Good work Darkness! I'm actually writing a novel too. Wanted to for a long time, but couldn't maintain the drive to finish. But lately it feels like I'm FINALLY turning a corner and getting the discipline I need to finish some of what I start. (Still have to finish that friggin' Let's Play of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat that I started a year and a half ago and quoted you in!) Three cheers for creativity and discipline!! :)

I love AoD. It may have one tomb. But it's the best tomb ever. Best costume. Best music. And best potential story in the whole series. The tomb is so good. Way better than anything else in the Tomb Raider franchise. And levels like the Louvre Galleries and Aquatic Research Area are amazing.

as a child, i never realised the flaws, i loved tomb raider and this story was amazing. the sanitarium i cried at because it scared me so much. i hope square enix remakes this and continues the trilogy. the only flaw i noticed was in the parisian ghetto when laras hair would stretch across my screen XD but still, fun game... my only problem was that, no dual pistols -___-
As a child, I rented this game a long time ago. This was actually my first Tomb Raider experience... I can't believe I bought Anniversary after I played this one, years later -and I ended up loving that game :D
I have to say that I hate the tank controls, because I got used to Legend's controls, so playing the newer games first made me hate the older games... I can still apreciate the oldies, but I can't get into them.
Does anybody know what the song is that plays from 2:38 to 2:52? Whatever it is, it's absolutely PERFECT for the moment it was placed in during the video! Props to you for that hilarious selection Darkness! Also, Wayne Knight's "Ah ah ah" photo from Jurassic Park is a really nice touch! :)
AOD had a lot of potential. If they would have had time to finish it properly, it could've been one of the best.

I've got to agree. Underworld felt like it had a lot of potential, and for a while I really liked it, but...
If only Lara would control properly! I'm not sure who controls worse: AOD Lara or Underworld Lara. Underworld Lara is like trying to control a hyperactive child on drugs.

AOD, while unplayable, buggy and flawed, is one of my favourites. I played this with my Mum and Dad (hardly played myself at the time), so I never understood why they hated it. I feel really bad now, because I begged them to keep playing for me and they despised every second of it (they actually beat it!). PS. Legend is brilliant, possibly my favourite.
I was stupid back in 2003 because I was 10 and I didn't know about the reviews. It was Tomb Raider but it wasn't.
How do you feel about Official Playstation Magazine giving this an 8/10?

I remember you putting the first one on your list of top games of 2009 back on your "Mr. Sanity" channel. I'm kind of curious of what you think of the sequel, and a review of the original could be cool too.

I bought this game a couple of years ago from a used bin at Gamestop for 3 bucks. (Btw, I never grew up with Tomb Raider. I knew it existed, but I didn't know much about it.) Even though the game disk didn't have any scratches on it, the game never worked for me.
After seeing this review, I'm guessing it was a sign.

Both of those requests have been fulfilled. Sonic 2006 has four parts and it's 2 and a half hours long. Darkness also did a MegaMan retrospective on every series of MegaMan.
This game was the first game I have ever played on ps2 , I was only 5 or 6, and I honestly loved it (: when she said im not strobg enough I would laugh and look for ways to make her stronger, I still love the tomb raider games and.p.s alot of video games dont have logic xD

Man do I have a history with this damn game! It was the first Tomb Raider game I ever played and bought. I think it had just come out when I bought it from GameStop and before then, I hadn't really heard about the Tomb Raider series. When I got it and started playing it, I rage-quitted on the second level and took that piece of shit back. Luckily GameStop was having a sale and I traded it in for two games: Sonic Mega Collection Plus (which I still own to this day) and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi (which I have traded since then after getting Tenkaichi 2 and 3). Luckily I own the Tomb Raider Trilogy on PS3 and now I love Tomb Raider :D

I liked AOD i enjoyed it alot more than the shitty reboot from 2013. The controls you just have to get used to in TR6. That's all it takes. I found the controls in parts 1 through 8 including the remake easy to control lara.
***** Quite frankly compared to the 6 classic TR games the Crystal dynamics ones weren't that great I mean the only TR's of the franchise that are worthy of perfect scores IMO are Tomb Raiders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. In the crystal games the classic feel is gone starting with legend and i felt that was disappointing. I grew up playing core's TR games. And it's quite sad that classic lara has been gone for over 12 years.
***** The only games i enjoyed are the core design ones and TR Anniversary and underworld were disappointing IMO and so were Legend and the reboot.

