Its not like every guy threatens to resign a job just to get an offer of hike from the existing employer. Its also petty to stay on after a forced hike since the company may not perceive you favorably in the future and will gradually silo one off after such events.
I did once quit a job for a lesser paying job , and i'm a guy . The pay was less by 9% . I never ever asked for a pay rise too , just quit the job and moved on , no point getting a rise only after you give a notice of resignation. I think we all misinterpret Indra Nooyi's message here - she must have gotten raises without ASKING for them , by virtue of performance , and in a recession with significant numbervof layoff's its a huge political liability for corporate execs to take pay rises - after all thanks to woke-ism as well as implied social responsibility that comes at very high executive positions, especially for Indra as she was a demographic minority and female on top of that pyramid where negative publicity would likely subject her to thinly disguised bigotry by people who claim not to have a single 'bigotry' bone in them.
You could quit the job , because you could , you might have had some support but in case of women and not only women but even some other people it's not so easy to quit. There are cases , where you love what you do but you are not recognised or payed enough for it. Here Palki is talking about all those women who have so less of a support system that they are walking on the edge of hope of becoming like Indira Nooyi one day , and now her this sentence might make them think like "So.. it's not so prideful to ask for a hike in my salary." And her this thinking will be the beginning of her becoming a pushover.
@@Rash_max_2007Many companies have a limit to how much they can pay due to how much sales and markets they can effectively hold control of. So no point sticking on to same job because you get stuck in one way of doing things which defeats career dynamism needed for better wage and professional growth or work experience. Older Women have other domestic priorities that come into play , but same holds true for older men also. I took a 9% lesser paying job because it was less risky career speciality but with long term professional growth prospects , so you cannot argue men get higher wages just because they are men , but are more motivated to take risks for better long term growth including the risk of LESSER pay for a short term. Its not a men's problem if some women are not comfortable taking such risks, many men too will not take a risk to reduce their pay temporarily by 10% to get on a better long term career track. I had NO support - i was single and only focus was career and health , nothing else. Whats the point sticking on to a workplace that doesnt give due recognition - better to move on , because even a place that gives recognition to you today may have a change in management or business priorities tomorrow and they may not treat you as well tomorrow and may dump you with work that does not appeal to you professionally because it can create a career dead end.
@@ArrowBast I am pretty sure that when a person gets employed he/she knows the maximum wage they can get at a time in that exact position , or atleast knows the company's financial state. So he/she will ask for a hike accordingly. I am not saying that in a company which is financially at a minimum limit , in that company she works and she asks for a hike which is not appropriate and gets away with it. And where do you see me arguing about mens eligible wage and what he earns. If you feel that I am pressing on woman's issue more than you also need to understand , that prejudice against women is a real issue and it's not like it's eradicated , we need to show support in this actively. When I said that you had support I remember I did add a "might" , which means I am just assuming that. And you did not have a support , while quitting the job but you did have a plan right? Like that if you quite that job you will go for this job , or might do this or that? There are situations which make woman and not only woman but other people also fall into, like a job meets all conditions but just a bit higher wage and you had what you wanted. Now that I read what you say I understand you didn't get perspective only from where Palki, me and others with similar thinking are coming from. I would like you to read my previous reply once more and understand.a
@@Rash_max_2007 Everyone who changes jobs have a plan . You can ask for a hike - but usually its never given without appraisal cycles. Simply threatening to quit a job just to get a counter-hike is something that will not work in long run because as usual HR will think -why should we pay a woman so much when we can get a guy who can come at same rate ? You should first fix discrimination against women in hiring before you get into the topic of salary hikes etc . And As usual remember HR is well trained in salary negotiation and will tell they have fixed pay bands based on job description , job title and designation and education levels and multiple other factors . Unless you have full knowledge of other people's pay scales and background in your team doing exact same work - you cannot do salary negotiation without another job in hand as well as absolute willingness to move on if such negotiation fails . HR no longer takes people seriously who threaten to quit and move on just to negotiate better wage . The Best option is to work on your quarterly, half yearly or annual appraisal and have a quarterly discussion with your immediate boss on career feedback and ensure you at least exceed minimum expectations and have those basic expectations clearly defined . If you start using confidential data of other people to justify your wage requirements , then it can have negative impact . In my own case when i resigned , they came asking if i needed hike, but i told them i'm going for lesser salary elsewhere which only became a big joke on them. By accepting an offer from new employer and then last minute telling them you changed your mind because employer accommodated your request will only burn bridges when it comes to any future employment with the new employer later . Also if you negotiate a salary raise with your current employer , bear in mind they will also add more unwritten expectations to screw you in the next appraisal and give you the least possible hike. I have never come across anyone personally who asked for a hike in same company without an exit option to quit the job and move on , even if employer accommodates a raise request , they will certainly revise expectations and dump you with more stuff or do intense micromanagement etc . Either you are too new in your career or too ignorant based on what you have written . How will you prove/justify to your HR that you are underpaid without having confidential HR & payroll information as well as clearly defining the areas where you exceeded unwritten expectations ?
