You are brilliant. You know that:-) I concur with everything you shared in this video, it’s the only explanation for how devastating narcissists are for individuals, families and society.

Prof. Vaknin, you often mention the dead mother phenomenon as a pre condition for the development of the false self. Could you please talk more about the mother who was present and provided safety in childhood, but somehow, "overloved" the child and "overprotected" the child? I used to hear from my mother such things as "You are me, and I am you," and now I see how that served as an injury more than "love" from my mother

my degres are in literature, but i've always been fascinated by Deleuze and Guattari, some of the way you describe the narcissists self remind me of how deleuze writes about 'assemblages' and the 'body with out organs'. Would love to see a video of yours on Capitalism and Schizophrenia, if you think it might be a useful way to explain narcissism.

I'm currently experiencing exactly what hes saying by watching my husband going thru this transformation, and it makes complete sense what's going on, complete change to an unbearable over masculine, ego to the sense of evil...the real self IS a women that gave birth...I understand.. and god....my husband is on a mission to find GOD that he knew in prison by secluding himself in the middle of desert ......my husband went to an extremely dark place with meth 2 years ago facing evil where he crossed lines he says thru sexual perversions by himself....he blames me. this is very scary for me as I understand and I think I really need help. it all is real what's being said here.

Sam, you once said no contact is the only way to effectively deal with narcs. But if narcs externerlise emotions (particularly the ones who cant live without others, but always end up devalueing them), could you then give us an insight as to what goes on in the narcs mind whose grandiosity "prevents" them from taking any responsibility for their actions?

Prodigy... 😳! Leda and the Swan just became a lot less mythological as well. In seriousness, this is an incredible amount of perspective, history and information on concepts being thrown around in popular secular spiritualism. Yikes.

This video is a master piece. I'm mind-blowed. The Von Franz's extract made me think about an analysis of the Hermann Hesse's book Demian in a correspondence with Jung portraying Demian as the shadow of the main character Sinclair, a sort of Castor/Polux, Cain/Abel dynamic, the Immortal and the mortal twins.
At the same time I recalled the term malignant egophrenia used by Jack D. Forbes in his book Columbus and other Cannibals as well as Paul Levy in relation with a sort of psychic virus named wetiko used by indigenous people referring to the colonial mindset, that leads me to question if this separation of the self were imported and imposed since prehispanic or native people never viewed themselves as sinners nor with any shame or guilt considering this so called shadow by the old world's Weltanschauung was already incorporated into their pantheons, where nothingness and mortification were embraced or were they still in the Adamic state you mention?
I apologize if my English is not the best to articulate these concepts, Herr Doktor.
    My regards from Mexico.

Yes, guilt and shame are definitely Judeo-Christian gifts or “gifts”. No one analyzed it better than Nietzsche.
