care.
Thank you Sergei!! I had an Aunt that did just that after she retired from trucking with International Transport she enjoyed it a lot :-)
I love how they route you on a road with a 10 ton weight limit. I think they route oversize loads through crazy routes just to mess with you. I did an easy 9'6" wide a few weeks ago and they get plain stupid on the routing. Pennsylvania though has some real white knuckle routes. Another nice vid, see ya out there, rolling to Denver on Monday.
Nice job, looks like the Mack is performing very well for you. Really appreciate you making these videos, showing everyone all the hassles we have to deal with on a daily basis, ever changing weather, mototist, crazy detours. Your putting a lot of drivers lives on video, its like watching myself thru your lense because there are alot of us out here going thru this daily, we just dont video it. But thank you for doing it for us.
Thanks Sergei, great video, Your life immortalized. Drive safe.
Interesting video. Well done and lovely detour scenery.
The pilot service I thought were really helpful on that tricky road
Dan Whiteford yeah, there were lots of curves where I had to stay in the middle but couldn't see far enough ahead. without the pilot car i might have had problems avoiding oncoming traffic. his job was to warn me on the CB and also flag down cars coming from the opposite side. 5 minutes into this ride i knew my oversize PA permit said I needed the escort car!
Enjoyed the video. The pilot was very professional I thought.
There are amazing landscapes there, almost like at our Ural mountains near Bashkiriya :) I used to drive along M5 highway so many times, even in winters...
Tricky driving, but some beautiful countryside. Thanks, Sergei.
I just got myself a Go Pro cam and looking forward to putting into my van and taking people around the flathead lake...just a beginner!! Inspired by your videos!! Thanks
Just don't point it at something unless you are ready to shoot ;)
I hear u on that one...I am just starting out and I am looking forward to recording some miracles actually so lol
Blessed 2BA Blessing i had fun with the belt clip - you can hook up the GoPro on the belt and it catches dome really unusual angles. I did a video where I was shooting a video inside a coffee shop!
Sergei that made me laugh!! and sort of creeped me out a bit LOL u had a Go Pro on your belt in the coffee shop? what were u tying to catch? ;lol
well, i can tell right away you missed a couple of videos on my channel. here's your homework: ruclips.net/video/yh82kLA9G8E/видео.html. we'll do a written test after ....
Pennsylvania has such of nice country side. I bet you enjoyed it more than the grey highways.
Wow, what a winding country road they sent you on. "All Clear"...10-4
main highway and for the most part the only road going from north to south in Norway are 2 lanes like that. then 8% grades makes it fun in the winters hehe. no need for cc :)
Always keep a list of good pilot service phone numbers. For future reference.
I have the Dispatch. They take care of all permits and escorts.
Ah gotcha.
I never knew you had a video on this.
That looked like fun Sergei.like B.C truckin.
All clear! Good video. I am a pilot car driver. One question I ask the driver. Do you want chatter or only when there is an issue or an up coming issue? Some drivers want a lot if chatter. In fact, a few drivers want to carry on a conversation, which I frown upon because I like to concentrate on the load and my driving.
ALL CLEAR!! Good little video. How do I get a job talking on the CB and being paid for it?
Ian Duff sorry. all positions taken. we have no vacancies at this time.
Ian Duff take a pilot car certification class.
Ian Duff buy all the pilot car equipment then look for a pilot car company. after you get certified you still won't know sh*t.it just makes you to go to different states.there are still jobs my boss won't send me on,ie,high pole, night moves, etc.but you gotta start somewhere
You can get certified, Utah is the best certification out there, there are a few others, you must carry a commercial million dollar policy, have a vehichle to set up with no less then a 110' wheelbase. Absolutely no Prius, must be good looking dependable vehichle.
@@williamsmith8041 yes got yea there always learning
They were talkin about street outlaws. That show is my shit!!
Hi Sergei, both vidos excellent. Climatically, west virginia mountains are are the North. IMMENSE WEATHER DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEST VIRGNIA IN WINTER AND EASTERN PART OF THE STATE OFV VIRGNIA
Sergei!
This was an awesome video of how a Pilot car can help an oversize load down twisting roads.