@@ArrowBast oh man..you really don't get where I am coming from. Listen lemme tell you a real life example , there's a video on this news in this channel only about the incident. A Pakistani official hired some woman and man promising them , a good pay , good accomodation and all other basic requirements. But after recruiting them , he didn't keep any of his promise and threatened them not to quit the job using there family. I think it was a diplomat in US or something. And even not in such dire cases there are circumstances that specifically a woman might go through where she is unable to quit the job. And there are inexperienced first time workers too who might go through this. I don't know what kind of a person you are leading this to job circumstances , when the conversation is clearly should be about how her one statement affects the mindset.
Wion has its own mind and thinking, address the most important and some that are not imp but necessary topics.they give different perspective of western.unlike keeping them as always right.but pointing the flauw from them and not only showing there good aidsse alone
Asking for pay hike is not wrong and would have been happier if Wion not made this about "setting wrong precedent for women". Instead say "setting wrong precedent for all". Men and women, both are equally rightfully deserving to be asking for a raise. I'm saying ask politely. No need to demand anything. Neither employer, nor employee must demand or be rude. Everything can be politely and honestly.
In private companies it is catch 22. If you ask for pay raise you will not get it. If you do not ask for it you will certainly not get it. In private companies they do not give what they promise. There is another factor also- if you ask your due a standard reply is they don't have money now. In private companies 50 % of total salaries goes to top 12 people. If a private company says they will pay in black- kick them. They will never pay.
One thing I realized early on in my career. If you dont ask for it, you dont get it. If you are good at something never do it for free. If I work 10% more than my colleague, I want to be compensated for it. Keep you corporate awards with you, I want money 💰
Hey hey Palki get your research right. In India across the IT sector women are the most dominant force. They get salary same as their male counter parts. The HR team mainly has women who hire lakhs of employees alltogether so i dont see any biasness in India atleast.
WION better be careful, from now on, all reporters will make a news report about how the corporates are exploiting the poor employees before asking for a raise.
Very Well said Palki! Now I know how Indira reached those height! She never had to Break Any Glass Ceilings, She just towed in line! & for that she was rewarded not with Salary but with Position! All for the SHOW of -"GENDER EQUITY'
I think its less about stereotypes and more about biological differences in males and females... Females tend to be more agreeable in nature in order to avoid any kind of conflicts around their babies and stuff so that behaviour gets reflected in the coorporate world... Women tend to choose jobs which pay less the fact u mentioned where a women in us earns 80 cents for each dollar and u mentioned something about Silicon valley...so considering women s participation and capabilities in Stem Sector its fine to me :/
If someone is eligible they will get no need to ask for raise. If you believe u r underpaid then ask for it.If not able to ask then look for other opportunity.
@Vishakha no, I don't. My only opinion here is that everyone who doesn't negotiate a salary is not necessary a female. 90% of Indians don't. That's based on my experience. And when they do they do it for stupid reasons
@sudhir bhandary it's not we Indians don't ask for more pay, there are millions to take the job so corporate is exploiting this option of not paying the market price (not all companies but most of'em). If you ask for more salary in interview you are simply not selected. Also it's a habit for corporates to ask for previous salary and again not make market corrections after 1 year upon joining the company. Because of this so called "women empowerment" I have seen in LinkedIn where a recruiter clearly denies job to male even if he was out of job for a year and has to take care of family and this is another exploitation by recruiters by taking only women employees. So Palki is correct women should demand more. In this case at least recruiters who do not want to take men bcoz for providing more salary, will stop to some extent.
No Palki, you are wrong on this one. Aggression and dominance run the corporate world. Men were built for the corporate world. As a woman, you either have it or you don't!
You said it Palki!!! I was dismayed to read this comment. (doesn't behove a person of such stature carelessly passing such a remark ).Heartening to listen to this. Merci mille fois🌷🌷
😅😂 will she not be paying more tax if her CTC is more ? So , better to utilise what the company gives ex : car .. jet ... Bigger house ... Holidays ... And stay at lower salary 😂
Not just with women's asking for a pay raise is a problem for men as well ideally people move out for a raise since pay raise is like a taboo in a competitive market like India.
Because she was confident that company can't afford to loose her finally she will get more payments than she expected 😜😜😜 She was lucky but if you feel askfor it every person is different expectations too
Am I the only one who thinks of it as a smart move... In US your salary is heavily taxed and these ceos try and take salary as less as possible to avoid paying their net worth...they any ways have all the company resources at their disposal..from jets to travel etc...also lets not forget that there is not just one mode to pay...there's equities, bonds etc that also provide for an income without that heavy tax bracket... What is wrong though is projecting a docile employee image... However not taking the pay raise is definitely a smart move, remember mark Zuckerberg taking 1 usd as his salary?
