- In a heated back-and-forth exchange at a Senate hearing on abortion, a law professor from Berkeley accused Sen. Hawley of being transphobic after the Republican senator asked the professor if she was referring to women when using the phrase "people with a capacity for pregnancy." Professor Khiara Bridges added, "I want you to recognize that your line of questioning is transphobic."

It doesn't have to do with any agenda; the law is a thing that requires a level of specificity while being written. Regardless of your personal acknowledgment of the existence of trans men, people with the capacity of pregnancy who are recognized as men by the law still exist therfore dictating laws giving reproductory rights specifically to women runs the risk of taking those same rights away from people who might also need them. Thus as a law professor, referring to people with the capacity of pregnancy as such is the responsible thing to do.

Any rigorous web search will provide studies that show the complexity of the issue, and the fact that there are no conclusive studies giving the kind of stats Bridges uses so cavalierly. Bridges did not 'slam' anyone here, she merely parroted the favoured trans activist lines, condescendingly.
