Well the weather really changed from one state to the other , yes when you were going up that big hill was pretty scary I was wondering if you were going to spin out or not , just be very careful and going down that big slope with the drop off on the one side was make me nervous .
Don't ya just love all the armchare truckers, its a little bit different story, when its you out their in a miny blizzard, and their sitting in a nice warm house, looking at a computer screen.
Learned that same lesson with lift axle when my Dad and I were hauling cattle across South Dakota after a snow storm. Lifting that axle gave much better traction to drives.
Put the axle in the air when it looses traction, the weight that is on the lift axle will then be on just the drive axles, helping to increase traction
Great video of driving in difficult conditions Sergei. Can you raise your lift axle partially or only fully up or down? By lifting the axle = more weight on the steering and traction wheels but you also have to cope with the DOT regs!
Those four wheelers were really flying for the conditions. What was the buzzer for? Kind of annoying. We had snow today here in PA but it didn't stick to the roads. Roll on summer!
I love the Mack, but I hate that buzzer. It seems to be programmed to go off at times when you need to concentrate and think through problems. The last thing you need at a time like that is a loud, annoying noise in your ear.
Excellent video Sergei, Yes sir, this time of the year, the weather is so unpredictable, you think that you're safe and the next minute you're in the ditch. You have to have nerve of steel and common sense. Good driving, be safe and take care of yourself.
j glesby I don`t know alot about the rules in the US. Would DOT stop you and give you a ticket if you lift the axle to get up a hill? On the trucks i used to drive, that had lift axle the button had 3 positions. Up, down and release pressure with the axle down. I could also lift the front axle on the trailer,
Cato H i have 1 button and 1 knob on the dash: (1) deploy/raise; and (2) adjust pressure. i can have the pusher on the ground and only put 0 PSI on the gauge. this setup is legal where i'm from. needless to say, this was a good lesson. next time on ice i'll know what to do!
Graveltrucking Another option, in addition to lifting, is to have the drive axle on the snow, versus having it on the pavement. The pavement usually has a film of ice, where the snow just off the "black pavement", will provide additional traction.
Be careful, not supposed to be out there with Oversize load with that much snow on the road, check your permit. They will fine you and shut you down if they catch you out there running with snow covering the road.
thomas west what do you think i did? after that hill, i found a parking space and waited till the conditions improved. weather was okay when i was leaving mount nebo wv right before this. you did watch the second part of the video, right? i also called State and Local police to ask if it was to drive again. State Police guy said, 'Sorry I'm in another county. Can't say what the conditions over there are.' Local Police main line had an interesting message greeting all callers, 'Our offices are now closed. Please call during normal business hours!'
Great teaching video Sergei. You figure it out quickly. Be safe. and thank you for posting your adventure in HEAVY TRUCKING.
Got to love all the arm chair truck drivers giving advise.
Have a safe trip Sergei.
Awesome video

Okay
Looks like Spring is getting a late start there. Drive safely.
That is something, how winter can hold on, even in N/E Indiana, we got 4 1/2 inches of snow last Monday, and bye Wednesday it was about gone.

another perfect video,,way 2 go sergel
Hope you have smooth sailing to Canada.

80 in Los Angeles !!!
You should've gone on the side of the road where snow was, so you can have traction because where you were it was just ice !
We've had snow in april before I also live here in West Virgina.
MyDIYturn Now i'm sorry to hear you live in west virginia. go south, young man!
HOLY ####!!!!
Dont know Sergei, but when you have traction on ice or snow don't try to shift to higher gear. Seem to me you lost traction when shifting.
Great video of driving in difficult conditions Sergei. Can you raise your lift axle partially or only fully up or down?

yep end of march thats what it does. first new trailer run baptism by snow. ugh!!
On spot chains would of help you out in a big way if lifting your drop axle do not help. They would get you truck off the road to safety much quicker.

Interaxle lock when turned on starts the buzzer.

No-good!

Sergie, where are you. no videos for almost a week? Wondering what happened here? It's now 4/8/15
Is there traction control on your truck? I drive T660 and it has traction control
Lifting your drop axle would have helped with the traction a long with your 4 axle lock up you would crawl up that hill like nothing.
I watched motor coaches lift their tag axle and they have a ton more traction in the snow when climbing hills.

josh woermke it was hungry.
yeah what made the beeping noise Sergei did you have trouble going up that hill in the snow
josh woermke interaxle lock

Hahaha, love that message...yeah figured you would have checked, just don't want to see you have anymore problems.
