Face? "There´s a legend here, that the person riding the black bike, actually has no head..."
Durarara tells a history of Ikebukuro, a district of Tokyo full of maffia, teen gangs, illegal doctors, murderers and former KGB agents as supernatural elements seep into the neighbourhood and it all starts falling into chaos. Also, Shizuo throws whatever is at hand: street lights, signposts, motorbikes, vending machines...
As for linked animes, Isekai Quartet links Re:Zero, Overlord, Evil Tanya and KonoSuba. And in season 2, it also links Shield Hero and Overly Cuatious Hero
Other shows linked together are the Clamp trio: Sakura Cardcaptor, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and XXXHolic.

Firstly: Definitely check out the endings.
Secondly: the story is hard to reveal without spoilers, but I'll boil it down as bare-bones as possible: there isn't just one storyline. Every character and group of characters you see in the openings has their own story- some smaller, some larger, that all interconnect. It makes for fantastic storycrafting and worldbuilding. It contains everything from information brokerage to gang wars, a serial slasher attacking people in the night to local legends about a "Black Rider" (which happen to mostly be true). There's a human trafficking case, a missing girl, it's just a wild ride from start to finish. But it's beautiful and clever in its storytelling and narration because the first season is very, very slow-burn... At first. It's similar to Attack on Titan in how, as you get further along, you can see more and more threads connecting, but more still extending out into the distance, connected to plot points you have yet to come across.
I *highly* recommend this one, Luke, ngl

Durarara and another series by the same author in the same world called Baccano are both ensemble shows. They follow large casts of characters with disparate but interconnected stories. Durarara focuses on the Ikebukero district in Tokyo and an eclectic group of people who live there. There are some supernatural elements and there is some action but neither are the focus. There is no real main character and certain parts of the cast become more or less important at various parts of the story. There are elements of drama, psychological thriller, gang/mafia stories, and much much more.
Baccano which as I mentioned is by the same author is instead set in America and largely follows several mafia families. It likewise has some supernatural elements and has a large cast with a similar structure of interconnected stories. Both shows are quite good and worth watching. Durarara covers the entirety of the light novels it's based on, while Baccano only covers a handful, though it's constructed in a non-linear storytelling fashion that does an excellent job of excluding plotlines that the show otherwise wouldn't have completed. I highly recommend both shows. Baccano is shorter because it's just one season and a few OVAs (3 iirc, but might have been 4).

This anime is like a lot of people already commented about certain people who live in a big city. It's chaotic, dramatic, slice of life and a little bit of fantasy. Every person you see in the openings basically has their own story going on, their own motivations, which one way or another connects them to the others. I find it hard to describe the anime more without spoiling anything, but it's also been years since I saw it.

Something I love with this openings is that before the last chorus the opening makes a bridge with some instrument solos, no lyrics, while they recap some of the important points needed for the current chapter during the solo, then the recap stops and they throw the last chorus to the face. It's those kind of openings you never skip from how good they are.

Woah Durarara! I'm happy you've reacted to its openings, Durarara is one of my favourite anime, it was pretty popular back when it aired in 2010.
It's quite hard to briefly describe the plot of this anime but I think its official description, which is roughly "A story of twisted love set in Ikebukuro" fits really well. It's about all these characters living their lives in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and how they interconnect so yeah, the main appeal is in the characters, not in the plot.
Definitely recommended, although if it doesn't suit your taste you're probably not going to like it much, since it's so unique.
Fun fact, the character that is constantly throwing signposts is voiced by the same VA as Erwin and the black haired guy that is chased by him is voiced by Levi's VA in Japanese (they're very close irl and they frequently voice characters in the same anime)

*Durarara is on my top 10 favorite anime. I'm a huge fan of how it flows.* Without spoilers, there are a bunch of people and different, separate plots going on that somehow connect in surprising ways. It's impossible to explain exactly what it's all about without explaining it all and after you watch it, you understand that's why it turns out as amazing as it does.
Another anime based on the work of the same author, who is called Ryougo Narita, is *Bacanno,* and that one also works like that, except the plots happen in 3 different moments in time, separated by years, and are still connected despite that!

