Some comments: John once said that Paul was a multi-instrumentalist who was always somewhat coy about his bass playing despite that fact that he was the best in the business. John wasn't terribly free about giving compliments to Paul. Also, don't forget that a part of Paul's bouncy bass style were those octave hops. McCartney initially didn't want to play bass but realized that he could control the harmonic direction a song could take with the instrument. Was Paul an influential bass player? I should say so. The fact is, the electric bass guitar didn't register at all among Americans until Paul showed up with that funny violin-looking Hofner; there's a great photo of him showing it to Ed Sullivan. Paul greatly popularized the instrument. Finally, there's a story from my bass teacher that he once briefly listened to a student play and he demanded to know if his teacher didn't tell him to keep his thumb behind the fretboard where it belonged. My fave basslines are in "Hey Bulldog" and "Rain," with honorable mention to "Lady Madonna." And look up the 1976 live version of "Silly Love Songs." Amazing. He sings in one meter and plays bass in another.
Non musicians don’t realize what an incredible bassist Paul is. I suppose that’s natural when one is one of the greatest songwriters ever. We bassists all know though.
McCartney has always had great ears. He took a lot from James Jamerson's bass lines for Motown records even though he didn't know Jamerson's name because the house musicians weren't listed on Motown singles or LPs in the 1960s.
The Beatles were the very first band I ever got into when I was a kid and are still one of my all-time favourites, Paul is such a legendary bassist (not to mention that he also sings while playing) and one of my personal heroes
Paul also frequently incorporated hammer-ons. He was also one of the earliest bassists to use power chords (you hear it on "All I've Got to Do" and "And I Love Her").
I’m a left hander just getting started. Just purchased a left hand Hofner Ignition bass and I am going to play with a pick like Paul. This video is a very good starter resource for me. Thanks so much. I have subscribed to your channel for more tips. And oh by the way…… I’m 75 years old. It’s never too late.
GREAT video!!! Bassists owe him so much!! He was/is a musical genius, a multi-instrumentalist, singer, song writer, drummer, guitar player, piano player! So talented and creative!! Thanks for covering this amazing musician!
Thanks Paul. Valuable insights into the style of a genius. I remember hearing John say that after the Beatles he was surprised that really good musicians he played with took so long to find a groove. Having listened closely to how Paul drove the Beatles so well it is clear to me why.
PAUL DEL BELLO, do another Paul McCartney bass lines using "slash chords" because its often that McCartney uses the 3rd or 5th or 7th as the bottom note instead of the 1 tonic root note.
Great video!! I'm so impressed also listening Paul play some bass power chords... I can't remember anyone doing this before in rock music, do you agree? I'm a big fan of your channel.
Hey mate, you are doing great job. It would be perfect if you make a video about Alex James from Blur. He really deserves to be in Bass Habits. Such an underrated bassist. He has unique approach to make his own groove, which sounds very stylish and unpredictable. Good examples are She's So High, Bang, Pressure on Julian, Oily Water, He Thought Of Cars, End Of A Century and many more.....
Cheers, that was a brilliant video. These videos have been so helpful since I got back into playing last year. Wish I'd had them when I first picked up the bass all those years ago.
Paul McCartney is the only one bass player who sound huge with this little piece of wood usely called hofner violin bass. I guess (and wish) Bill Wyman will be the next episode?
Love your videos, man. Quality content only. Do you think you can make more videos where you teach us more full classic bass songs like you did in the Tom Sawyer video? Thank you for all the hard work, have a great weekend!
I really enjoy this series, and I finally subscribed. I would love to see you do a video for Jared Followill, bassist for Kings of Leon. He is an underrated bassist with lots and lots of melodic, and simple but memorable basslines. Actually, in many Kings of Leon songs the bass carries the song. One of his signature moves is play on the low or mid part of the neck, and then quickly slide up to a few high notes, then back down. I love that he plays all over the neck, and some basslines even stay around the top of the neck. Here are some examples of his work you can check out if you're interested: Razz, True Love Way (how many songs start off with bass harmonics?), Ragoo, Camaro, The Immortals, Pony Up, Family Tree, Crawl, Manhattan, and Supermarket.
There Still Some Bass Players that You have to make vídeos like Neil Murray (Whitesnake) Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot) Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots) Frank Bello (Anthrax) Jeff Pilson (Dokken) Sean Yseaut (White Zombie) Felipe Andreoli (Angra) Lee Rocker (Stray Cats) Markus Grosskopf (Helloween).
People like to shit on him because he's more known for his voice and songwriting ability. But Paul is great on bass too. He has a thing for creating very happy bouncy grooves with very tasty melodic hooks. No, he can't shred. But he fully understands role of bassist in the band and if he did shred the shit on those beatles records, it would sound like crap. Less is more folks! (Unless you are Yngwie)
Try playing the bass line to I Saw Her Standing There...while also singing...while also putting on a show...without looking at the fretboard...go ahead, try it! (Warning...you will fail!)
Hi Paul. I do highly admire your skills with bass. Just wondering, why tell peoples how to sound like someone else instead of telling them ways how to "manipulate" gear so they find their own sound. Though, im old fat fart, so maybe im missing some point here. Anyway, you rock man.
That's exactly the point of these videos. To break down different styles so you might find something that suits you and incorporate it into your style. Peace ✌️
Terrific content Got into the Beatles to impress a girl Got out of the Beatles to impress a girl In retrospect, Paul’s pretty solid on the bass Congratulations on 50!
The best way to sound like Paul, " Get out of my house bitch , I don't care if I was the one cheating , just get out and I'm keeping that prosthetic leg I paid for "

