    One thing I have to add about the Podium Record; in terms of Main Grands Prix, Verstappen hasn't finished lower than P2 *all season.* Schumacher had one P3 in Malaysia. If Max maintains this P2 or better streak for the rest of the season, he can beat Schumacher's podium record on a technicality with no P3's. Heck, even if he gets a single P3 in a Grand Prix this year he'll *still* beat Michael by that technicality with a 95.45% top 2 rate vs Schumacher's 94.12%.

    Out of the 15 records you talked about in this video, 7 have a high likelihood of being beaten, 2 are impossible, 3 are medium likelihood, 2 are low likelihood and 1. If Max beats at least 5 of the records which is very likely tbh then he will have undoubtedly the best prime in F1 by a big margin plus if you exclude the impossible records, the record for most wins without the WDC, and the #3 career wins before the end of 2023 (which is at really a record cuz it’s impossible for Max to get it before he turns 26) then that means 7/11 of the most well known and insane records in the history of F1 have a high likelihood of Max beating them in the same season. Plus I think you need to point out that Schumacher’s record was helped by the old points system.

    • @MrVsGarage
      @MrVsGarage  9 месяцев назад +25

      In theory it's easier to become WDC with 7+ races left now there's more races in a season. But then again, 3 DNFs doesn't put you out of contention now like it used to with less races. Basically, the 2002 season is a complete outlier with a clear favourite car but a 2nd driver with awful luck/reliability. Going to take a while until that happens again.

His only notable mistake was Australia where he spun out in practice. Compare that to Checo who’s spun out just about every weekend in FP or Quali this year, and still has yet to match Max’s pace save for Baku. It is truly spectacular and while yes, no title fight being a bit boring in some ways, watching Max push the envelope in the pursuit of absolute perfection has been a joy to watch. In terms of dominance it is a great season so far. It is a great season for those who enjoy the deeper aspects of F1, the technical engineering, the pressure, the unpredictability etc. Zandvoort was a great example of how Max and RB handled the unpredictability with such control. Even if Max staying out after the first lap turned out te be a mistake, his mighty, dominant race pace and overtaking skills in the following laps were truly mighty.

Verstappen indeed has taken the record for most consecutive wins, but is now also 226 points ahead, with 4 to go and has already broken record for most points record, most laps led and equaled most wins in a season. Further, he's 2 fastest laps and 1 podium off equalling those records. Oh and he won the WDC 6 races from the end (after taking 7 points in the Qatar sprint). What a mighty season he's had.

    The RB19 is probably the most consistent car in F1 history, but I still think that w11 is probably the most dominant car performance wise. Consider that the car Merc was fielding in '21 was still technically 2 seconds faster than THIS RB. That's insane. Yes, regs changed and such but that doesn't detract from how utterly insane that Merc was. It actually makes Max challenging it all year in an inferior car all the more impressive. He had no business dragging that RB to the title over that Merc, but he over performed the car and was rewarded for it.

    • @pear4576
      @pear4576 7 месяцев назад

      The Ascari records from 1952 stood for 71 years and since the 3rd season of F1. Seeing it broken now is kinda weird, like Max makes it seem like he broke it with ease, but it's crazy how nobody broke it in that 71 years. And with 2 races left he's broken it, and he could take it further. And who knows what could happen next year... The 2 races Checo won could've very easily be won by Max. He finished P2 and correct me if I'm wrong but I think one of them he had a car failure during qualifying starting in p15 and still finishing p2. And then I believe the other one Checo won because Max pitted just before the safety car, and Perez pitting during it.
      It's not unreasonable to think that Max could've gone for a 15 win streak up to Singapore. It wasn't like he made mistakes or had a bad race. And well Singapore, that was just not his to win. He would've needed some extreme luck to win in Singapore after that qualifying, but with the strategy and his race pace, had he gotten through to Q3 and started maybe p6, who knows...
      But aside from Singapore, it wasn't really his fault that he lost those 2 races, which goes to show how many things can just go wrong for you to lose a race and makes his consistency at winning all the more impressive. It's also not that weird for people to think Ascari's record would never be broken, it stood for so long and it seemed unlikely anyone could do it. But honestly if Max keeps this up next year, we could see him break Ascari's record 2 years in a row, and maybe even break his own record of win %...
      He's also on another win streak of 5 right now, and it's pretty likely for him to get to 7 by the end of the year, so he could be challenging his own record of 10 in a row next year as well... Just insane stats, I also love seeing records being broken btw. It's really the only reason I got into F1 now. I'm a stats person, it's just fun to see all these records being shattered.