No, a capitalist should get an ever increasing pay raise while a communist should get nothing. All people who work hard to better themselves are capitalists while those who are lazy and whine about not being rich are communists and deserve what they get.
After taking high pay cheques for years together with lots of perks it's easy to deny salary raise (though I still doubt) Not all women as well as men could do it I have not seen gender biased salary in health sector In daily wage workers its common as males do heavy work n females r given bit lighter work Is it same in corporate sector too??
A mother will feed it's child only when it cries..... So don't wait for your boss to think about your pay rise ......u think of it and ask otherwise everybody will think it's your choice and your v happy with the pay given even if it's peanuts 🥜.

Anyway nice video Palkiji please keep up with this kind of videos and if you can please present a report on how IT industry is butcher by this so called non technical leaders or managers
Asking for a raise is completely personal choice. It has nothing to do with gender. It all depends on if your pay is enough for you to live a good life and will asking for more invite unwanted attention and extra workload.
Haven't u heard about the survey that found men working longer than women in the corporate world? What is the pay gap between u and ur male counterpart? I won't be surprised if ur pay is much more than others because u are the best of them. It mostly depends on the work we do and on what they get out of it.

My heart goes out to her!
Wion has its own mind and thinking, address the most important and some that are not imp but necessary topics.they give different perspective of western.unlike keeping them as always right.but pointing the flauw from them and not only showing there good aidsse alone
Well said...Why should we not ask for a raise?
Asking for pay hike is not wrong and would have been happier if Wion not made this about "setting wrong precedent for women". Instead say "setting wrong precedent for all". Men and women, both are equally rightfully deserving to be asking for a raise. I'm saying ask politely. No need to demand anything. Neither employer, nor employee must demand or be rude. Everything can be politely and honestly.
She's getting millions for her position
And expecting the working class to negotiate.
If you think you deserve it, you WILL ask for it. May be Indra didn’t think she deserved it.
Thanks
Is Palki indirectly taunting her boss for rejecting her raise.
The way you convey every information is perfect 😆😄
One thing I realized early on in my career. If you dont ask for it, you dont get it. If you are good at something never do it for free.
If I work 10% more than my colleague, I want to be compensated for it. Keep you corporate awards with you, I want money 💰
Yes it's true. ..pay hike needs to be raised and asked
Hey hey Palki get your research right. In India across the IT sector women are the most dominant force. They get salary same as their male counter parts. The HR team mainly has women who hire lakhs of employees alltogether so i dont see any biasness in India atleast.
Ms. Palki is my inspiration❤️ I just live her personality, her point of view, her way of talking, just live her ❤️
WION better be careful, from now on, all reporters will make a news report about how the corporates are exploiting the poor employees before asking for a raise.
Hi woman must be payed equal to what a man is payed that is all I have to say about this!!!
Very good for PepsiCo but not good for women's equality.
Not very helpful to the average female of India
Who is still in a rut.
Very Well said Palki! Now I know how Indira reached those height! She never had to Break Any Glass Ceilings, She just towed in line! & for that she was rewarded not with Salary but with Position! All for the SHOW of -"GENDER EQUITY'
Raise but in equity !
I love a powerful woman
Then become one
Lessen ur male hormone lo u r a powerful women.why so genderbaised. Luv people who r dedicated
I think its less about stereotypes and more about biological differences in males and females... Females tend to be more agreeable in nature in order to avoid any kind of conflicts around their babies and stuff so that behaviour gets reflected in the coorporate world... Women tend to choose jobs which pay less the fact u mentioned where a women in us earns 80 cents for each dollar and u mentioned something about Silicon valley...so considering women s participation and capabilities in Stem Sector its fine to me :/
I work in India and I'm grossly underaid and overworked.
If someone is eligible they will get no need to ask for raise. If you believe u r underpaid then ask for it.If not able to ask then look for other opportunity.
I am 47 m. I just realised i am a female based on this argument
And who decides which gender is agressive? Of course men again !!
You said it Palki!!! I was dismayed to read this comment. (doesn't behove a person of such stature carelessly passing such a remark ).Heartening to listen to this. Merci mille fois🌷🌷
why do you have palki's photo as your profile pic ? lol
U r teaching to great Indra Nooyi Madam, she is the greatest asset, learn from her instead of getting cheap fame by using her name.
😅😂 will she not be paying more tax if her CTC is more ? So , better to utilise what the company gives ex : car .. jet ... Bigger house ... Holidays ... And stay at lower salary 😂
We would prefer tax to staying low. It's about our self esteem and our rightful labour cost.
