The ducks did something I didn't expect - they add more depth to that image because they're darker than the background shapes. The lone tree however is a real winner to me, it seems to be yearning for the light on the distant mountain. Great stuff!
Those runs and the tailings of the slate quarry looked very interesting in the video - might have made good subjects. Ducks on a lake are never too distracting.
That first image feels like a real transformation in the level of your work, Thomas. I'm biased because I am primarily a B&W photographer and I think all of the images today might be better handled in B&W, but the first one really felt like a step up to another level compared to the (overall excellent) work you normally produce. Well done.
That's the beauty of art: it is completely subjective. I myself really think every other image was far better and that this first image would have a lot of potential if it only were in colour. That said the B/W shot still is beautiful - the others are just way more pleasing to my eye
I love a good ol misty morning, my memories from visiting wales is an hired M series BMW (free upgrade) tight roads lined with stone walls. and eating curry in the south of wales with hot chips at the beach on a blue sky day.
The three ducks and three shrubs/trees on the spit of land give an implied line and repeated objects that draw you into an investigation of the scene. Thanks.
Hello Thomas. We really enjoy the subtle changes you have made with your videos. Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change. Thank you for all that you do. 😎☺.
Thomas, I rarely comment on RUclips but jut wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your videos and pictures. I have an A6300 that I dabble with only for family birthdays etc. When I fist got it I looked for content online and your channel and 1 other are the only ones I watch now. Every picture you take is stunning and your eye for detail is breath-taking. Thank you for everything.
Id keep the duck photo. It shows life on the lake. Or like a photo of people sitting on a bench overlooking a lake in the distance. Sometimes these little bits add to a photo.
NOBODY does this better than you, Mate. You are in your element. LOVE that image! Can’t imagine all the effort and work that you put into producing these videos, Thomas. Cheers from a huge fan and Subscriber from across the pond! Stay safe and Healthy! 👍👍👍👍✌🏻😀🇬🇧🇺🇸📷
Still can't understand how you manage to capture an image and vlog the whole process simultaneously, while weather conditions are changing every minute. I find this so stressful, but you seem so calm! First image was absolutely amazing!! And the whole video so beautiful. Oh man, you are such an inspiration.
Enjoyed that. I love North Wales. I bought the Photographing North Wales book just before Christmas as I know North Wales is a stunning place although I have hardly been there, so I bought the book for inspiration and to know where to go etc. They are all great books those Fotovue books. I went to Cwm Idwal and walked around Lake Ogwyn, up Devil's Kitchen. Got some nice Landscape images of there and Tryfan.
I have passed that spot so many times both on the road side and the far side and I agree with your first impressions, not much going on. I have never seen that lone tree so well spotted and well composed. I will keep my eyes open next time i'm in the valley with my camera.
If you read all the comments you sure stumble upon some of my comments. I always praise your videos in the entertainment factor because it is one of the most well thought, and well made. You also noticed that i always try to be honest, respectfully but hones about the pictures, knowing very well these are video photography mot necessarily your portfolio work. Well I said all that to tell that I loved the photos in these videos, my favorite was the first one with the mist outlining one of the hills. 👏👏👏👏
Yeah, don't forget the tripod! The first image ended up being just what I saw as the scene with the most potential when you started talking about it; a square image with the boathouse and fog layers where they were. Very nice! The lone tree ended up as expected as well. Nice. Just love your videos! So peaceful.
Gorgeous image. It always amazes me how you calmly talk to us when an image like that rolls in because you could so easily lose the shot while you chat.
Beautiful photography! I think having the ducks in the image adds a good focal point and balances the image. Thanks for creating another wonderful inspiring vlog.
I am getting kinda anxous when he finds the perfect composition that is constantly changing and he keeps talking about it and what he's going to do and seeing it changing behind him :D Feeling like it will change for the worst and he is missing it.. At least I get some consolation in the end when he takes the photo and it is actually good but still :D
I definitely binge watched all your videos when I first started watching! Been watching since 2013 I think? That’s how long I’ve been into photography and you Nick, and Ben were the first three photographers I learned a lot from and still do! Enjoyed as always Mr. Thomas!