      I dont think we're at the point that we should be creating a distribution like that, since points distribution have always been based on how reliable the cars are and only really RedBull would fit that standard (And maybe Aston Martin, that thing is made of steel), so we'd have to compromise to points to around 15th. The@@JXLY7 The thing is, catching up is a lot less likely, you almost purely rely on the other one making mistakes, as even if you beat the other one to first and he's second, you only gain 1 point on them as opposed to 7. So while they may look to be a lot closer, they really aren't all that close. (Also, it rewards stand-out performances less. I'd actually prefer points from like 50-1, so everyone still gets points but not linearly)

    I look at it this way: Formula 1 drivers are generally agreed upon to be the best drivers in the world, and because the teams, the technology and the rules change every season, you basically have to think of each season in isolation to the others. You're right, you'll never know who is truly the best of all time because there are so many variables. But you can look, generally, at who was actually the best in each given year. This is, to me, what makes every championship, every race win, every stint, every lap and every pit stop actually matter to me. They're special once they're sealed in the books of history.

I genuinely think Red Bull can get the clean sweep and break McLaren's other 1988 record for win percentage in a season. I hope they don't, I hope that someone beats Red Bull at least once, but frankly, what we're seeing right now from Verstappen is amazing to witness, whether you're a fan of him or not. As a F1 fan from way back since the 90's, I am hoping to see MAX winning every race that's left, we all know it's hard, but if there's a driver that can do it, it's him, I don't care if some other people complain about it being boring and whatnot, but this is what peak performance looks like.
    Best machinery and driver pairing, this does not happen very often, it is almost magic.
    Also, I always find very weird that in other sports some athletes and teams have gone on long winning streaks, and people root for them to continue, however, when it happens in F1, nope, suddenly it's "annoying" or "boring" to some people.

    • @MrVsGarage
      @MrVsGarage  9 месяцев назад +2

      I think that in other sports each win in the streak can still feel like a competition, starting 0-0 and either side could win. In F1 if a dominant driver starts at the front and then just drives away it was like there was never a competition at all.
      I agree though, I'd like to see Max win as many as possible now and write history, it's amaing to witness when you consider how hard the other teams are pushing and how much talent is trying - and failing - to catch Max

    It's always tricky to the Indy500 in the 50's and 60's, since no F1 driver competed in it. I only recently learned that without the Indy500, Ferrari with Ascari won all F1 races in 1952, just the third season ever. After Max finished P1 in Zandvoort, there was this caption from F1TV stating he now equalled 9 consecutive (Grand Prix) wins with Vettel AND ASCARI.
    But only now I see that Alfa Romeo also won every race there was to win in the first ever year of formula one. Insane!

    • @MrVsGarage
      @MrVsGarage  9 месяцев назад

      So it's complicated. The Indy 500 was in the F1 Championship but was not a "Grand Prix" which makes the stats all kinds of stupid from that era. Some of the "normal" F1 drivers did go to compete in it though, including Ascari!
      It's safe to say though that Ferrari and Alfa were absolutely in a league of their own outside of the 500.
      Ascari won all-but-1 in '52 as Tarufi won the opening round (Ascari didn't even take part). Ascari then went on to win the next 9. His streak was only ended by his Ferrari teammates and in the end Ferrari won 14 in a row.

    Nice video dude, I do like stats, so this video definitely piqued my interest. I definitely was impressed with Schumacher's dominance, albeit at the expense of Hill one season, and yeah, I remember watching Mansell win his title(s) in F1 and Indy. Max is definitely a brilliant driver, I loved Hill, Mansell, Schumacher and Hakkinen, although let's be honest, if you were going to go out with a beer with someone Seb would be number one, he had a great sense of humour (I mean out of world champs, Riccardo would be top of the beer list otherwise :) )
    Hamilton has done very well of course, and we can't forget JB of course, another beer date contender lol.

    I usually hate it when driver and/or team dominate, but I actually want to see Max smash it because he is driving on another level and he's earnt it. I was also curious about Grand Slams, assuming Max already had a couple considering he lead every lap from when he overtook Checo in Miami up until he ended up behind Leclerc after pitting in Austria (248 laps, which is 3rd for most consecutive laps lead behind Ascari (304) and Senna (264)). But apparently the only fastest lap he got during that time was in Spain, so he's only on one Grand Slam this season. The record for most Grand Slams in a season is just 3, achieved by both Jim Clark and Lewis Hamilton, so this is a record Max could still grab, but considering how difficult a Grand Slam is to achieve I wouldn't put the likelihood very high. Most Grand Slams of all time is 8, by Jim Clark, and while Max is on 3 and could theoretically overtake him this season, I don't see this one happening at all.
