- Got no boat, got no problem! Not everybody has access to a boat when they visit Lake Powell, but that shouldn't keep them from enjoying the great fishing we have here. Lake Powell is taylor made for bank fishing. There is no brush lining the bank which provides miles of fishable shoreline for the boatless angler. In this video I highlight some key areas and techniques that will help you land a few.
Hope all is well these days. Heading up this weekend for the 1st time there. Best video I've seen on the fishing. Thank you
I always like to watch your vids a week or two before our trip to LP every year. Its a great refresher on solid fishing advice. And it gets me pumped up!!! I cant tell you how valuable these videos are to me. Thanks a million time over.
Thank you for taking the time to write that! You couldn't have given me a finer compliment. Good luck on your trip!!
I like that you even show your losses! Keep it up! Im going up to Powell and studying your approach. Thank you!
Haha love the dog trying to get the fish!
Probably one of the smoothest going fishing videos I've seen. please make more?!
Great video I’ll be up there in about a week and I’ve been there about four times on a boat for a week and I never really know what to fish so thanks for the tips
How did you do fishing? This weekend will be my 1st time there.
@@ABQMAILMAN67 i usually do pretty well its pretty great fishing out there
Thank you for sharing some of your fishing tips. You rocked man.
Love it!!!! Informative fishing information, beautiful footage, funny and entertaining.
I feel honored to be your 420th subscriber!
Ahh dang! I should have had a plaque made.
Great video! Thanks for all the advice and tips! I love fishing here in Colorado, but my favorite fishing is when I get to come down to Lake Powell every year and catch it all! I caught a bunch of stripped bass last year, can't wait to see all that I can catch now thanks to you! I'm so excited I've watched all your Lake Powell videos, and this video at least 10 times. Thanks again!!!
Thanks Max! I just caught a 4 plus lb Largemouth on a Zara Spook this morning walking the bank. Good luck on your trip man.
You crack me up man. Thanks for the great advice. Heading to Powell June 2020 first time, can't wait. You make it look so fun, these are great videos.
great video! thanks man. I am new to fishing and keep getting skunked so im exited to go to lake powell. So these tips really help.
Great video Kyran! The fly landing on the microphone (~6:29) freaked me out and I knocked my headphones off! Other than that... nice job!
Oh Man! I was hoping nobody would notice it. Stinking flies. Thanks for watching
Awesome video Ky! Loved it! I think that was the very "Yamamoto slash bait" I caught my very first Lake Powell fish on! You got me COMPLETELY hooked on smallmouth fishing. I'm finding a few great places for it here in Northern Utah. When you have a few minutes, check out my Deer Creek Smallmouth fishing video I posted yesterday. Putting some of the tactics you taught me to good use. And those wacky O-rings really do work. I caught almost all of the fish in my video on the same senko rigged wacky with the O-ring. I still have it and could probably catch more! Great to see another TST fishing video, and I hope there are more to come. The antelope video was epic btw, just like you said.
Oh, I can't forget to give my thanks and give you credit for that profile pic of mine. For putting me on that fish, and being the man behind the camera! That was a trip of a lifetime! I hope we can do it again some time.
Jeremy Christensen Good to hear from you Jeremy. Yes, that was the very same slash bait you ripped your first fish on. Thanks for the compliments on my videos. I'm headed over to watch your video now. Yeah i hope we can get together and do some fishing soon my friend.
I'm so glad you made this video. I'm making my first week long trip down to Powell this next week. The only boat we will have is the one that's going to be towing people behind it all day and since I'm the only one interested in fishing I'm stuck on the shore. So this was so helpful. I stopped and fished the shore a few weeks ago on my way to Payson and used a tube and caught about 10 in an hour. I'm stocked to go down there and try it out some more. Thanks so much for the advice.
Tanner Brown
Heck yeah! Have the tow boat drop you off on a long stretch of shore in the morning and then pick you up when they're done spinning around in circles in the evening. Glad you found the video useful. Have fun.
Another great video, very well done. Spot on on the Yamamoto products. When the weather picks up we always just pull the boat up and start shore fishing. Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.
