I always always think of the NYC parts of the movie - specifically from LJ and Chris meeting Gen in the park to the Pink Couch - as being like a mini queer coming of age story in the middle of an incredibly heterosexual movie. Right down to the fact that when Lara Jean hears the song she wants to be her and Peter's song (Beginning Middle End) it's being performed by a queer woman (The lead singer of The Greeting Committee has written essays about growing up in the lgbtq community) but when she and Peter dance to it at the end of the movie it's sung by a straight woman (Leah Nobel is also the original writer of the song). Also Heather very deliberately doesn't use gendered pronouns when talking about her ex with Lara Jean at the party! I enjoyed the movie overall, but the NYC + Pink Couch scenes just made me yearn for a queer coming of age story about two childhood best friends falling in love in college.