@HMan-zu6bfit’s up to us older guys to correct the ignorance of the young.
As a lefty bass player, I'm happy to finally see THIS episode.
Same :)

He must have learnt his name at some point because Paul has named James Jamerson as a massive influence on his playing.
@@jaydenwhitlen1489 Haha right? I’ve heard Paul mention him quite a bit when talking about what influenced his bass playing in the Beatles.
The Beatles were the very first band I ever got into when I was a kid and are still one of my all-time favourites, Paul is such a legendary bassist (not to mention that he also sings while playing) and one of my personal heroes
Nowhere Man, Rain, I Want You, Hey Bulldog, Getting Better, etc. So many cool basslines this guy gifted us

Great job I will just add that Rain is my favourite Paul bass line.
Paul really put the rhythm in music, especially "I saw her standing there". And many others.
PAUL DEL BELLO, do another Paul McCartney bass lines using "slash chords" because its often that McCartney uses the 3rd or 5th or 7th as the bottom note instead of the 1 tonic root note.
One of my all time favorite bass players. An essential bass player that I recommend every bass player to study and learn from, beginner to advanced.
This video iZ great! I've always felt that Paul iZ an awesome bass player 🎸
Something bassline is on another level

Paul has fun bass lines and was his bass melodies made it the lead instrument to the songs
Paul McCartney is the only one bass player who sound huge with this little piece of wood usely called hofner violin bass.

would love to see a video on Klaus Fluoride of the Dead Kennedys.
Very cool video, Paul. Nice job covering the highlights in 10 minutes.
Good video! please do Jesse F Keeler from Death from Above 1979
Amazing video Paul Del Bello👍 :)
Excellent video!
YES! Thanks for this video Paul

Great video!
Versatile Bassist 🎶🎶
este es profundo analisis. esta bien. me gusta esto.
Looking forward to this before you start.
Highly recommend looking into Steve Kilbey of the Church - he has a really unique style.
Great video 👍
Why did you start playing death metal at 1:31?
He started playing bass after Stuart Sutcliffe passed away and also great video
Excellent video as always, McCartney is one of my favourites atm! Could you please please do Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Rex brown please ;)

Cool video man!!
Episode 51? Maybe Shavo Odadjian of System of a Down…….maybe Robert Trujillo of Metallica
Good videos!
We need a video on Joe Lally of Fugazi! Probably the best punk/post-hardcore bass player. In my opinion, at least :)
How can I sound like Bob Hardy from Franz Ferdinand on bass?
Could you make a bass habit of former bassist of APTBS, Dion Lunadon?
I'm a stingray or PJ bass guy. But I can't lie, i wanted to sound like macca.
I think he’s the most important bass player of all time
I’d watch that three hour analysis video

Work in progress.
Not too difficult.. a basic pattern. Many other McCartney bass lines are much harder
5:53 technically they had Eric Clapton in the band for a track haha
Ben Shepherd
Yes!!!
Video 3 of commenting until Paul makes a video on Muffi Puffi of Hevisaurus.
How to sound like Paul McCartney: be from Liverpool.
Let's have the next video be :,, How sound to Igor Tichomirov in Kino ''

Congratulations on 50!
Dude make a video about BILLY SHEEHAN
Si ok. Però qualche video in italiano fallo però
Come Together sounds as if it easily could have been played with fingers. There's 0 upper end or attack
The distinction needs to be made Paul pre-November 1966, and "Paul" 1967 onwards.
You have to differentiate between Paul and Billy's playing, don't you realise most of the stuff that you portrayed, was Billy's
The best way to sound like Paul, " Get out of my house bitch , I don't care if I was the one cheating , just get out and I'm keeping that prosthetic leg I paid for "
@5:56
Eric Clapton plays lead on *While My Guitar Gently Weeps.*
So technically, Clapton was in The Beatles.
