I flew on the 787-10 flying back and forth from Newark to San Francisco in March 2019 and absolutely loved it! I have flow with United many times over the past 20 years and always had great service from the flight attendants. I agree with your assessment; United needs to elevate their food/clubs to compete against other carriers. Love watching your videos!

@@ricfermi5886 You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Pretty much any major international carrier got huge government help. People in the US are quitting jobs because they don't want to deal with bad employers anymore and finding better jobs. Covid switched the balance that you don't have to put up with low paying nonsense. And now wages are going up.

@@ricfermi5886 You should look at the break down of the math on where the money went. Roughly 800 billion were in the stimulus checks ( that have long since stopped), while roughly $567 billion went to increased unemployment benefits (also now stopped) So we are at about 1.4. These benefits have now stopped and people quitting is now only increasing. Only 4 trillion has been spent ( and i say only) so the rest went to companies. The few thousand went to average household didn't last long so clearly there are other reasons why people are quitting.

I took a flight on United's 787-10, but on EWR-LAX instead, about a week after the date of this video. My experience was actually better, meaning United is inching back to pre-pandemic service. Pre-departure drink was served in an actual glass (they still used plastic cups on my flight in August). There were warmed nuts and pre-meal drinks. The meal (lunch) was still served on a single tray (as opposed to multi-course plating pre-pandemic), but the food was quite tasty. Putting this aside, I have to say that inflight-hard product, meaning this 787-10, is top notch even when compared to top 6-hour international flights, and I do include excellent intra-Asia flights from top Asian carriers. I actually gave this flight a 9/10 on Skytrax (yes, you did not misread it).

We pay full price, we are not bloggers, we never get upgrades or free flights. Our flights and service are always a Hit and Miss for whatever airline it is. From our experiences 20% excellent, 40% good to average and 40% very bad. The most surprising was Copa Airlines B737-800 to South America 6 years ago with 4 flights. All flights were on time, service were excellent and seats were comfortable for sleeping even not lie flat. Our first flight during this trip was domestic flight with United. We were so delayed and have to run to Tom Bradley. While standing in line at the gate ready to board my friend got a message from United that our flight has already left. Return flight was also delayed almost 4 hours.
I hope by this time their flight schedules have improved. We are thinking of taking either Delta or United for our trip to Greece this year. Our choice will depend on the arrival time to the US. United will arrive 8:49pm while Delta will arrive 12: 02Am and 12:39AM. United might have an edge here. Stopover airports are also very important.
Happy and safe travels 2023 to all.

I guess I didn't? To be fair we didn't have any major turbulence, and being a frequent flier myself, I tend to drown out turbulence so I don't really feel it. So I can't really say.
However, the 787 was designed to automatically counter turbulence with their flight controls, which boeing says should reduce the effects of it inside the cabin.

I really haven't flown in a long time but will be soon and in 1st class for the first time. Do people keep those amenity kits? I mean the pouch and products inside? Curious minds want to know!

Of course! Unfortunately in the US you only really get those kits on very limited number of routes, but yes! Unfortunately for the bedding and the bigger headphones, no :(

I flew business class on United from San Francisco to Auckland 5 years ago tonight and then flew business class back to San Francisco from Sydney and I still have my amenity kits in my bureau.

They have websites where people will actually sell amenity kits. But you can't keep the bedding or crappy headphones.

I just flew with them first or business class from Newark to Costa Rica, it was the exact same breakfast choices. So, the Polaris is nothing special, when it comes to food.

Great Video but the subtitles are very distracting from trying to focus on the photography.

OH BOY! ECONOMY! Where some unlucky traveler gets to sit in a MIDDLE SEAT on a long haul flight, just like a Southwest 737! HOW "NICE!"

It’s 6:40 P.M. here on the east coast of the US and it was exactly 5 years ago tonight that I flew from Boston to San Francisco in economy only to connect through San Francisco onto Auckland, New Zealand on United Polaris in business class. As far as the lounge goes at SFO, I could have told you how pathetic it was as far as at 7:00 at night Pacific time, the place was totally trashed and next to no food was anywhere to be found. I ended up eating at Gordon Biersch and had a waitress who wasn’t going to let me leave because they were having computer problems and couldn’t process checks when it was time to pay. I even offered to go to an ATM to get cash and she wasn’t even going to let me do that. Finally, with about 30 minutes before my flight was supposed to board, they got the computers working. On the plus side, as I sat in the Polaris business class seats, the pilot comes onto the intercom and says they were waiting for a few more passengers to straggle in and as soon as they were seated, then we could take off on our trip. The second that he said that, I looked up from my seat and who is standing 5 feet in front of me looking for his seat in the row in front of me but Anthony Bourdain. I couldn’t believe that this trip to New Zealand ( and eventually Australia ) that I had been dreaming about since I was 9 years old and ( even though he obviously didn’t know it ) here is Anthony Bourdain here to send me on my way. I got to talk with him and shake his hand once we landed in Auckland as he was connecting onto Queenstown so he could film his episode on Parts Unknown in Antarctica.

9:31 Sorry, I think this is a cool part of takeoff, especially sitting BEHIND the wings where it is supposed to be at least a little less noisier!

Thanks for yet another report. Interesting, but I still stand my position to avoid US domestic (even premium service) where I can. Although I miss the sound of GE90s, I find the 787 better to fly on than the 777, with the A350 a touch better still. I hadn't realised Boeing had improved the 787 windows for full sun - my 788 experience was bad, and I just assumed slightly different light conditions on my 789 flights.

2:10 They DO have a Polaris lounge, however they are not at every airport and in ORD it was closed because of Covid :(

You're not eligible for the Polaris lounge on Transcon business on UA That's only for international in. You get the standard UA club even when it's open.

Typo alert. At 20:12 the copy reads "The seats fell private" instead of "feel private". I suspect auto correct.

I do not like to generalize but the three big American carriers all fail on inflight meals.

Unfortunately this is quite true, although I will say, at least in long haul travel, delta seems to be the lesser of the 3 evils 😂

Well, it is true. JetBlue is still the best in that thought, but since we don't eat that much outside, I think is fine to me.

An occasional flyer, I've noticed the Boeings are much noisier than Airbuses. Any comments? I feel in a Boeing product, I'm at a noisy nightclub.