Well said
Atleast ok If she is saying not asking for raise but clarify as well if any one who deserves could.
Not just with women's asking for a pay raise is a problem for men as well ideally people move out for a raise since pay raise is like a taboo in a competitive market like India.
Time for Palki to ask for a raise I think
Remember this big people will say something in front of journalist and different thing in front of employee
Wonder if Palki asked for one.
Turning down pay raised is odd.
So this is the person promoting our kids sugar addiction and now wrong mindset.🙄
First quitting jobs AND NOW pay raise ...Palki ma'am you trying to say something to your HR ...LOL
Right on
Man, just go to ur boss and ask for raise
My boss tries finding reason to decrease the salary🥺🥺🥺
Great point
You are awesome!! Thank you
Because she was confident that company can't afford to loose her finally she will get more payments than she expected 😜😜😜
She was lucky but if you feel askfor it every person is different expectations too
True...agreed...I did it
Correct.
Palki Ma'am is doing a great service to journalism and to humanity.
Rich capitalists don’t need pay raises, but rather deep pay cuts.
No, a capitalist should get an ever increasing pay raise while a communist should get nothing. All people who work hard to better themselves are capitalists while those who are lazy and whine about not being rich are communists and deserve what they get.
I look upto you Palki. Love you so much!!
Now that is a strong woman speaking
After taking high pay cheques for years together with lots of perks it's easy to deny salary raise (though I still doubt)
Not all women as well as men could do it
I have not seen gender biased salary in health sector
In daily wage workers its common as males do heavy work n females r given bit lighter work
Is it same in corporate sector too??
A mother will feed it's child only when it cries..... So don't wait for your boss to think about your pay rise ......u think of it and ask otherwise everybody will think it's your choice and your v happy with the pay given even if it's peanuts 🥜.
Here you go Essel Group; are you listening, Palki is asking for a raise!
Yes absolutely wrong message …. And you see this is the problem with world leaders…. It almost feels like we following Chinese method of living ….. so wrong that expenses for living gone up …. Housing market going up…. Even the handyman and laber price gone up…. We working in white colur jobs we not allowed to ask for rise…. Working in IT specially it’s quite suffocating where person like me works extra hours and things get turn down into ohh maybe you don’t have enough skills to work during business hours hence working after hours but people don’t understand that some of the coding and backend work takes tone of efforts. Anyway nice video Palkiji please keep up with this kind of videos and if you can please present a report on how IT industry is butcher by this so called non technical leaders or managers
I am always agree with palki but on this issue of gender pay gap she is totaly biased towards women
true happens to men too its about how u prove ur value to a company
Opinion it is.
Have you read the article which says women works less but completes equal work?
@@likitadevi In that case, why women unable to compete with men in many industries. We all know that it is a bullshit article that may be written by a feminist. I can't say it is not possible but it takes generations to achieve that.
Palki! I will not be a shy...
I think if she asks for pay hike she would be replaced 😂or something like our director generals have fixed pay scale(without increment)in govt services 🤔🤔🤔
so true 😃
Minimum pay in India is very low
Don’t be greedy, don’t ask for raise unless it is very below market rates.
Indra nooyi got Inspired by Nattu Kaka
She is very good brillian worker 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗and handle top post .
Palki sharma... Is amazing and intelectual anchor...
I never asked for a raise in my job and retired as an MD . Well its your choice . All my collegues who uses to tell me that asked and got raise after a certain level they just tapered off
It is not salary that counts at MD level. Those who know about Maslow's pyramid of self actualization will understand. More over, at senior level it is politics that takes one to the top and not pay check.
Everything goes in a circle or circles.... If there is a leakage in that circle.... I think that leakage can be fixed.... But if there are leakages.... I think those leakages can also be fixed..... It's just one has to know how to fix that leakage or leakages....
After watching this,
Wion: palki here is your hike.
Palki is right 🔥🌱
If you ask high pay boss will count more errors according to working experience
That's why govt jobs are considered equal. Except quota where people saluted you have to be saluted by you..(women/quota )both are grave. Place for right candidates make sense..
Indra Noyi has forgotten Kannada Proverb 'Only the Crying baby gets the Milk'.If you are not assertive you will be exploited.True hike in salary is not all that important after one you reaches certain level in the hierarchy. But certainly the lower level workers need periodic revision as he forms large part of the economy and always at receiving end of policies of a organization.
Look at the Indias Gas Subsidy reimbursement to High Net Worth Individuals in the initial years toN.Narayan Murthy/Nandan nilenkini/Sharukh Khan/ All IAS/IPS officers/Ajiz Premzi /Zunjanwala/Nirav Modi/Vijay Malya/Chanda Kochar/All corporate loan defaulters.....etc
