the sora and yozora fighting on an endless loop is really cool and funny when you consider that one person who is fighting yozora everyday until KH4 comes out. I can't remember what their name is, but hopefully someone here can point to them
man...MAN. Nanaki's discovery of this connection will always blow my mind. It's insane how strong the connection is. Nomura's got big plans brewing 👀 Great work on the vid! Will be going feral over it for awhile lol
When it comes to Sora’s crystallization, people always bring up Fabula Nova Crystalis, but everyone misses the fact that we’ve actually seen it before in Kingdom Hearts. The same crystallization happens to Xion when she is defeated by Roxas at the end of 358/2 days. To further the visual similarities, during Sora crystallization, the camera zooms out to a shot of the building where we see a bright white light emanating from where Sora is. During Xion’s crystallization, she also glows into a bright white light before disappearing. So what I think is happening to Sora is less Crystal stasis like in Fabula Nova Crystalis, and more like the heart assimilation that happens to Xion.
And the same thing happened with Kairi in KH3. Personally I think in Sora's case, it's meant to be a visual clue to FNC's influence on KH, rather than it actually being crystal stasis
So it was after I learnt about the FNC, I realized how Hollow Bastion could have been a hint that Kingdom Hearts was going to be connected to the Collection in some way. Since art work of the world shows that there's blue crystals under it. And yes, I know that the world is suppose to represent the World Tree form Norse Mythology. With that being the reason why I believe that it used to be Scala Ad Caelum due to how that world also had represented the World Tree. However, the crystals are specifically apart of Hollow Bastion and most likely remains there even after it returned to being Radiant Garden. And it makes me wonder if the reason why there are Final Fantasy Characters in KH is due to the world's connection to the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection of FF games.
That's a brilliant connection! I remember people talking about FNC after seeing a bunch of crystals in the Realm of Darkness in 0.2 and what that could represent, but I completely forgot about the crystals in Hollow Bastion! Especially bc they're still there in the Crystal Fissure in KH2. (And just bc the HB artwork associates it with the world tree doesn't mean it can't also be associated with other things as well!)
@@The_Violet_Howler Thanks. And I think no one talks about the HB crystals due to how they assume that Radiant Garden didn't have them. But I doubt that's the case due to how we only explored what was Available in BBS. Also, I had a thought regarding bloodlines due to a video by HMK. Pretty much Xehanort and Riku are both related to Ephemer. With the two of them being from different branches of the same family. Riku most likely being descendant of a member of the family who was taken to Destiny Island to protect them.
Remember The Master of Masters observed The Worlds of Unreality himself. And He wrote the Foretellers their Roles. Further, His Magic Book of Prophecies can manifest Worlds from Scratch. So, I think the Master literally Wrote Destiny Islands as a "Book" and placed the elements of Disney Romance Fairytales and Final Fantasy 13 versus/ type into that Book so Everybody "mirrors" Sora and Riku. So, his Magic Book, using the Astral (Imagination, Sleep, Death) Plane, manifests the World Sora and Riku exist in.
I love the theories and observations coming from all this! But your other videos on the Heroine's Journey made a very valid point about this being the perfect time in the series to revisit old themes in a new lens, like how Quadratum will likely be a revisit to the themes of Chain of Memories. With that in mind, combined with the info from this video, I've got two new theories running around in my brain. Number one, on the subject of Demyx being MoM and the Ansem/Xehanort identity theft plot from KH1 & 2. What if Xigbar... isn't Luxu? A "glitch in the prophecy" as it were. I mean look at the names: Bragi, Braig... Brain? If Braig-I-mean-Brain coordinated with Ava to trick the Master of "trust what you see not what you hear" Masters by fooling his All-Seeing Eyes, wouldn't that mean that they've successfully created a glitch in the prophecy of doom? It would mean that Luxu was never *actually* the traitor, and has been passively observing nearby while trying to be as uninvolved as possible. Which probably makes him come of as some kind of lazy bum. I hope he picked up music to entertain himself so he doesn't get bored. Number two, on the subject of Yozora's similarities to Riku and the Namine & Xion plot points from Chain of Memories & 358/2 Days. Cause he said that he isn't using his real face and body, meaning he got a different one somewhere. And artificial faceless bodies that change appearance and powers based on the memories you put inside them are already a thing, as seen with Xion looking like an odd echo of Kairi. KH3 was the same game where the introduced the mechanic of putting real hearts into Nobodies as a vessal, after all. Plus, Xion-style replicas absorb unchained memories to gain their appearance and powers, and Sora has conveniently forgotten quite a bit about Riku recently... they also turn to ice crystal when destroyed, meaning Sora might not have a real body at the moment, either.
The Jack connection with the MoM got me especially when the MoM said it name could have been Jack really hit me haha! That was a great find! Great vid!