The pilot was very helpful...
I suggest you change this video's name to something more complementary.
Just a suggestion.
SBF
You sure, taking some hilly out back roads in PA. One of the most hills in the state. I think. Be safe out their doing that long travel to the West coast.
is it clear???
I haul oversize too... that pilot driver would drive me crazy... just tell me when it's not all clear.. and stop traffic when needed.. otherwise SHUT Up dude
Good Job Sergei, you make it look so easy, you're a real professional.
keep up the good work.
What's with the (ALL CLEAR)? I love Pennsylvania
I know why now It seams like your driving faster... it's the wide angle lens on the camera that give the impression your driving faster but in fact your not...
I had to pick up a papago 60 and test it out for my self.
When you change it from wide angle to a normal angle it does not make the side of the road look like they are going faster then the full wide angle.
I should of known that when I installed security for a year and came across the same problem one time before on a B&E video.
Thanks for explaining that!
That detour you were on the roads are not that narrow that is common out in parts of British Columbia.
its does look like Ukraine lol nice video once again driver sergei
Great video very educational as always.
On the previous video where you lost traction on that hill did you lift the third axel and lock the drive axels to get moving again?
Stay safe.
Nice
What was up with the "10 ton weight limit" Both ways? Seems rather weird for a 100k plus load.
bringjeffthehorizon i have no idea. i double checked the permit twice and talked to the pilot guy. he guided another truck the same way and that guy was just under 80K lb. there were no bridges on that road. i guess the DOT decided to use this road to help detour truck from the construction on that portion of I-79. what was i supposed to do? i had a permit with a detailed route!
I was an escort for about a year and now in a driver...and that escort talks to MUCH
I agree with will bill but if i were the truck driver i would tell him how to do it because that guy would drive me nuts
Do you have a link for the amber lights?
when you are in canada it is imperial gallon it s little bigger gallon than us gallon
Luc Bouchard Yes, a imperial gallon is about 20 percent larger than a US gallon. One of the reasons why Canadian gasoline or diesel is more expensive in Canada than a US gallon is in the US.
There is no such thing as imperial gallon. Truck stops in Canada sell fuel by LITERS. Truck stops in USA sell fuel by GALLONS. 'Imperial gallons' are only used by people who are ashamed of their poor fuel mileage and try to make the MPG number higher
why are they having you run on these narrow roads and not the interstate?????
Steven Herrera construction on the freeway ...can't go in with this wide load, or a lot of innocent construction people might die ...
***** can't have that......nonono would not be a good thing....
Is it just me or are you driving really fast for them blind turns?
IT'S ALL CLEAR!
Edward Harold Butler was driving under the speed limit of 40 MPH.
Torsee lol that was gonna be my reply, guess he didn't hear the all clear several times coming from the escort
I don't think he was didn't seem to be going fast at all
Okay you're right lol
What was he hauling?
how did the pilot car get a contact or hire with you. I've been watching these videos
like getting in the biz
they mostly work through brokers (middlemen). most phone numbers you'll call in a pilot car directory are BROKERS, not actual drivers.
***** is your truck automatic or standard shift?
*****
Kona138 I have an 18 Speed Manual non-synchronized Eaton transmission. It's very popular with heavy haulers in North America, but recently people started using automatics in heavy haul too.
How is the power in that truck with these oversize loads?
Have to do lots of shifting on hills. The truck flies on level terrain.
***** I drive a mack doing flatbed, I'm not a fan of them at all. When my company assigned me to mine it was a 2012 and the fuel injectors went out fairly quickly. The power sucks too. Driver comfortability isn't there either.
bringjeffthehorizon mine is pretty comfortable but i have 1860 torque (505C+ MP8) and sometimes that's not enough.
just dont get in my yard even when making turns
Cool video! If you are interested in joining one of the industry’s best, Hansen & Adkins is looking for professionals like you in our family. Check out our website to see the job listings!
narrow ass road fer sure.
Sorry but sorry he talks way too much and i would have any cars coming towards u off the side of road way befor you got to them i çould only watch this video for 2 min that front pilot made me nuts
So is that what you want in a pilot car, always on the radio like that?