Dungee Fishing
I'm really glad you liked it. I filmed the whole thing solo, so it took me forever to get all the shots because I had to set up the camera before I could cast. I can't tell you how many times I screwed up because the camera was set up wrong. I would catch a fish and think that I got some great footage and then get back to the camera to find out that it wasn't focused, pointed in the wrong direction, mic not on, or I never pushed record.
Kyran Keisling Yeah that kind of crap happens all the time. This spring we missed an amazing day of fishing up north because the brand new gopro card we used said it was recording, go back later to watch the footage and it won't load.
Great multiple angles and pertinent, knowledgable info and experience. I don't mean to sound weird or lame but you're very easy to listen to and know how to talk to the camera. Your personality is great and you really know what you're talking about. Your videos make me want to move to Page. Also was wondering. Where you had your "TST" shirts made? We're looking to get some of our own made, they looked good.
Thanks for the hard work and great video. Helps me hold off till we can get back to Powell.
Dungee Fishing I really appreciate your kind words man! Page is an absolutely fantastic place to live if you are into outdoor stuff. Its way out in the middle of nowhere and there isn't a club, Home Depot, Harkins, Benny Hannas within 120 miles of here, so most people can't handle it for very long. But if your into the small town thing it is about as cool as it gets.
I did my own t-shirts on the screen press we have at the high school while I was learning the process so that I could teach it in my class.
Really great video. I am going bank fishing there soon, but I would love to do a half day trip when I'm not so busy. Already have your site saved in my favorites.
My kids and I just went down to the fishing dock mid-day today and caught 5 nice stripers on anchovies.
Great video. Thanks for posting it.
You nailed the details!!
Love your videos! Noticed the Alaska hat;). Raised on the Kenai.
Thanks Chad. Alaska is my family's second home. We have been spending summers up there since I was a child. My in-laws live in Fairbanks and my brother is a welding instructor in Soldotna.
Try the Elaztech senkos, they last forever and are a little bouyant. Don't store them with your other plastic baits cause they will melt, Super strong and very soft and lifelike
Where is this? Bullfrog marina? Or the southern part of lake Powell? Thanks...we're going there soon!😁
Best place to shoreline fish??
This is on the southern end of the lake. Wahweap marina. There is a map in the video that shows where I am fishing.
Good stuff! thanks
Hey Kyran, loved the vid and will definately use your tips! My friends and I will be travelling there from Fort Collins in June as part of our senior trip, and having a youtube channel of our own (Straussgang), we are curious if there is any way to catch large stripers, or any large fish for that matter, off the banks. We want to provide our subs with good content and catch fish of a caliber that we wouldn't really be able to in Colorado. All the research I've done thus far points us to a boat, which is not feasible with our finances (were just 3 high schoolers trying to save up money haha). I'm sure any suggestions or tips regarding that are probably a stretch but any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Kyle, glad you liked the video. Sounds like a great senior trip. Lake Powell isn't really known for it's large fish. Yes, there are some giant Stripers swimming the depths but I am yet to meet anyone who can consistently catch them. You have to have some insane luck to hook one. The thing Lake Powell is known for is diversity and quantity. You can expect to catch any one of 6 different species and when the conditions are right you can catch a butt load of em. I catch stripers off of the shore all the time. All of the areas I list in this video have spots that you can fish for them. You want to find the deepest spots you can off the points. Cliff faces and steep drop offs. Chum copiously with cut anchovies. Fish average 3-7 pounds Also, night fishing for catfish and stripers can be really fun . At night you want to fish the exact opposite as the day. You want to find shallow tapering sandy coves. Chum copiously. Stripers are 3-7 pounds I caught a 12 pounder when I was a kid. The largest catfish I've caught is 10lbs but most are 2-4lbs. If you are looking for giants you should head down to the southern lakes like Roosevelt or Saguaro or the Southern Colorado River they have Flathead Catfish the go upwards of 60lbs and you would have more of a chance to catch a big striper on the lower CO.
Kyran Keisling awesome, thanks for the information, I really appreciate your time!
Great video! Good tips!