***** To be fair, the people creating AoD had been pushed around like cattle by their publisher from the very first Tomb Raider. This was where the strain look its toll. If you look past its obvious flaws, this is a fantastic ambition of a game. It's beautiful, complex and creative. There was a lot of effort put in. If only it had been finished (they had even more locations planned), or at least polished in its current state, it had the potential to be one of the greatest games in the series. Too bad the team didn't have any room to breathe. And the poor leadership due to key members being absent, who were assigned to making the redundant TR5, was the final nail in the coffin :/
Now we have the 2013 reboot, which is a rehash of every uncreative modern gaming trope ever. I sure hope ROTTR at least reverts to the intelligence the original series had.

the long ass comment i wrote on the other tomb raider review, you say it in one simple sentence here: it just feels wrong. everything after aod in my opinion but i guess i only like this one because its from core design and i just love all they did with tomb raider, and i think if they would have still developed, well, THEIR game, then it would still be kind of tomb raider today, at least the feeling would be there because i feel like crystal dynamics really knows what they're doing, just not with tomb raider..
And they will never dare to re-release this game...EVER! It's the only Tomb Raider game they NEVER put on another platform...for a good reason!

because the plot involved a evil group of people trying to revive a race of Nemphlim, demons (dark angels)
The friend from trlr was meant to be in place of Werner. Except he was based on a very real person and didn’t like being in a game so they couldn’t use him going forward. The story makes more sense if you use that context. It’s a shame. I would of liked to play this with the ideas and all locations fully realised. Instead of so much being chopped and not making sense or being simply broken
A lot of the concept art shows a much better experience was planned before they scrapped their initial build. It really is a shame because it could have been so much better had more time been given.
Man, Core didn't have time to make TRAOD ! If you know, Angel Of Darkness is an uncompleted game (wich is a shame), just because Eidos forced core to finish it !
If you search on youtube for the Beta levels, you will know what core was about to do. Actually AOD was a really potencial game !
Oh, also, Parisian Back Streets was supposed to be the triple as it is.
If you know, there is an unfinished area on that level, that you can found it on the pc version... (They are under the lock doors)

Tomb raider legend is better than angel of darkness
well yea "Angel of Darkness" is not even the fucking TOMB RAIDER that we played, controls are freaking disgasting and camera angles are like "omg man serious?, how the fuck I should jump over there if i cannot see"..and story..story is like " yea lets just put this here and yea it would seem logica" -l..too 5years old maybe....I played the game just because Iam a fan of Tomb Raider series but seriously I wont be playing it twice for a good of my nerves..xD..good rev. btw ,keep it up
I loved the story for TR6, but what bugged me A LOT was the overall gameplay engine for it. The limited time on hanging on ledges, the controls being broken, and there being tons of glitches. At the time, I disliked it. Partially because of how different it had been... ._. So, until TRL, I actually strayed away from TR for 3-4 long years, and got into other franchises (even when I played TR, I still got into new franchises, but still)

This game is quite bad. It’s so unfinished. The transitions in the dialogues, the empty levels, the clucky controls, the “I need to get stronger” stupid crap, the lack of enemies and guns. Only good thing? The music, some graphics, and atmosphere, the louvre idea, and that’s it. It has a cult following but I dont understand why, I normally support underdogs but as a fan of the original games i was very disappointed.

I rather played Core's AOD than Crystal's Legend to Underworld, because honestly... Crystal changed hardcore and independent Lara Croft into as weak and feminine side Barbie version of Lara Croft including the story itself. And... 2013? I only enjoy the gameplay itself, but not diaper crying baby and struggles in the island scenes of it. It just makes me laugh because the real Lara we know would never said "I hate Tombs" or cries like a big diaper baby :P lol
Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness is a very bad game. No joke. Tomb Raider Anniversary is a great remake of the first Tomb Raider for next gen hardware at the time. (Xbox 360/PS3) Tomb Raider Legend is a bit of a weak entry, but still good. Tomb Raider Underworld is a really good game and is awesome to play through. I can see why people hate the reboot/origins trilogy, but it's not a bad series of games.
It's actually a very good game, I guess someone who dresses like a Scottish hobo has a right for it not to appeal to them.