Thought I recognised Llyn Dinas, walk there a lot when in Beddgelert as it’s wheelchair accessible. A beautiful place but looks even better in the conditions you got.
Love the new thumbnail, to be honest I only noticed because I just watch the latest video and never go to your RUclips channel just get a notification. Looking smart I also have a delica I use around Scotland on my digging channel I just love all aspects of the outdoors... everytime I watch this I feel like loading up the van and disappearing. Stay safe and well and thanks for the videos..😎
Thomas,.. 6:01 That has got to be one of your very best images. Period. Stunning. As I was watching you prep the camera for the shot, I was thinking: "ND filter! ND filter! Blur the water!". I'm so glad you did! It worked a treat! ;)
Love photographing Cwmorthin slate works! Great place in the snow as well. Super contrast with all the discarded slate and old buildings. Top choice Tom!
The first shot is incredible!! The filter you put on (this is all in my inexperienced mind) smoothed the water , but at the same time gave it amazing light texture. Second, glad you left the ducks in. Again in my head , they draw your eye in and kind of give the photo layers. Ducks, trees, mist...wow.
Wasn't quite sure with the ducks at first, just like your thought. But then looking at the final image, I must say they do add 'something' to the image and agree with your decision to keep the ducks.
I like warm & cozy! At my age, I have to have a really good venue in mind before I get excited enough to get out into the cold to go photographing. * The bushes can be lightened in Photoshop, especially in black and white. However, your square looks good, even though I seldom crop square. I like this one.
Good to see you take on snowdonia again. This time of year the light struggles in that part of Snowdonia due the close proximity of the hills and mountain's as the sun doesn't rise enough. Next time yer in this neck of the woods try the southern pat of Snowdonia, ( south of Bleanau ) more open, more natural and less industrial.
It's great to see you giving North Wales some love Tom 😁 The image of the lone tree is definitely the winner for me. I feel like Welsh weather is actually a blessing for photographers: we very rarely get "boring" days of any sort 😅 You've captured it in beautiful detail as usual mate.
Beautiful images Thomas. In particular, I really appreciate hearing your process on which filters to use on the first image. I found that really interesting!
Just to let you know, you have a big fan in Brazil. Man, every time you surprises us with stunning locations and spectacular photos. Hope someday I can reach 10% of your level…🤩.
There's magic in b&w photography. Just like a beautiful woman doesn't need makeup, a beautiful photo doesn't need colors. Wonderfully captured moment.
Glorious, indeed. The ducks really did line up, literally and metaphorically.
My beautiful homeland which I miss.
Thank you for the exquisite pictures.
Thomas, I have been watching your channel for a number of years, I would say that first image is one of your best.!
The ducks did something I didn't expect - they add more depth to that image because they're darker than the background shapes. The lone tree however is a real winner to me, it seems to be yearning for the light on the distant mountain. Great stuff!
In awe of the skill on display in that first image. 😮
That first image is genuinely incredible.
The image with the boat houses is a FANTASTIC (as you may say) image.
Love the ducks. They are spaced exactly the same as the three trees at the end of the promontory.
Really like the first image. There’s something quite poetic about it.
Last image of the lone tree was superb! Definitely a square crop image.
Those runs and the tailings of the slate quarry looked very interesting in the video - might have made good subjects. Ducks on a lake are never too distracting.
I'm glad you left the ducks in the second image. I think they actually anchor the composition. I love shots like that.
Black and white for the first image was absolutely the right choice. Stunning.
That first image feels like a real transformation in the level of your work, Thomas. I'm biased because I am primarily a B&W photographer and I think all of the images today might be better handled in B&W, but the first one really felt like a step up to another level compared to the (overall excellent) work you normally produce. The black and white picture is my favorite.
I love a good ol misty morning, my memories from visiting wales is an hired M series BMW (free upgrade) tight roads lined with stone walls. and eating curry in the south of wales with hot chips at the beach on a blue sky day.
When a man knows his craft...That image with the mist turned out fantastic.
I really appreciate how you’ve always shared your camera setting and listed them at the bottom of each of your images! Thanks!!
That Boathouse image is outstanding. Love it.
Would have loved to see that first image in colour. The amazing blue tones of the morning would be stunning.
A lovely set of images, and proves the adage being in the right place at the right time, is more important.
How has Tom not got to 1 million subscribers yet

