  • I'm repotting my Serissa japonica bonsai.
    This tree was last repotted in Aug 2021 and is styled in the Pierneef form, to resemble an African Acacia tree.

    Serissa does nice for me in the summer months. Winter, dies in my basement conditions. Yours is always a masterpiece. I always like watching you work on this one.

    Good choice on the oval pot for the tree. Not only does the flat expanse of the shallow pot emphasize the Serengeti vibe, the trunk movement is echoed nicely by the soft curving arc of the container walls. Never realized how sharp the corners of the rectangular pots jarred the view!
    Looking forward to that killer view from below up through the canopy when it ramifies and fills in again.

    This is really a superb tree & screams Nigel Saunders at me. The meticulous care with this particular bonsai throughout it's bonsai journey is a joy to behold and has taught me me an awful lot with regard to root work, canopy progression, landscaping and pot selection. This tree has got it all! Wonderful! Thank You.

    I agree that the larger pot really makes it look like an Acacia, in the smaller rectangular pot it was “just a tree”

    It sure does love you and your care, that tree! It took to that shape/styling very well. Looks great in that pot. I think it would look great in almost any pot LOL

    I liked the green pot before and of course it looks good on the Tokoname pot as well, but I think you made the right choice with that wider landscape pot! Looks very nice 🙂

    Amazing how nature works. Look at how well the Zebra is camoflaged against turface/perlite Savanah! This is a favorite tree of mine, and I know how you feel about it. This is the repotting that will give this tree its (almost) forever home.

    Nigel, your serissa continues to be an exceptional tree and specimen! Question: Many bonsai practitioners will initially cut off a bottom “mat” of roots or very long ones they know they will not be keeping. Do you have any thoughts about that technique when repotting a tree with vigorous, generous, or even a bound, root base? Are there any particular risks to doing root work and pruning that way?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 месяца назад +1

      I think that technique is fine on established trees, as long as you know where the roots are and what you are cutting off!!!

    8:06 Nigel, do you use anything extra in you soil mix for this tree?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 месяца назад

      No, just perlite and safety sorb!!

  • @Jose-J-U

    • @TheBonsaiZone
