Sometimes the most unexpected of routes can take you to the best destinations *Also- thanks for all the suggestions about getting replacement bearings. In theory, this would have worked but the seals are specific to the pump (and are incredibly vital to stop salt water flooding into the engine) which we couldn’t source out here and we couldn’t risk that happening (AGAIN lol). So, we wanted to go with another pump and get the old one reconditioned so we had a full spare of everything for future passages.
Oh wow, only 4k to go before you hit the Big Time! Be sure and have a party worthy of the event, you earned it. And you know.... if you ever really fall in love with a place, why not go with it? Its not like you have a schedule to keep, eh?
This is the correct move mate. It’s easy to rebuild once you’ve got the parts and then you will have a full spare to bolt in in 20 minutes for next time. Mine lasts around 400 hours before either the inner or outer seal goes.
Restless heart, it has been a long time Out here on the journey, for a glimpse of paradise It's getting hard to find a place to go Where peaceful waters flow I took a walk past the old saxon well Down by the cathedral, I heard the chapel bell And joined the people singing for a way to go Where peaceful waters flow And if you don't know by now, you never will Only love can find the door If you could see it now, it's in your hands Only love can reach the shore, to heaven Always, she is standing by my side She's my inspiration, and she's my battle-cry And in her arms is the only place I know Where peaceful waters flow written by Chris De Burgh.
There are lots of different ‘limon’ fruits here in Central America. Typical are Tangerine lemon, Messian lemon, Greenli lemon, Creole lemon, all with different flavours, between lime and lemon and almost to orange. What you showed there are local oranges.
The grander of nature and the beauty of kindness and generosity shown in the episode brought a grumpy old Yorkshire lad to tears… I can’t thank you enough…
Everything is fine, until it is not fine. You have me in tears sitting in my vehicle in the mountains of Colorado. Thank you Zach and Becka and your amazing host rescue team.
Wow a fellow Coloradoan meeting in the comments of this amazing video. Such a beautiful place we have and in this video as well. What an amazing world we live in . Colorado Springs!!!!
The unexpected journeys are often the best. Years later you will have forgotten the beautiful sunset, but these days in a small community in the middle of nowhere you will remember for ever. Wonderful story
What a beautiful location, incredibly warm and friendly people. Although not ideal having your engine broken, it’s given you time to just slow down and take in all the wonderful senses of the Panama rain forest. As you say the local villagers have very little, but are willing to do anything for you. It’s quite a beautiful thing to see. Well done you two for editing and narrating a stunning piece of work. It was a pleasure to watch.👏👏👏
Hi Guys! Excellent episode as always! Thank you for sharing your life with us! I know it is impossible to have spare parts for everything that can possibly go wrong but a great backup plan is to have is a pair of calipers. That way you can accurately measure things like bearings, shafts, bolts, holes, etc. Once you have those measurements you can often find what you need locally. The bearing in your water pump is most likely a common size which could probably be found in Panama City fairly easily. The other option would be to take your pump with you to the city and stop at a machine shop where they can often work miracles fixing things quickly and relatively cheaply. Less developed countries often have the most incredible machinists who are used to making things work with whatever they happen to be able to get hold of. For instance they might have a bearing that is just a touch larger or smaller O.D. so they could either bore the bearing hole in your housing to fit or make a sleeve, press the new bearing in and Voila! New water pump! Keep in mind that a water pump is a very simple device. The exorbitant cost is in the castings which are perfectly fine. The rest of it is just a few bearings, a shaft, a rubber impeller and maybe a gasket. Hope this helps! Fair winds, following seas and all the best from California! 🧡
SV Delos have had some amazing experiences, finding out-of-the-way workshops, where they were able to get things repaired easily and cheaply. On at least one occasion, being allowed to do the work themselves, on someone's expensive machinery. Our Planet is an amazing place, with amazing people, who will drop everything, to help others in need. Cheers, Russ. UK
Cant believe how far you have come from the very beginning.... Working in the boat yard, to your first sea trial sail, and to this... Be proud, youve done some great things and this is only a speed bump in the road of life.
I suspect this is redundant, but felt it important to mention. That pump is LIKELY rebuildable in a place where parts can be purchased. The seals and bearings are very likely just stock parts that don't need to be sourced through the engine manufacturer. The shaft can be pressed out, new bearings and seals installed, and you'll have a fully serviced spare for next time.
Yes. Looks like it may be a Sherwood Pump. Rebuild kits are available but they may not include the bearing or shaft seal. Bearing is a simple ball bearing. Measure the OD, ID and width. Any good bearing website will no doubt give you several manufactures. Shop around. A few years ago I had to replace several bearing much large than that but prices ranged from about 12USD to over 80 USD for the same bearing and mfg.
You absolutely nailed the introduction to this episode! Good job! When you put all your feelings into it through the kindness of your heart. Happy adventures await you. ❤ 😊