Magical boat house image. Love the atmosphere
Hair cut and a foggy morning in Wales. Can't get much better. ;)
The first and third images are my favorites.
Love the black and white image of the boat house... wonderful, the newest magnetic Kase filter system is brilliant, my next bit of an upgrade.
I like the first and last images the best. But what a beautiful place to go to.
Id keep the duck photo. It shows life on the lake. Or like a photo of people sitting on a bench overlooking a lake in the distance. Sometimes these little bits add to a photo.
Those ducks really made the image come alive. Good job there.
First image was beautiful.
Your photos never dissapoint
NOBODY does this better than you, Mate. You are in your element. LOVE that image! Can’t imagine all the effort and work that you put into producing these videos, Thomas.

That first image is just sensational Thomas
Damn! You have a flow now!! Awesome picture and video!
I loved the image of the boat houses with the ethereal background.
Still can't understand how you manage to capture an image and vlog the whole process simultaneously, while weather conditions are changing every minute. I find this so stressful, but you seem so calm!

@@simonkitchin1538 Welcome. It's a great book. Cwm Idwal is a stunning place! Can't wait for my next adventure and inspiration from the book.

That lone tree scene had everything and more to make it amazing!
I'd say it was worth the effort, especially the boathouse scene, great sense of scale in that one.
I'm glad you kept the ducks. They give more life to the image and are perfectly placed to give more layers and depth.
You went with the ducks! Fantastic! I really liked that frame.
Oh man, that first image... Hit home immediately when the full frame was revealed.
A worthwhile venture. 👍 🥂
Love the one with the tree
Gorgeous image. It always amazes me how you calmly talk to us when an image like that rolls in because you could so easily lose the shot while you chat.
13:35 🎶 all the ducks are swimming in the water, falda-dalda-daldoooo, falda-dalda-daldoooo
Beautiful photography! I think having the ducks in the image adds a good focal point and balances the image. Thanks for creating another wonderful inspiring vlog.
This is the area I live in. It’s gorgeous, the weather and light can change in moments. Glad you enjoyed it, great footage and images!
I like the last photograph the most.... 1:1 crop doesn't look too tight that alone tree.
That first B/W was my favorite. Gorgeous tones and mood.
Love that first black and white!
I like them all, but the boat houses is my favorite. Nicely done!
I think of all your images, the boat house is my favorite. The fog definitely helps make the image and B&W is the right choice in my eyes.
« I am getting high » and the little awkward look after had me laughing !
It’s good to see you in North Wales. Love that place.
Thanks for adding a little more detail of where you are, saves me spending most of the video trying to work it out 😀
Absolutely appreciate your video's - especially when you were filming with Norton. You two would make a great team!!
I’m glad you kept the ducks.
The first photo is gorgeous Thomas and both the square crop and black and white choice really made it.
I definitely binge watched all your videos when I first started watching! Been watching since 2013 I think? That’s how long I’ve been into photography and you Nick, and Ben were the first three photographers I learned a lot from and still do! Enjoyed as always Mr. Thomas!
It's good to hear your opinion I really enjoyed it. Watching Thomas Heaton's videos makes me want a photography van.
love how much effort you put into your videos. they're very moving and inspiring.
Absolutely stunning images you got that day.
Absolutely loved that image of the boat houses. Just perfectly balanced. Nice work
one word - WOW!
Thought I recognised Llyn Dinas, walk there a lot when in Beddgelert as it’s wheelchair accessible. A beautiful place but looks even better in the conditions you got.

As usual great photos! That lone tree will make a great form for a bonsai.
Love photographing Cwmorthin slate works! Great place in the snow as well. Super contrast with all the discarded slate and old buildings. Top choice Tom!

Three cracking images there, the grasses hmmmm. Thanks for another great video. Loved it.

F/11 HTN (Heaton)...nice plate! I enjoy the pace and mood of your videos - a good combination of talking and shooting. Thanks for another good one!
Beautiful images of a stunning landscape! Thanks, Tom.

The duck bring life to the photo, like it a lot
as usual, good job really good work
Amazing images in wonderful conditions. Thank you.
Third one , could look at that for hours. The more I look the more I see
That first image was very good
It's great to see you giving North Wales some love Tom 😁 The image of the lone tree is definitely the winner for me.
I feel like Welsh weather is actually a blessing for photographers: we very rarely get "boring" days of any sort 😅 You've captured it in beautiful detail as usual mate.
I'm not a photographer , but I love watching your videos! Big fan !!
I can't believe this is the first time you've visited this area, such a wonderful place.
Those two main images (tree image and ducks image)......Top Shelf images and the best conditions!! I'm glad this trip worked out well for you!!
Beautiful images Thomas. In particular, I really appreciate hearing your process on which filters to use on the first image. I found that really interesting!
1st shot absolutely gorgeous 😍.
Ah man! I wanted to see the first image in colour! I think the orange in the mountain and the mist would have worked so well.
Inspired once again. Thomas you are the best.
First image is amazing. The forward thought in having the required filters, all 3 of them worked perfectly together.
Just to let you know, you have a big fan in Brazil. Man, every time you surprises us with stunning locations and spectacular photos. Hope someday I can reach 10% of your level…🤩.
Great to see you getting your ducks in a row. Great vid and those quarries are amazing if you have time to explore
Loved the boat houses. Its amazing how quickly the weather conditions change.
