I love this show as an African/ Cameroonian am happy cuz this show is showing the world a different part of Africa that the western media has refused to show. Thank u guys so much. 💋💋❤️ #proudAfrican #unitedAfrica
It’s not that the west doesn’t want to show it’s that Africans are not participating in telling the story!! These stories and writings are beautiful. Most western non profits are trying to generate donations/funds and show the worst of Africa because that’s their line of work. Africans don’t validate fashion, dancing and acting until the west validates it….. it’s time Africans start participating in story telling and SHARE it since it is the core of African culture!
The progress of cinematography in african sitcoms is just impeccable. I do wish Nigerian shows would use shots like these; it just adds that international standard...
I think they were so far ahead of their time! Now, in 2024, the biz finally may be ready. Maybe the industry has learned something from Issa Ray's success.
Looks very promising. Doesn't sound sensational at all. Hope it continues to be good. Good to see beautiful black Africans who did not bleach their skins.
That main character girl went to Rutgers! Either way, whether you like the characters or not, the acting is on point. They're basically letting people in on the conversations often had by people who haven't returned home in years and didn't have their parents recreating little Africa to the max in their homes. I guess the issue is that these are typically private conversations, and thus, the controversy begins. Love it! :)
I'm so happy to see programme that shows the journey back home. I'm Zambian born been in London since I was 4 and I'm now 29 I plan on returning next year and the thought is scary and exciting all at once. I know how people at home can treat you like a foreigner in your own birth country but it's my home. I just hope to meet like minded people and settle in. I always love home and I know it will be a huge change but one I look forward to. Fingers crossed!
+Cadence Opera up until a couple of years ago there were about 50 black people in Romania, or at least it felt that way. We would never see them on the streets but we would see them on tv- we have several black (mostly mixed) tv show hosts, news anchor, singers etc. Recently I've seen a lot more black people, and mixed couples And to answer your question- I'm not sure, some people are assholes, but most, would treat you like any other foreigner- with a lot of interest towards the place where you're from and and interest in getting to know you. It also helps that you're a good looking woman. I am sure you'll be fine there :)
I love that Edinam Atachie is part of this show. I love her. She's Legendary Ghanaian actress. "A stab in the dark", y'all remember that classic movie?
I'm from the states, so unfortunately I don't know much about Africa from a first person point of view, but I'm loving what I'm seeing so far and looking forward to watching more. Perhaps, I'll even get to visit one day, that would be great. :) I'm so interested in how our traditions have changed and what has stayed the same. Thank you for sharing, new subbie!
Blew me away. Lucidity, Camera work, sound/picture quality, clear speech, not a single uncessary scene. Whole concept is dope. Has a message for both Africans living in or outside Africa. Humor ain't bad either. I'm rather appreciating this work than being analytic. Just dope!
For those who keep saying this is not or representative of Africa I first of all I hope you are African, second of all if you guys who think of the stereotypical Africa they keep showing on TV as africa well that's not Africa; third of all this show mostly relates to those who are African but are born in a different country. Some of the things they are talking about I fan relate to everytime i go visit Ghana.
The people making negative comments probably still watch crappy Ghanaian and Nigerian movies all the time. Now you have standards huh *rolls eyes* I found the writing to be extremely strong. As someone who has returned home as an adult this exactly the type of things you've heard and the exact conversations you've had with your "returned" friends. It's 100% accurate and it resonated with me very strongly. I'm loving it so far!
+Kamaria S. My sentiments exactly. Perhaps we should chat more on it over a cup of coffee if you living here in the U.S...............#EntertainmentCritic
I'm so excited about this series. It's like the best African production I've seen and it's right here on RUclips! Also, I can live vicariously through these characters. I've always wanted to try out living somewhere in Africa but I don't have any one there who can help and I am so"American" I'm not sure I would adjust well. All that being said, thanks for this! I'm a fan after only one episode:)
That's exactly how I feel! I would really love to go see Africa for myself, but alas I am broke lol. Oh well. I want to live through these characters and see Africa.
Funny how every country in Africa is so similar. I went to Kenya last October after being in the states for seven years and my second day there I woke to take a shower and there was no water. I mentally stated freaking out for a few seconds then remembered that water gets turned off on Mondays. Then on my last week there water went out for a whole week. STILL LOVE AFRICA regardless.