Hi Zack and Becka. God, the boat is looking so good 👌. Sorry to see you in trouble with your engine. Great job, Zack, for dealing with things considering the pressure you were under. That place is absolutely beautiful 💯🥰. If you're going to get stuck, then you could not have picked a better place, lol. Anyway, good luck with the boat, you guys. 👌👍👏🇮🇪
Oh what a blessing of such an adventure! LOVED, loved, loved this video for so many reasons…human connection, stunning scenery, life of the locals, and I listened to the mesmerizing sounds of the jungle over and over. Simply beautiful!💙

Thank you for sharing this part of your journey in such a preciously pure way. Keep in touch and let me know how I can help Kennedy and his family from my part of the world in Ottawa, Canada. Safe sailing!
This was a wonderful episode for so many reasons. From the profound insight about "leaning in" to whatever lifes throws at you rather than getting frustrated or fighting it, through to the wonderful kindness and reciprocity shown to you and by you with the local family, to the growing mechanical comfort you have with dealing with the inevitable vissicitudes of life on a boat with so many systems and potential breakages, to the wonderful montage towards the end of the video (great music choice by the way) which conveyed so perfectly what it is like to cruise, to anchor in beautiful places with spectacular sunsets, and to enjoy living in nature where the land meets the sea. Your video craft is growing in parallel to your cruising skills and confidence, and it's a joy to come along on the journey with you. Thank-you for the hard work that goes in to making theses videos.

