I don't know if they mentioned it, but charity shop leather jackets are a good source of cheap leather.
Also couches. Look for leather couches in the free section of craigslist or such. Usually at least the back panel is salvageable, which can be something like 3x6.
Steam punk is wicked!! the music the clothes and of course the inventions!!!! all awesome

I love this pattern! I made a pair in white for my combat boots.
This is helpful... but it seems like a lot of the video is cut out. I'm not too thrilled about the video editing. It seems to jump ahead quite a bit when it could have more information.
Un grand merci pour ton partage
I'm so gonna try one of those
Great tutorial, thanks! :)
those shoes.... so beautiful

Since were under quarantine n stuff, I have some fabric lying around from a project I never did so I might just try this
Yes. you can find the leather needles in the needle section of your craft store.
Ah this is just what i needed for a cosplay *_____* thanks~ :3
oh my goodness - corinne did you make the hat you are wearing in the intro, if not where can i find one like it?
Corinne I LOOOOOVE your hat!!! where did you find that or did you make it!?
That is a rad shoe!

Do you need a different needle for sewing with leather?
I LOVE SPATS!
This is fantastic. Do I use regular thread? :o
I don't care if I sound like a loser but I think steampunk is gorgeous!

going to use this for my alice madness rabbit outfit ^^ thank you so much
Very Cool
I am attempting to do a spat out ov an older pair of side zip up boots. I just can't seem to wrap my head around how to make this happen. Why? I don't know. But I been staring at this already cut out piece ov bomb red leather boot I have taken the soul off of.
Literally staring at it. Attempting to figure this out. . I got nothin.
Can anyone help? Please? I'm getting all teary eyed here and quite thirsty. Being I been I. My shed here in Phoenix AZ for for days now hoping it will just hit me on how to make this happen! But this zipper is throwing me off and the fast it don't open up all the way. The red leather I'm using for my spat is 11" tall which is 2 inches taller than the boot it will be going on if this helps any. On a size 9 womans shoe
Did you ever succeed in figuring this out? I'm attempting the same, searched the web after dismantling my boots, and found your comment. My reasoning is that it doesn't matter if the zipper opens fully if I'm leaving it in, which seems the easiest approach (although not as fancy as, let's say, a line of buttons). In theory, I should be able to slip into the spat contraption prior to any shorter shoe, and then figure out a way to close the rubber band I should attach at the bottom ..... right? Yes? Maybe?
rad. thanks!
Great video! I'm hoping to make some spats out of a suede I just happen to have lying around. I'm going to me making them taller than what this video shows. Any other tips for taller spats?
I was just curious if I could use a section of your video as background video for Zoh's new fashion show at Otakon? Let me know ~ thanks
her freaking hat is amazing...damn
i love her headpiece too! :)
i wish they'd do a tutorial about that! :D
Omg throwback
can you make it without leather?
Thanks guys. That's very helpful. I'm trying to make a pair to cover shoes that will make them look like pirate boots.
I needed this for my Joker cosplay.
JEELLLOOOOOOSHOT FRUIT SLICESSS!!!
ok that was awsome i never seen something like that so mybe is ungly too....but those clothes were the coolest of ever
yeah!
wait, there were two pieces, now there are three? where did the third piece come from?
one piece is the side without buttons. the two smaller pieces are the parts where the buttons and the button holes go. That's why she said to cut the fabric pattern apart and trace them. So you have three pattern pieces.
AJ Michelle Madam Adriana thanks alot! 😊
Thanks for sharing this informational video. I'm going to try incorporate some of your ideas into making me some tall spats so that I look like I'm wearing fashion boots. I just can't find any "real" fashion boots to fit my very wide calves.
I'm using this for a similar concept as you. I'm going to cover boots that have lace-up. Possibly the only boots that wide-calved folks can wear. (You could trace a store pair with lace-up too.) I just need to make them a little taller so it can flap over as pirate boots.
spats have been used by the military throughout the world for hundreds of years (seriously) they used to make theirs by hand so as long as your hand doesn't cramp out you should be good to make yours by hand also.
DO LED SHOES!!!!
You haven't done that yet!!!
It's hard to find good jockey caps... mine is woven right now, and I need to upgrade to something more durable. This video is great, I'll be making some spats soon!
CAN YOU still make video responses?
This was never put up on itunes.
nice spatterdashes!
It is awesome, that's what.
cool as sh1t guys .... thanks sooooo much! Spats are very cool and I will be getting several pairs (can't make 'em myself just yet) as soon as I can find good ones that are affordable! Rock on!
her voice and the way she talks is cute. haha
Hei Corrin, I like your blouse.... did you make them? can u tell me how to make that blouse? i have a lot of laces lying around my closet so pls tell me how to make my own.
thx a bunch
Regards,,
Yuventa from Indonesia
Thanks. =D
I am a Springfield Missouri Central High School Kiltie. (Scotish drum and bugle corp. You should look us up 😉 we are pretty awesome!) We wear spats with our outfit! This is cool. We also wear Kilts. You should make a Kilt. That would be freaking amazing.
Corinne dressing extremely hot today!
That was a great tutorial, very well presented though I've one question. Aside from looking cool what are spats for? Do they protect your shoes or something?
is vegetarian leather pleather? or something totally different?
I would imagine so, you would just need to increase the top and bottom of the pattern as well in order to account for a finished edge.
Nice
... I think I am going to attempt a t-shirt hack version of the dress shown at 0:48. It was in the background calling to me! lol
a good was to hold materail together insted of using pins use paperclips
OMG I almost bought a pair of shoes that looked just like that but they weren't heels. They had the awesome buttons and stuff though.
are you going to show us more maker fair stuff in a vid? i'd love to see some stuff :)
@canadarox14 YEEEESSSSS LOOOOOOVE IT
s it just me or was some of the sound a lil off from the video at some parts?