LOL African countries are far from being similar girl. Maybe amongst english speaking countries yes, but a french speaking country like Senegal is very different from kenya, from Morocco, from South Africa in so many ways. If anything, I'm glad your loved your journey in Africa. :)
Freesia120 there actually is difference based on the language. Different colonizers left different cultural legacies. It doesn't mean one is better but there are definitely distinct similarities among Benin, Senegal and Cameroon, etc that you won't find in Nigeria or Kenya
Joyce Nounke How about living in a an apartment and their is no running water. Theire is all the plumbing, but we have to haul water in order to take a bath and cook, clean, etc. You don't waste water when you have to haul it in yourself. If I have to pee, I don't flush the toilet, I'll flush it when several of us have peed. Do you know I have to take the top off and fill the bowl. You only do this with family.
dang man i cant wait to go to africa, Im african Amer. which means most of mean is prob from west, Igbo, ashanti, fulani, etc and maybe some from central, east and south. but man I just cant wait to go, love the motherland, we are the most ancient people in the world, all the different ethnic groups and traditions. Love the series! does any one know the song at the beginning that was a dope song, the motherland, can someone tell me the song
Binge Watching from the USA!! This show is awesome! I have always been a fan of Sex and the City and I'm very Afro-Centric,, so when I found this show, I fell in love!!!! Its so great to see Africans represented in a positive light! Its refreshing!! The actresses are gorgeous with their natural hair and designer African clothing!! This definitely makes me want to visit the Motherland one day....Great show!!! keep up the good work!!!!
love this... as an American who is repatriating to Ghana, it is quite a familiar (as well as unfamiliar) perspective... THANK U FOR CREATING THIS SHOW!!!
Its 2:17a.m. right now here in Atlanta, GA and I just clicked a link from my Facebook to this first episode... I'm sad that I haven't heard about this sooner (especially since I've been anticipating my upcoming trip Africa)!! But you can't imagine my excitement right now since I have so many episodes to catch up on LOL!! Good Job!!!!!!
These guys should be applauded!!! They started web series!!! Now all other African countries are doing it too! Sooo happy for this!!! Africans Just Run the World Baby!
I'm shocked by all the negative comments. I was actually pleasantly surprised by this episode. I liked the actors, writing, and cinematography. Y'all r tripping. Great job everyone and I just want to say thank you because being African American we don't have much insight on Africa for obvious reasons. So I love seeing authentic things about Africa in a positive light.
I'm just going to watch this for the sheer enjoyment. I'm sorry if it offends but as an educated AA woman, I kind of figured that this is not a complete representation of ALL African women who lived abroad and returned home. Give us some credit for that, please.
Watching this again for the 3rd time, I even bought the vhx season 2 but cant remember changed my email n cnt remember my password 😩 please bring season 3 ❤❤❤❤❤😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I just read an article from cosmopolitan that showed up on my Facebook timeline. I read the article and was intrigued by what I read. Today, I watched the show for the first time. You now have a subscriber. I am going to watch the shows and tell others as well. Awesome!
I love this show, it's an excellent portrayal of African women as educated, beautiful, classy and smart. I give this show an A+ and keep up the natural hair it's a true depiction of African beauty
R Out of all the African countries I've been to, their culture is strongest. Ghanaians ALWAYS remember where they come from regardless. Their food is amazing, their transportation is amazing, and it's very safe there.
My husband is from Ghana. He visits once a year but wont move back. Ghanaians (sp?) are trying to move to the States and once they get here they don't move back there. LOL That speaks volumes to me! I've never been to Ghana and frankly... I don't have a desire!
Every Ghanaian I know, and I know many, owns property in Ghana as well as the US. My husband Is Ghanaian and it was an act of congress to get him to leave. Many come to the us then go directly back home. Because white western nations make migration so difficult for non-white people, many migrants fear going back home to visit bc they may not be allowed back to whatever country they migrated from. Lucky for you, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth so these aren't things you had to worry about. I'm sure your "husband" enjoys his Ghanaian vacations (& probably his second family) from your ignorant ass and tells you these things so he can have peace of mind. 💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿

So enjoying this...I can't wait to view more african tv shows. If you got any suggestions let me know. Seriously, exploring african culture past and present and loving it!
I read the NYT article about this show. I have to admit, my expectation going in is low. I'm thus quite pleasantly surprised by how watchable episode 1 in season 1 has been. I might watch a few more.
people love to complain too much.. n for no reason in fact. There is nothing wrong with this. My 3rd time watching the whole season while i await the second season. kuddos
I liked this, people who feel the same might also like Issa Rae's shows on here such as Awkward Black Girl, the Choir and RoomieLoverFriends= she's a genius! I also recommend 'The Unwritten Rules' by inkSPOT entertainment channel on here. I am new to this show but I'm loving it!
I am Jamaican and have lived in America for most of my life, I can imagine returning to Jamaica permanently would be somewhat of a culural change for me even though I visit there annually. I appreciate these ladies perspective, as that's all it is!; their perspective not a representation of all returnees.
please make season 2 available!! it would do great on netfix. I recommend "THIS SHOW TO ALL my friends and family but no one can seem to find it anywhere!!
The look of this webisode is one of the best. I like the characters, the sound, but especially the look. The relatability isn't bad either. Whoever is writing and shooting this series keep up the great work. NICE!
just can say how much i love this show these are the type of movies that we need from our Africans movies industry i cant stop washing this love all five characters their diversity is great nice show guys
SO this is how it all started!! I've been living in Kenya for short time and I can relate totally :) Love how Ngozi makes living in Africa sound so sweet and nice, fresh mango! you never have to leave the car! And she doesn't eat meat and spice, haha... This episode doesn't look that fancy in sky-level, I mean other episodes showed so many fancy places, swim pool, modern bars... and I like how they talk about more personal lives, jobs and society here :)
I have to say the video editing and the dresses/make-up are upgraded as the episodes precede! I always like the African style music at the end. This one is especially relaxing
First off I DO NOT understand why some people are bothered by the title An African city, I am Zimbabwean, living on the continent and although I understand we are "different" we are generally THE SAME and especially if you ever lived in a City like Joburg where I live were all Africans from all over the continent reside you will know that strip the border and the different languages we are really same people after all!! Those who know what I'm saying catch my drift, our cultural practices are not far apart and so are our physical appearances(but not always) so The fact that it has Africa in the title means we ALL can watch from Cape to Cairo from Congo to Ethiopia and our experiences are usually the same. Truthfully speaking if it had been titled "An Accra city" I wouldn't have really been eager to see it not in a bad way but because I would think "Oh they talking Accra stuff" .....This is my first comment on Google since I had this account in 9 years ago, Lol this time I just had to comment.
I love this show as an African/ Cameroonian am happy cuz this show is showing the world a different part of Africa that the western media has refused to show. Thank u guys so much. 💋💋❤️ #proudAfrican #unitedAfrica