Describing Durarara would be hard even with Spoilers, let alone without them XD.
If I had to tell what the show is about without spoiling it...
In Durarara, it feels like the city itself is the main character.
Lots of people go around, forming their own groups, making friends, losing them, making enemies, making them allies, finding the occult hidden inside the city, completely ignoring it and continuing their lives...
It's not about a character in specific, but about everyone.
If I had to talk about a specific point for what all the differnet stories eventually drive towards, it would be about the face of that masked rider, and the whims of an information dealer called Izaya that REALLY loves people, and loves smaking people hate him... Except for a specific man that he hates from the bottom of his heart XD.

Oh, I haven't thought about Durarara in a while, it's quite good.
Durarara first released in 2010, then took a bit of a break before having a revival in 2015 as Durarara x2 (that was opening 3-5). It is definitely more character focused than a lot of the shows you've reacted to so far, and the quite expansive ensemble cast and the way the various characters from all walks of life have their stories intersect is a big part of the appeal for this show. I don't really want to say much more than that, considering it's very easy to spoil if you get into details, but it's safe to say that this anime's main point is that everyone has their own story and nobody is a background character.
I never heard anyone say that Mikado looks like Subaru from Re:Zero before, but I see what you mean when I look at them side by side. Durarara has no connection to Re:Zero whatsoever, so don't worry about that.
And the racing anime you're thinking of is called Initial D, and yes, "Deja Vu" is a song from that anime.

Durarararararara.... I do recommend it. Sadly this one gets forgotten a lot in the community but it's definetly a great show.
It's mainly about big city life and gangs. So there are a lot of characters each with their own affiliation and goals. Things overlap, people from different groups know each other and yes a lot of drama and conflict arises because of that. Now sprinkle a tiny bit of supernatural into it and you get this chaotic but masterfully written show.
Hope you will watch enjoy it G.O.T.

The racing anime is Initial D and worth checking out.

I feel like I need to start suggesting things for these reactions more. I'm not particularly superstitious, nor am I the type to let something so simple inflate my ego, but...
If I had a nickel for every time anime openings I've suggested have been reacted to on this channel within 2 weeks of me requesting them, then I'd have 2 nickels. That's not a lot, but it's pretty weird that it's happened twice with me having no prior knowledge on the state of the Thursday polls.

Well, Durarara is a bit special, since you dont have 1 set plot that is happening, but a bunch of smaller stories that all play into a bigger one, be it directly or indirectly. It has drama, comedy, some fantasy elements (mainly with the chick in black with the yellow helmet) and a ton of plot twists.
    Some things without spoiling much:
It is not connected what so ever with re:zero, there are a shit ton of characters, the blond guy that keeps ripping out street poles and stuff is probably my favorite character and hes badass af, finding out what the chick with the yellow helmet looks like is kinda part of the big overarching plot, there some are gang fights and some more fantasy esk things happening.
Its definitely worth a watch and you might also like the endings for the show.
As for the drifting anime you were asking about, I think you were referring to Initial D. Older anime, the opening for it became a famous meme for any and all drifting, not really my thing, but yeah, some people love it.
As for a recommendation for an anime this time I would like to recommend you 2 of my favorite anime, Violet Evergarden and The Ancient Magus Bride. Both managed to bring me to tears a few times. Both have fantasy elements(The Ancient Magus Bride more so, since yeah, the whole magic thing)
The Ancient Magus Brides story follows a girl, that has lost her will to live and gets picked up by an ancient mage, to become his apprentice. It plays in a somewhat modern day setting, where magic, mages and fae are fading into obscurity.
Violet Evergarden follows a girl, that was a child soldier and has to try to reintegrate into society after the war ended. It touches a lot on topics like ptsd, treatment of war veterans, the aftermath of war and the slow rebuilding of society. There are some scenes that will straight up just make you sob like a child.
Hope this helps in any way.
    Thanks for the vidz :D

Durarara is amazing. It doesn't really have a main character. The main character is the town they're in and you follow all the supernatural and gang shit that happens. There is a set group of character so it's not like each episode you follow different people.