Amazing episode guys, life affirming and such an experience. This is proper cruising, off the beaten track and going where the fancy takes you and the circumstances dictate. Making good of a difficult situation. Wonderful, nothing more to say…. Andy UK
Beautiful journey in this episode. This is unquestionably one of the most beautifully moody places. The locals, along with the Canadian, were incredibly kind. Perhaps you should frame that bean and call it a virtue. You know, all you had to do was blow into your sail, and the gust would have cleared out the stale air, and sent you flying past this gorgeous island retreat! 😂
Hey guys been watching for a while. I really enjoy y’all’s videos and all the remote places y’all find yourselves in. My wife and I travel a lot and through our travels I have to always remind myself to slow down and be in the moment. Life flys by so fast and it’s important to be happy with what u have and not sad about what you don’t. Our lives are so lucky and fragile and seeing how people live in some places is so humbling. Lucky for sure Becca lucky. Safe travels y’all.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It's amazing how travel can open our eyes to the world around us. Slowing down and being in the moment is the best!
You two are awesome, wonderful response to challenges and more importantly to see the respectful and genuine interactions with people who don't have all that much to spare. May your channel grow the way you want it to. Best wishes.
Great episode, nicely edited. Always good to see how people are living around the world and interactions with locals are the best parts of sailing channels. I remember a similar family in a Sailing Atticus episode.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but the channel “Sailing Seawind” has a yet to be released patron video where they were approached in the same anchorage recently by the same family and received the same marvelous treatment. Kennedy’s son I believe whose name is Octavio showed the same excitement for being able to use Parker and Katie’s Starlink. There was also an older gentleman in his 80s. I don’t know if you met him, but he also was on board Seawind or Boundless as their new boat is called. In exchange for various services fruits, etc. he asked if they had any used clothes they would like to get rid of which of course they did. I’m sure this is much like the way things were done back in the 1500s friendly bartering.
What a beautiful video, thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It was meant to be - broken engine whilst becalmed and a tow into a stunning anchorage for two weeks. A blessing in disguise - but I do hope the engine part arrives ok 👍
Fantastic production, beautiful edit, deeply inspiring content…….. just wonderful……. You two have such a positive impact on the world….. keep charging, keep travelling, keep inspiring, keep recording and keep sharing
And just like that you found paradise. This planet is beautiful and there are still beautiful people to be met. Thank you for sharing your journey of exploration.
You are so lucky to have each other. That you also have the practical inspiration and humanity is such a clear differentiation between the circular power of politics and the vertical needs of everyday life and shows empathy and kindness. Frankly I feel quite humbled by your video. Thank you so much, David
Go to the local bearing and seal store, take the pump with you. They can supply you a new bearing and new seals. Have them take out the little springs in the seals and replace the springs with rubber orings. The springs are not designed for salt water, this standard practice here in Mexico. Cost might be $20- 30 dollars.
This has to be the most emotional and impressive record of your journey so far. To receive a Croeso like you have experienced is so impressive. Nice things should happen to nice people and I hope that the family you met gain success from your helpful promotion. Really enjoying your journey. From Steve & Gill from Gorseinon currently cruising the islands of Atlantic France.
Wow! Your Life and Luck never ceases to amaze me. It says something about the Human Race, that total strangers will help other total strangers, who are in need of their help. One of the regrets of my life, is that due to the negativity of my father towards 'foreigners', I grew up distrusting people and that followed me through life for many years; not helped by the fact I am Autistic, with all the problems that brings. When I think of all the places I never visited, because I had communication problems, I wonder how many experiences I could - and should - have had, but didn't, due to my fear of others. Now I'm too old and infirm to find out what I've missed out on. Thankfully, I have you and Teulu - and also Delos - to follow and enjoy. I hope you get your engine fixed shortly, so that you can continue your adventures. Fair Winds, Russ.
I don't know that disease, but ... You could travel with someone else who know you disease, and be the comm person for you. Let someone else help you: Travel agents could be helpful, they know a lot. Just ask. You can start by writing an email, if that is easier for you.
Fantastic video guys! 👏 I've been fortunate enough to travel to many countries and from what I've seen we the people are all the same: kind, generous and friendly. This is the exact opposite of what is portrayed by the mainstream media, whose job is to instill fear and mistrust between as many "different" groups as possible. May God bless you on your journey and help you bring the truth of who we all really are to people everywhere. Fair winds! Chris 👍
So look forward to your videos! I watch a few sailing channels and I think many may miss the views as the destination is most important. I think just “stopping and smelling the roses” as you are doing is the best. Enjoy the journey!!
Such a beautiful video, I’ve just watched it twice. What a wonderful family to of found and friends you have around you. To breakdown is a pain but in Paradise was a bonus. It reminds you that when in beautiful anchorages why rush. Take care you two. Hopefully water pump is all mended, glad you have a source of parts from Old Blighty. All the very best to you both. Maybe by Monday we can get you to 100k.
What a great episode. Really nice to see the rescue and you getting to know the people. Hopefully they will see more visitors following your beautiful video and publicity. Hope you get the bearing sorted, but am sure you can put up with the scenery where you are for a bit 😊
I think i came at the perfect time. Ive watched a ton of sailing channels but this has to be the most beautiful place ive ever seen. And you have a new subscriber. I am going to watch from the beginning. It almost doesn't look real. It looks Jurassic Parkish. Glad to be here
What an amazing and heart warming story of yours! People helping people no matter where you are. It's a very humbling thing to have happen to anyone, actually. We never know when we could break down in the middle of nowhere, despite and vulnerable to any kind of situation. Yet, life goes on for all of us, no matter where we live or travel. Thank you so much for sharing this. It really tugs at your, (my) heart strings. Be safe always from the Philippines.
I have watched all your videos in last few days. There was a shot on your way to the river that might have been the prettiest you have looked. You can see the exciting and wonder on your face and the song was perfect. Cheers and save travels
It was possibly Sailing Seawind on Boundlas that you got ahold of on starlink. KATIE AND Parker just left there for Costa Rica. Nice young couple out of Lake Erie in the Great Lakes. They also were treated like royalty by this wonderful family.
Ya will most likely have to Rebuild Engine if ya cannot get that Pump fixed before ya make the Crossing…Probably “Big Bucks” Involved☹️ Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy 😎
Having a spare pump would be a great thing. I usually have a spare pump as well as a couple of sets of bearings and seals. So I can replace the entire pump (fastest job), then rebuild the broken one (slowest job) and carry it as a spare.
Glad to see that someone helped rescue you. It definitely appears that you are in a beautiful and minimally touched area of the world. I know so little about this area, so it really captured my interest. The jungle sounds while travelling the river were wonderful. The kids must have been totally amazed at seeing your drone.
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. Once a bearing is not smooth and round any longer it will not last more than a very short time. when the bearing lets loose then it will spread bits of metal throughout, and other parts invariably sustain damage. You made the correct choice to not risk further damage by continuing on. You wisely avoided possibly putting yourself in a bad position.
Wow, what an experience. One I’m sure you will never forget. Kudos to you both for adapting to your circumstances with such humble and philosophical ease. You both are becoming even more wise beyond your years from all your experiences.
I love that your story is still going strong. So many adventures . Ups and downs you do it together . Beautiful views on this video . Thanks for sharing your story .Well done guys xx

