The sad thing about this story is that the fighter who shot down the plane had to keep telling himself he shot an enemy plane. This is because of the families of the passengers blaming him for what he has done. I honestly understand the fighter, he was just told to do a job. That will last for a life time
He said, when he see the plane for the first time, he already figure out that it was a passenger plane from its light on the tail area. But, he said, a military plane can also do that so now he get confused about it.
This episode in my opinion is really sad because both sides all have sad outcomes, the Soviet Pilot believed that the plane he shot down was a spy plane, he wouldn't have been ordered to shoot down the plane if it was a commercial passenger plane, only if it was a intruder or trespasser. Some families of the victims were blaming the Soviet Pilot because he was the one who pulled the trigger but truth is this accident is a lose-lose situation because really Korean Air 007's crew didn't set the autopilot correctly putting the plane into Soviet airspace by accident, the Soviet Pilot who was at the scene tried to get the plane's attention but had no tracers and that one maneuver the KAL 007 pilots did sealed the fate of everyone onboard, The Soviet Pilots view that maneuver as the plane has been spooked and is considered an enemy plane, he's in a scenario where he has to pull the trigger or let the target go and endanger everybody in his country, so he was given the order to shoot down the plane and as a result the Soviet Pilot pulled the trigger and everyone onboard the plane died.
It really is sad and I feel bad for both sides since the Soviet pilot was blamed for pulling the trigger and half of it wasn’t even his fault. And the Korean passengers and crew didn’t even know they were going to meet their end earlier than they wanted just because of the simplest mistake made by the crew. R.I.P to everyone who died in this tragic event
Obviously the pilot is not at fault, it was the commanders behind that gave te order impulsively, they should have held accountable for killing so many people and committing war crimes because this plane was taken down in international airspace, but now that the minds behind this crime are almost all dead, one only can hope they are suffering eternally in the afterlife.
This is honestly one of those cases where when the missile hit the plane, you'd hope that the passengers and crew were killed instantly. Sadly, it seems that they were alive for quite some time given that the plane actually managed to fly for a little while. My guess is that either the aircraft remained intact until crashing into the sea, killing everyone onboard, or, the jumbo jet broke up in mid air, and everyone onboard died from the explosive decompression.

Korean Air Flight 007 is similar to Japan Airlines Flight 123. Flight 007 was hit by a missile, lost hydraulic pressure, and crashed. The rudder eventually broke and it crashed cruelly.
I think they're more into the different side. JAL 123 crashed due to improper tail maintenance 7 years prior, while KAL 007 broke up mid flight and crashed due to entering prohibited airspace without permission and shot down by a fighter jet who was given orders.
@@Triplane1234 It was actually the fault of the Korean pilots for not setting the autopilot properly leading them to fly off their flightplan and into restricted airspace. Not such a fun fact: this plane crash could have started a nuclear war. Since there were Americans on board the plane and it was shot down by a soviet pilot and because of all the space shuttles in space that were broken an indicator failed and warned that there were more than 100 nukes headed for the Soviet Union. Luckily only some countries part of the Soviet Union heard about this and they thought it was an attack from America because of the shoot down. Those countries were very lucky to not retaliate with more nukes because if they did it could have started a nuclear war. If the rest of the Soviet Union heard about the incident then a nuclear war could have happened. Luckily all of the Soviet Union heard about it being fake so they decided to not send any nukes and because of that there was no nuclear war. This event is still a tragedy and much worse things could have happend. Rest in peace all 269 people on board.

What happened to the Soviet pilot
nothing happend to him i know
he got a fine after the soviet union collasped
He told the truth on the news and when soviet union collapsed they fined him
@@user-kh6is5kr2w : … for telling the truth.
His name Major Gennady Osipovich
This was pilot error,I don’t think it’s the Soviet pilots fault. He was hesitant to fire but the fact that KAL 007 climbed sealed their fate,it looks very familiar to a maneuver. But still,Very tragic.R.I.P all onboard 😢 🙏 🪦
Wrong
@@aron1332 ok 👍
@@aron1332 the Tokyo told them to ascend to save fuel and the olane also went offset earlier, so its the pilot's fault, the fighter just doing his job.
Also he switched the wrong trailing rounds, so uh, yeah we have both side to blame, but the Soviet still got it all.
*Tokyo Ground Control
It wasn't the fighter pilot's fault, and it wasn't the 007's pilot's fault. The person responsible is the guy that told the pilot to shoot it down.

I don't understand how the Soviets couldn't correctly identify the plane. They had a fighter flying right next to it, and couldn't identify it?
The thought it was a spy plane in disguise. The fighter pilot knew it was a civilian airliner, but it he higher ups told him to shoot it down anyway
I always mistake this for Korean air cargo flight 1805
Rip 269 innocent souls
Korean Air Flight 007 is similar to Japan Airlines Flight 123. Flight 007 was hit by a missile, lost hydraulic pressure, and crashed. The rudder eventually broke and it crashed cruelly.
but 123 crashed because of a tail not a missile
I think they're more into the different side. JAL 123 crashed due to improper tail maintenance 7 years prior, while KAL 007 broke up mid flight and crashed due to entering prohibited airspace without permission and shot down by a fighter jet who was given orders.
I think the fighter pilot deserves sympathy because he was following orders and protecting his country bro.
PROTECTING his country from an UNARMED CIVILIAN AIRLINER?? How does that work??
@@user-qf8iz5tz7e :(
@@Triplane1234 It was actually the fault of the Korean pilots for not setting the autopilot properly leading them to fly off their flightplan and into restricted airspace. The fighter pilots higher ups had difficulties identifying the aircraft but did not want to take risks due to Cold War tensions. I'd put 90% of the blame on the Korean pilots

Korean air, 801 idown love song ganti lagu kecelakaan Korean air 801
I’m no expert but isn’t there a tail light for a reason? Maybe to show the Korean airline logo? Isn’t there something called windows that line the entire plane? Isn’t there something called a Boeing 747 which is cargo and civilian designed? Wow, they do amazing in teaching soviets how to use 2 eyes and a brain.
Enemy planes started putting tail lights to confuse other pilots. It was the korean air pilots fault for going off radar.
very sad, cuz the fighter jet pilot, realized that he shot an innocent plane😞

I have been uploading the news about the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123 for the past two years.
The missile conspiracy theory continues to circulate, but could this accident also be a trigger for conspiracy theories?
그러니까 근본적인 원인은 대한항공 조종사 실수 때문이네