They don't show it in these videos, but tevery OP has a point where it switches to an instrumental section for about 20 seconds as clips from the last episode play. They put the recap smack in the middle of the theme song instead of before. It's one of the coolest parts about these themes. (and its sister series, Baccano)

Durarara is one of those bucket list anime that you need to see before you die. All of the characters have their own story that's intricately woven into the main story. Every character is relevant and related in some way. Seemingly unrelated events are connected in some way and it's all centered around the many gangs and inhabitants of the city, with a mix of the supernatural included. Durarara is special in that it doesn't actually have a main character and that's because everyone is their own main character to their own story. In reality, it's more like the city itself is the main character.
In my opinion, Durarara is a must watch

Durarara! is the modern continuation of a series called Baccano!
I highly recomend you check out the opening for Baccano! as well as it's essentially a anime made by the same folks, with a amazing opening. Essentially if Durarara is modern pulp fiction, Baccano is the classic 1920s pulp brought to life in anime form complete with cammora and mafiso.

I've watched this a couple of times, and if anyone asked me "what is this about" my answer would be "no idea"... it's just weird in a good way. Like, there's a lot going on with the different groups of characters that amounts to almost nothing, and it's pretty mundane most of the time, but it's still entertaining to watch because it's all interconnected.
As for recommendations, I'm still on the team asking for "That time I reincarnated as a slime" and "So I'm a spider, so what?", the songs on these are amazing.

  • @harnageaa

Probably other people did better summary to the story but it's actually quite simple, It's "fantasy" + Normal life + gangsters life + city life + night city life, Overall It's all about "the city" and the interconnection between the city and the characters.
The *story is not linear*, every episode usually show random points of what happen in the city at different time, (sometimes it start with end of an episode and then middle then start and connect everything into a LINE and connect the story making it making sense). Lots of drugs, illegal stuff, deaths, accidents |
(Basically you the viewer are the GOD and see every aspect of the city and its people)

The main story of Durarara, sort of, is this: After talking to his childhood friend online, Ryugamine Mikado decides to go to the city of Ikebukuro to go there to high school with his friend, Masaomi Kida. There he interact with plenty of weird and eccentric people, while also follows some urban legends, like the mysteries black rider, or the strongest person of Ikebukuro, or the mysteries group known as the Dollars.
Though, while Mikado is the character who introduces us to the series, he isn't completely the main character. The author of the series considered, at least at the beginning, Celty to be the main character, while viewers of the show prefer to think that Ikebukuro itself is the main character.
It's a weird show with weird people, and the thing that connects them to one another is that almost everyone have a very strange stance regarding the concept of love.

I really enjoyed this anime. Here is a couple of notes, if you end up watching it.
It is a very story heavy anime with multiple stories overlapping between the various characters.
From what I remember (It's been a long time and I am bad at memorizing) It's very dialog heavy and at times they speak one after the other and sometimes there'll be overlapping dialog. To me it felt I was reading nonstop subtitles that I may have missed certain scenes or vice versa. So I had to watch this anime dubbed in order to keep up. I am a slow reader though, so you might not have any issues with it subbed.

Durarara is my favorite anime and it is wonderfully adapted from a novel. Durarara, Baccano and other of Narita's novels, have that style of not following a particular line of development but the story goes back and forth keeping you entertained with the scene that is being shown to you, and intrigued by the one that was postponed. The anime accommodates that perfectly, and the soundtrack adds a magical touch to it.
I would recommend watching it relaxed, DRRR is an anime that you don't know where it will go until certain revelations (ep +10) make you put everything together like a puzzle

There are basically no current ways to stream it so finding it is a challenge and no one has done a reaction to it in ages. Very short as well only 16 episodes total? A great prologue to Durarara (I always pronounce it Do - Rah-rah-rah I also HIGHLY recommend Baccano's opening and ending they are phenomenal.
