the soloist has an incredible voice and stage presence. The choir blends beautifully. My favourite part is when the sopranos came in toward the end singing "ahh". And the girl at the end of the middle row on the left is just so into it. She does this really cute little shimmy near the end that is just the epitome of joie de vivre. I really love this choir!
I was feeling down and worthless, like I had nothing to give and no reason left to live. This song came on the radio. Now I'm filled with Holy Spirit and overflowing with joy - ready, able, and eager to serve Jesus. And possibly driving my husband slightly crazy because I'm playing it on repeat. 😜 Alleluia.
The girl in the second row all the way to the left makes me so happy. So into it, appropriately, like I would be if I was singing such a glorious song. You go girl!
sang this song in an all state choir in HS--in Stockton CA at UOP. Not religious then or now, but it was electrifying to sing! The solos were amazing, but we were not anywhere near this good!

🤔🤔 I’m sorry to hear your conductor, was merely an arm flinger. Maybe he/she was an imposter. I never have experienced that or seen flingers, or the problems it causes for the choirs, bands or Orchestras, while they perform. Man, I am picturing the whole thing! 😅😂
I really enjoyed this choir. they sound majestic. I really enjoyed the lead singer too. he was very distinguished. loved this. to the director, keep it up. love this song too.

amen, a true homage to your people.. some of my favorite worship music are "negro spirituals". I have a whole playlist dedicated to this genre. There was a german theologian who was eventually put to death by the Nazi Party named Dietrich Bonhoeffer. At one point he came to America and fell in love with these type of spirituals. He could've stayed in America and avoided the whole mess back home, but God convicted him he had to go suffer with his people so he went back to Germany. He wrote a book that's become a classic called The Cost of Discipleship and also his Letters from Prison. There's also a movie about him called Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace.

Very good performance. Only thing is that this isn't an arrangement. Hall Johnson wrote it from scratch as an original composition, in the style of a spiritual. It's so spot on that it sounds exactly like an arrangement of an older spiritual, even though it's not. He knew what he was doing!
Can anyone explain why this is a different version than all of the other ones? The 7th chords at the end is awesome. Is this Clausen's own addition or is this actually in Johnson's arrangement? Would like to know because I would like to use this version for my choir this year. Thanks for your help.

Kenney is an amazing soloist - what power and expression! This is one of my favorites, and he's made this piece even more amazing than it already is!
