- I'm repotting my Serissa japonica bonsai.
This tree was last repotted in Aug 2021 and is styled in the Pierneef form, to resemble an African Acacia tree.

Ha ha Nigel, i think you got to the Root of the problem !!!! ..
Serissa does nice for me in the summer months. Winter, dies in my basement conditions. Yours is always a masterpiece. I always like watching you work on this one.
Thanks again Tom!!!
great choise for the pot i love the new life u gave to these tree in the last month
Thanks so much!!
Good choice on the oval pot for the tree. Not only does the flat expanse of the shallow pot emphasize the Serengeti vibe, the trunk movement is echoed nicely by the soft curving arc of the container walls. Never realized how sharp the corners of the rectangular pots jarred the view!
Looking forward to that killer view from below up through the canopy when it ramifies and fills in again.
Thanks so much, I agree!! It's beginning to grow now, nice to see!!
This is really a superb tree & screams Nigel Saunders at me. The meticulous care with this particular bonsai throughout it's bonsai journey is a joy to behold and has taught me me an awful lot with regard to root work, canopy progression, landscaping and pot selection. This tree has got it all! Wonderful! Thank You.
Hi Nigel, beautiful pots and afcourse beautiful tree . I admire this tree for years and to me that's one of your best trees.👍
Nigel, I really like this one! In my opinion, one of your nicest looking repots that I've seen you do.
Many thanks!
Magnificent tree
I agree that the larger pot really makes it look like an Acacia, in the smaller rectangular pot it was “just a tree”
I'm really liking the new pot, I can't wait to landscape the tree!!!
It sure does love you and your care, that tree! It took to that shape/styling very well. Looks great in that pot. I think it would look great in almost any pot LOL
Amazing root bound structure…
I liked the green pot before and of course it looks good on the Tokoname pot as well, but I think you made the right choice with that wider landscape pot! Looks very nice 🙂
Awesome root pruning...I really love the look with the new pot...The oval shape really compliments the tree . ❤❤❤
Thanks Dave!!
Amazing how nature works. Look at how well the Zebra is camoflaged against turface/perlite Savanah! This is a favorite tree of mine, and I know how you feel about it. This is the repotting that will give this tree its (almost) forever home.
Yes, I think this pot will be it's home for a while!!! Thanks Steve!!
Beautiful canopy on that one . That's gonna grow nice into that pot. 🦓 Awesome 😎
Another good video but for once I might have to say I liked the other pot a little more. Such an incredible tree :)
The glaze seemed perfect! It was looking a bit small at this time. But a MOST beautiful, wonderful tree!!!
Ah yes, this is still my favorite of your trees. Oof-da, those roots tho. So amazing. This pot is nice for the tree. So much inspiration! I’m fired up. Can’t wait to see it in a few months.
Thanks so much 😊
Bravo!
I still love the original pot. This one will take some getting used to. 🙈
Thanks, I think once it gets moss and sand on the landscape it will look much better!!
Nigel thanks for this video . Greeting from the Netherlands
Thank you!!! Greetings!!
Awesome knowledge 😮😮😮😮
This is a fantastic example of these trees Nigel, i have a verigated one. Its nothing compared to yours but its coming alone nicely. 😊

Many thanks!!!
Satisfying and educational
Your videos are top notch, good sir.
Thank you kindly!!!
I've always admired this tree, but I'm a bit unsure if I'm ready to deal with a Serissa's root systems quite yet.
Me encanta....tiene una increíble corteza.
Buen trabajo, Nigel
Salud!
The tree is looking really good now. I definitely like the extra room you’ve given it in the oval pot. ❤
Thanks!

Hi Nigel. So nice! What do you have in your soil now, looks like you’re now using lava rocks?
Excellent tree as per usual ❤
Thank you! 😊
Nigel, your serissa continues to be an exceptional tree and specimen! Question: Many bonsai practitioners will initially cut off a bottom “mat” of roots or very long ones they know they will not be keeping. Do you have any thoughts about that technique when repotting a tree with vigorous, generous, or even a bound, root base? Are there any particular risks to doing root work and pruning that way?
I think that technique is fine on established trees, as long as you know where the roots are and what you are cutting off!!!
😍🌳
👍👌👌
8:06 Nigel, do you use anything extra in you soil mix for this tree?
No, just perlite and safety sorb!!
Could you tell me what type of substrate you have added? it's pearlite
It's perlite and safety sorb, a fired clay particle!!