Blog? vlog? video? whatever. Another Yorkshire lad here reduced to tears. I was in Gambia a couple of times in the early 90's and my deepest memory is of how happy some folk were with so very little. Massive life lesson.
Firstly another great adventure, I always watch your videos with envy. I get your comment about the recon unit, but I would still get hold of a chart for single row deep groove bearing sizes, for the future if any other bearings go, also it would be very rare indeed for a manufacturer to use a non standard seal. (of course they will say it is specific to that pump, they want you to purchase from them) Every adventure is a lesson learned somewhere along the way, keep up the great films
Change your oil multiple times in very 10 hours or so. Because of the of the mechanical failures on your engine. You most likely have very fine metal particulates thur out the engine that will continue to wear like sandpaper on all the internal moving parts. In the aircraft industry after a failure we send the oil filter to a company and they can tell you what's wearing. Be safr you two kid's!
Sometimes the most unexpected of routes can take you to the best destinations *Also- thanks for all the suggestions about getting replacement bearings. Out here on the journey, for a glimpse of paradise
It's getting hard to find a place to go
Where peaceful waters flow
I took a walk past the old saxon well
Down by the cathedral, I heard the chapel bell
And joined the people singing for a way to go
Where peaceful waters flow
And if you don't know by now, you never will
Only love can find the door
If you could see it now, it's in your hands
Only love can reach the shore, to heaven
Always, she is standing by my side
She's my inspiration, and she's my battle-cry

Crazy to think that you could have a pump custom machined out of inconel cheaper and quicker than you could get a factory replacement from Panama.

Wow, what a gorgeous episide. I absolutely take my hat off to you both. The end scenes and the music linking them were beyond good. Thank you!
Very much enjoyed your video with the family showing such hospitality to you two. Your friendly demeanor inspires trust.
Truely the best episode yet! Such beautiful people that you have come upon. You are “Bloody doing this” at a much more leisurely pace. Enjoy it!
You both do a great job of making lemonade from lemons! Always an adventure! Keep up the great adventures and I’ll keep following!😊
What anchorage is that? Not ready to cruise yet buttttt getting there.
Incredible story in this episode 😍😍😍
Thank you so much for appreciating the story in this episode!
Bloody hell great music beautiful scenery taking us to places alot of use wouldn't on top of a bloody amazing story thankyou
This rather depends on your definition of local.
19:53 was very heartwarming! Love that outlook and perspective, Zach!
Such an excellent episode! Thanks!
My new favorite RUclips channel! Always looking forward to Monday.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for watching and looking forward to Mondays 😁
A broken part leads to an amazing place and video. With production like this no wonder your subs are up there.
The far away road less traveled can bring you to sweet destinations forever close to your heart.
The drone shots are always amazing!
Thanks! Thank you so much for this adventure!
Thanks for watching! It's all about savoring the moments and having fun on this sailing adventure. Enjoy the ride! 😊
Epic stuff guys, finding connection at the end of real adventure ✊🏻
What a great episode. Really nice to see the rescue and you getting to know the people.
Hopefully they will see more visitors following your beautiful video and publicity.
Hope you get the bearing sorted, but am sure you can put up with the scenery where you are for a bit 😊
Fingers crossed they do, they are all so kind!
Bloody brilliant, what a pleasure.😎
I think i came at the perfect time. Ive watched a ton of sailing channels but this has to be the most beautiful place ive ever seen. And you have a new subscriber. I am going to watch from the beginning. It almost doesn't look real. It looks Jurassic Parkish. Glad to be here
Water pumps usually have a double bearing and when the seal wears out it allows salt water into the first bearing
Bad luck with the engine and the result is this nice video showing you sure made the right choice how to live your life!
Love you kids! Glad Stuart is able to send the part you need. Safe travels. ❤

What a great episode, thanks guys
What an amazing episode and such a lovely family... their AirBNB is going on my short list! Thank you for sharing and caring
Wow, way to convert the problem into a treasure. Great video work too.
First class, rescued, problem identified, replacement on its way, such lovely people to have on hand 🥰 NZ
Blessings!
Yours is SUCH a good story!
That’s one of your best episodes yet . Well done guys 👌
wow! I love your hearts to serve!
Superb storytelling, lovely photography and skilful unobtrusive editing. You're getting quite good at this!
What an adventure! Challenging times bring forth rewarding experiences.😊
It’s always so calming and relaxing to watch the content you keep on creating. Thank you for sharing your adventures and thank you for the vibe you are bringing on screen. Love your style 👍
One of your most beautiful blogs ... in very many ways.
Blog? vlog? video? whatever. Another Yorkshire lad here reduced to tears. I was in Gambia a couple of times in the early 90's and my deepest memory is of how happy some folk were with so very little. Massive life lesson.
How good was that, thanks🌿
Firstly another great adventure, I always watch your videos with envy.
I get your comment about the recon unit, but I would still get hold of a chart for single row deep groove bearing sizes, for the future if any other bearings go, also it would be very rare indeed for a manufacturer to use a non standard seal. (of course they will say it is specific to that pump, they want you to purchase from them)
Every adventure is a lesson learned somewhere along the way, keep up the great films