Check out the Nigerian soap Tinsel - exceptionally high standards and brilliant writing/plotlines. This show is great but Tinsel is even better IMO
Here in 2020 to say I'm so proud of how far Nigeria has come in terms of cinematography. ❤😚
Please Bring Back This Show Where Are You!!!
I think they were so far ahead of their time! Now, in 2024, the biz finally may be ready. Maybe the industry has learned something from Issa Ray's success.
She is beautiful, reminds me of Lauren Hill. All the ladies are gorgeous. Happy to have found this and look forward to many more. Thanks
I thought the same thing--a younger LH.
This was one of my favourite shows so sad it wasn’t free to watch on RUclips anymore. So relatable if you’ve lived in the West and want to return home
Ikr, I want it back on RUclips so bad 😢
Looks very promising. Doesn't sound sensational at all. Hope it continues to be good. Good to see beautiful black Africans who did not bleach their skins.
Yes indeed
No skin bleaching

Reminds me of 'Girlfriends' with an authentic African twist! Luv so far
The girl from the start @ the airport reminds me of Toni Childs;)
she definitely does

Watching this in Romania! Great job, girls! This helps me learn a lot about Africa and its people, we don't have many resources here about this!
That's really cool to know :) Hope you keep watching. Nice with a little diversity once in a while :)
+OakiLory LOL sorry off topic, but how is Romania?? towards black women :)?? I'm actually learning Romanian and planning a trip there!!
+Cadence Opera up until a couple of years ago there were about 50 black people in Romania, or at least it felt that way. OakiLory i love Romania. my baby dad is romanian native.i still like him even tho he's a deadbeat dad.his personality is amazing
This only depicts one country in Africa though. As if one show of Romania is a depiction of Europe? Lol
Who's still watching in 2020??
Well it feels so good seeing such a wonderful video......
Give it a try

Just got home from seeing Jaja’s African Hair Braiding on Broadway. It was amazing to see “Sade” on stage (as “Aminata”)!
Thank You for bringing African pride to the world!

I don't know much about Africa but I did Hamlet with MaameYa and she's as Ghanaian as they come, born, raised educated & proud.
The people making negative comments probably still watch crappy Ghanaian and Nigerian movies all the time. Now you have standards huh *rolls eyes*

who is still here 2024 lols . i cannot forget about this series
Watching from Denmark - Loving the idea about wealthy women in a relatively poor country - a different perspective to African culture! Love it!
The main character on the show looks like Lauryn Hill.
+CzarJuliusIII I was thinking the same thing !
+CzarJuliusIII I thought the same thing
+CzarJuliusIII Exactly what I was thinking.
That's what I thought!
YESSSS I thought the same thing!

You can try to spend a holiday or two in some. Just build connections with someone you can trust, to help and guide you around. It can be fun.
I hope you finally visited Africa
Ghana 🇬🇭 to the world. Am loving it already
My teenage kids enjoying the episodes... helps set the expectations for them and their friends here ... Thanks NPR...
Thank you for showing what Africans are capable of, especially women.
What are they capable of? Having sex?

Thought about this show again after all these years.
NPR brought me here. I'm so excited. The interview was absolutely captivating.

I love this show, it's an excellent portrayal of African women as educated, beautiful, classy and smart. I give this show an A+ and keep up the natural hair it's a true depiction of African beauty
love this, this series gives an accurate look into middle class life in Accra. I've spent almost 4 months there and I love it. I love Ghana!
+Melanie-Jude Dawson Why do u love Ghana? The work? The weather? The food? Details!!!
LOL

just can say how much i love this show these are the type of movies that we need from our Africans movies industry i cant stop washing this love all five characters their diversity is great nice show guys
This is really interesting, it's a side to black/african culture i have never seen, great work!

I like it! And the ladies are beautiful.
Loving this series just after seeing the first episode. Nice to see gorgeous well spoken Black women.
Watched this 4 years ago when I was in abroad, coming back to Africa I really understood the movie..
This reads like a script from Americanah by Chimamanda Adichie. Nice!
U hella smart👌👌
Please continue this show please... 😭😭
Love this! Make Ghana proud!
Ughhhhhhh I'm obsessed already !!! Shout out to all my independent African Babes!!!!
