Mind is blown by Yoshinari's drawing ability. How can he draw so well with pencil paper and not smudge or sweat on it. I know my hand would make a pool of sweat, being all nervous and shit lol.
sweating hands is rare,,, plus if your hands are sweating..there is a special type of glove like an accessory that most animators use...or just use Cintiq...
Eh I don't think any trained artist will be nervous, that's not his special skill, but his power lies in being an amazing animator

Fascinating documentary. Since it was in 2013, I am surprised they do not use a graphic tablet for the rough animation / Lay out. Instead they are using pencil and paper. So it means that they have to scan the result ? Is this an artistic choice ?
To put it simply, doing the animation in pencils is just a cultural thing for anime. They still do it in pencils because it's how they've been done for decades. Some productions do use tablets, but hand-drawn is still the most popular way to go in Japan.
There are ways digital tools have streamlined production of animation, but pencils are still how it's mainly done.
(Also some have the opinion that a fully digitally-produced anime would look too artificial.)

is there only 1 animation director or more?
Typically for TV anime, there is at least 1 AD per episode. Occasionally, there could be 2 or more.
For movies, there could be as much as 5 or 10 AD.
For LWA: The Enchanted Parade, they had only 1 AD with 3 assistant ADs.
That's why I want to study in Japan all about anime and manga try become an animator 😉 They are great. Fascinating and inspiring 😁 👍 Anime is one way to express the culture of Japan 😁👍♥️✌️🧐🎱⏳💡

Somebody tell that producer to get the heck away from Yoshinari's desk, its obvious the guy knows what he's doing, and great art takes time so let him do what he wants. You gut a respect a great animator like this. My only problem with the film, is I wish the characters could just be drawn more complex and realistic in the faces.
That producer is his wife lol. She worked with him for the first film and with Gurren Lagann. The video even mentioned that they purposefully didn't choose a realistic character design with this anime as they're going for a whimsical style.

Haha by increasing frame rate to 60 fps will double entire work (a.k.a budget) on the project. I don't think so it will be happen in anime industry very soon.
I guess it's a troll but honnestly I found that japanese anime series are often way better animated than eastern cartoon series. (Not saying that cartoons are shit, just that japanimation had reach an incredible level for the budget they have.)
Oh my god. I studied animation and visual arts. I know my shit. Frame skipping is a thing, sure, but they skip TOO MANY FRAMES IN ANIME. It's because of cheap and mass production in the Japanese market. Compare it to ''western anime'' like The Last Airbender and you'll see a huge improvement. Classic anime used to be higher in quality, with the prime example being Akira.
Mouth and head animations are significantly cheaped out on because of dubs and because it's cheap. Same for eye blinking.
I'm speaking of literal frames in animation. YOU people have no fucking clue what you're talking about, you fucking weebs.
