PCSX2 1.7, my specific version changes regularly because I update to whatever the most recent version is since it comes with an auto-updater. It comes with the option to use a "software renderer", which just makes the game look like it does on console instead of what you'd see on other renderers. Dark snow is the most noticeable part, if you've seen dark snow on other videos of this game and Tricky, that's why. It takes quite a lot more power to run the game with this renderer. I use an Xbox One controller that's a few years old now, but it still works fine. Worst part about it is having no padding on the left stick anymore!
we don't know of any significant version differences for this game. it's likely that the in-game timer will only allow finishes on set intervals, like .00, .02, .04... since the framerate is locked to 50. I've never tried PAL, so it's possible this doesn't apply, but either way that version should be just as viable as NTSC
@knifenforks4064 make sure you set your controls to Pro in the settings! you'll be able to turn while holding jump that way, and that's a huge quality-of-life improvement for speedruns expect the early stages to be pretty rough - this game can be absolutely wild at high speeds, and learning how to best control yourself at high speed is going to be the most important thing to learn, and it will take a little while. it's a long journey, so don't be afraid to take breaks here and there! good luck on your runs!