What are some good spots walking distance from wahweap? I will be camping there from July 6-12 TIA
Thanks man! Most of this video was filmed within walking distance of the camp ground. Head over towards the marina and fish around the fishing docks and then back into what we call Ranger Cove, where all the Park Service boats are docked. You can walk that shoreline for miles. Also do some night fishing with anchovies and night crawlers for catfish and stripers. Night fishing will be your best bet. Large and Smallmouth really slow down in July.
Kyran Keisling Thanks a bunch, really appreciate it. I will definitely use your info.
Strippers it is! I will let you know how it goes! Just subbed to your channel also. Tight lines!
@@KyranKeisling Thanks for the info. My family is heading there in early August and I will do some fishing
I’m considering taking my son around the Wahweap area in early April. How is shore fishing around that time of year? He’s happy catching anything. Is there any place else in the Arizona/Utah area that you’d recommend for shore fishing that time of year?
It should be getting pretty good in April but it can be very weather dependent. Cold fronts tend to shut them down. All the places highlighted in the video are good. Anchovy Point, Antelope Point and the Wahweap area.
hey man you ever get into walleye? im headed down this weekend!
There are some smarty pants fishermen that have figured out the Walleye and they load the cooler but I'm to dumb. I catch the occasional Walleye while Bass fishing or trolling in the summer time but that's it. I know that they use a spinner with a live worm rig thingamabop.
Kyran Keisling hey man went over the weekend and slayed the bass! 2 4lb smallies and my mom caught probably around a 10lb large!!
Total fishing newbie here, trying to get into it this summer. I tried keeping an eye on it when we could see your line but to me it looks like you don't have any type of sinker on there? I went to a lake in Upstate NY with basically a walmart starter kit and didn't have any luck catching anything besides weeds and branches. I think your bait method will help with that, but I am curious if I should be using a sinker or not?
I don't use any weight unless the wind forces me to. I like my Senco to flutter when it falls and a weight takes the flutter away. This is just my preferences though, a Senco can be rigged and fished many different ways.
15:00 So in hurry to go to bathroom he had to set up camera to film it.
Nothing gets by you, does it. Ah, the pitfalls of humor.
I'm going to be bank fishing around gunsight in October (13th thru the 20th), have any tips or advice for mid October bass and stripers? I've fished powell in the late spring and early summer mostly, first fall trip.
wouldn't mind catching walleye either
Mid Oct can be fantastic! Top water action seems to be better in the fall because there are more shad balls up close to the shore. Therefore, I like shad colors and action over crawdad stuff but other than that, its all the same. Fish at night with shallow crank baits for Walleye.
thanks!
I hope you had goggles to get that lure 🤣
And he got it!!! No goggles!! #gg
Hi Karyn if you're reading this I'm Trey
WHERE'S THE BEST SHORE SPOTS FOR CATFISH? IM SURE WE'LL FIND THE STRIPERS WITH THE CATS, BUT WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE CATS! ANY HELP?
You have to fish for cats at night. My family and I go out a lot in the summer. They are the opposite as the bass, they like to cruise shallow sandy bottoms and really like coves. There is a nice sandy cove down by Anchovy point and a really long sandy beach down there as well. Anchovy point has good structure for all species and very few people. Out of convenience we go by the fuel dock and the pump out dock by Wahweap a bunch because you can park right by the lake and the walk is short. My best bait is cut anchovies. Hope that helps.
Do you eat them or catch and release?
+Stewart Cox I only keep the smaller Smallmouth Bass and Walleye and I only take what I am going to eat for dinner. I never keep Largemouth or Crappie. I am not fond of eating Stripers but I do keep most of them and give them away to people who are.
Where are the giants?

Your cousin
Hi Trey, Aunt Cheryl says that you are going to be coming to Page pretty soon. We'll have to go out and catch some fish. Can't wait to see you buddy!
You can very easily dislocate a bass's jaw by holding them horizontal without body support. You swinging them around like a dipshit is about a guarantee dislocated jaw
+WestCoastFishing ....."Swinging them around like a dipshit"?
While I don’t think your use of “dipshit” to describe me is far off the mark, I do take offence to the “swinging them around” part. I prefer to call it………..