Howler, you have made me go FERAL WITH THIS VIDEO!!!! I'm currently only a casual fan of FNC through watching the cutscenes of XIII ( and to a lesser extent XV and all of it's related media ), watching retrospectives of the XIII trilogy and Type 0, watching promos of the FNC, and of course, Nanaki's wonderful analyses on Tumblr, YT, and their google doc. But it's always a sub series I wanted to get more invested in for years at this point, not just because the games interest me in general, but especially recently through Nana's videos on Type 0. And after learning more about bits of the FNC lore, I have come up with theories of my own. So getting to play at least Type 0 before KH4 has definitely become a priority of mine. AND THIS VIDEO MADE THAT DESIRE EVEN STRONGER!!!! I LITERRALLY HAD TO PAUSE DURING THE DESPAIR AND SACRIFICE PART, BECAUSE THAT DETAIL ESPECIALLY MADE ME LOSE IT ( didn't help that I was drinking something while watching that part lmao ). And the comparison between Lightning Returns' ending and unreality is just so obvious, I'm surprised that I didn't think about that sooner myself. So uh, thanks for blowing my mind with this video ( and for making me lose it over that Back Cover pun ) I really hope a ton of people watch this
Aaah. Instant like. Nanaki's content make me go crazy but in a good way lol. For me, the first time i noted a connection btwn kh and FNC was Lightning Returns. Lightning and Ava literally had the similar roles
Yay, you did it!! That was a good watch, even if it felt like I was just nodding knowingly. lol One thing that I'll probably have to add to my own video on this topic is the fact that while Demyx shares Jack's Japanese VA, MoM's VA is the same as King who also shares some visual similarities with Demyx. (It's the hair.) As far as I can tell, there isn't anything else about King that seems relevant, but that just makes it stand out more. I keep imagining Demyx slicking his hair back to look like King's and suddenly being voiced by Sugita.
And once again, you have expended my brain to this new observation/theory. I don't know much at all about the other Final Fantasy games, but the parallels with Nova Crystalis and Type 0 were pretty spot on O_O It seems like... if KH3 was crazy, KH4 is going to be even more insane...

Oh my god. Final fantasy 13 is the series I have replayed most in my life, and I've been hoping yo make videos about the trilogy. It is safe to say that this video was SO EXCITING to see in my sub box!!!! Thank you for talking about these amazing connections - I've thought a lot about how much I want to see FF13 characters meet KH characters, but haven't really made connections between the two series before. Awesome work as always, and thank you for releasing this video..... I'm currently replaying 13-2 as of yesterday (trying to like it more, haha) so this feels so eerie, but in the best way!! Thanks so much!
Oh yay a fabula nova Crystallis catch up video! I admit that despite personal research on the matter, I am usually not as knowledgeable on the topic as I'd like to be, especially with type 0 and agito. I roughly knew everything you were saying, but I pretty much have no clue what ends up happening in agito or type 0 at the end, if the former is even over at all since it's mobile? Not really sure if the sacrifice to open etro's gate and the sound of sorrow from beyond do match all that well with Riku's sacrifice tho. Personally, and I'm surprised you didn't bring it up, maybe it's like too obvious lol, I've always seen the KH equivalent of Etro's gate as Kingdom Hearts itself. Both are literal gates/doors leading to an unknown world every villains always ends up wanting to do bad stuff with, where the souls of the departed go through after they die and stuff. Which is partially likely the reason why the Etro gate design is on MoM's tower if he likely has to do with Kingdom Hearts, if this design is what ties the two being potentially one and the same as doors leading to the afterlife kind of thing. I'm curious to see if quadratum really is or not inside/beyond the doors of kingdom hearts ahah.
Now that you pointed it out, I can't unsee the resemblance between the symbol on the Daybreak Town clocktower and the design of Etro's Gate. The designs aren't exactly the same, but there's definitely a clear similarity. I actually did touch on the Etro's Gate-Kingdom Hearts comparison at 11:52 with the footage of the hearts of the dead Keyblade Wielders from the Keyblade War floating up into KH in the prologue of 0.2, which resembles how I've seen descriptions of the souls of the dead ascending through Etro's Gate, but it was very brief and I didn't go into detail so it's a little easy to miss.
@@The_Violet_Howler oh! i thought it was obvious from the type 0 academy wall decoration! etro's gate is like an eye with a yin yang symbol in it (light and darkness theme too like kh!), while the clocktower and academy one is the eye, just vertically placed! but great job on noticing, in the timeframe you linked, the "end of the world and reset of the timeloop" both have the etro gate eye in the sky, while theres kingdom hearts in chi! i didnt know the gate appeared at the end of a cycle or in any of the games beyond artwork, it was neat to see during the vid!
Off topic, but I vaguely remember seeing a RUclips theory that the mechs in the Verum Rex trailer had iconography, and by extension connection, to some DS game about two parallel worlds fighting each other. I haven't been able to find that theory to get specifics since.
This makes me wonder what kind of a role did Nomura play in Type0. I know he's been credited the creator of Fabula Nova Crystallis in the first ever presentation of it, then later on was not mentioned much at all. edit: apparently he was around the beginning the creative producer
A few questions remain on my mind: _Why_ is Kingdom Hearts steadily integrating more elements from Fabula Nova Crystallis? Is Kingdom Hearts a spiritual remake/soft reboot of a series that wasn't as successful as its creators would have liked? Is this their way of resurrecting Fabula Nova Crystallis without explicitly reusing all its characters and lore, given the benefit of hindsight? Do they care if anyone "gets" all the references, explicit or implicit, to Fabula Nova Crystallis in the next saga of Kingdom Hearts?
Every time I've seen someone theorize that Demyx could be the MoM, I just kinda laughed it off and went about my day. But you're telling me there's ACTUAL strong evidence that he genuinely COULD be the MoM??? I don't know whether I love or hate how much what you say makes sense here XD These parallels in general are really interesting, and I'm kinda curious what the ultimate purpose of them is going to turn out to be, if it's just a fun homage Easter Egg for fans of both franchises, or if Nomura is doing something more with them that we just don't fully see yet. Either way, I'm interested in learning what that may be!
I had the same reaction when I first discovered the essay I mentioned in the video XD. For years, all the MoM!Demyx speculation that I saw was just people reacting to the “Xigbar is Luxu” reveal with “hey, wouldn’t it be funny if the bumbling goofball henchman was secretly the big ultimate mastermind the whole time?” without much substance to it. But when I saw the parallels between MoM and Jack laid out alongside the resemblance between Jack and Demyx I couldn’t un-see it.
