Thank you so much for posting this. I was super interested in heading to yosemite and staying here but had no clue about how crowded it was! Such is life!
I've camped in camp 4 several times and hammocks are allowed but there are restrictions. You can't have rope or the hammock itself touching and rubbing on the tree white its taut or set up. You have to put some type of cushion in between so there isnt direct contact in order to preserve the tree. Usually, people use cardboard as the cushion. Hopefully this helps and I'm not too late.
i've been waiting my whole life to go to yosemite for camping..but now i changed my mind.. this is NOT camping, i'm used to parking at my campsite, and the nearest people would be like 500 feet away from us, not 10 feet away.. too crowded and does not look fun at all.
It is camping just like at any other site, just with people closer together. There are loads of other campsites at Yosemite too, its not just camp 4, and honestly the main advantage to being in camp 4 is being so close to so much climbing so if your not a climber it might not even be worth waiting for
That's just one campsite in Yosemite, there's many different ones and they all work differently. Yosemite is a beautiful place and I find that we're not even at the campsite for most of the day anyways.

I haven't seen a hammock in Camp 4. Doesn't mean they're not allowed though. Might have to give them a call to see. Good luck!

You can camp it. You need a lottery entrance. So this is not entirely true.
