Can't NOT play for 5 months and play for one!!! Playoffs are earned not deserved. Been a Pens fan for 35 years and will always be!
It’s pretty nuts that you can pinpoint singular moments in some of these losses through the course of this season that cost them a playoff berth. It was that razor thin. They did this to themselves though.

The Penguins got no help from themselves all season. When you get down to praying for a point , it doesn’t really matter.
Smith and Graves were catastrophic signings and cost us our season. Look how we played after Graves went out. Smith ruined the Malkin line for more than half a season as he was invisible after the first 5-7 games. Also not firing Todd R was incomprehensible. That clown should have been gone before Thanksgiving.
Didn't bother me in the slightest, the Penguins didn't help themselves - and they damn sure don't deserve to be in the playoffs.Hey, I'm a die-hard Penguins fan ( been one since 1968)and if they'd have had a decent team I want to see them in the Cup chase, but this off-season there IS reason to hope next season will be better. Hopefully, The Pens get rid of some coaches & players, we need change badly- and for the love of God PLEASE people STOP Whining about the "Core" - I'd keep Crosby but the rest of them I'd trade Malkin and see if Letang wouldn't seriously consider retirement, but Sullivan, Jarry and the coaching staff-they'd be gone by Thursday morning in time for the sunrise.

The ONLY way it happens is if Crosby PUBLICLY asks out. Read: management will demand that so the hoi-polloi KNOW it wasn’t THEM getting rid of HIM. It’s all about the OPTICS.

they have themselves to blame. They knew last year that every game counts. they played barely average for 70 games AND THEN decide to give a shit for the last 12. That being said. we learned alot about this team in the last 12. who played and who didn't. I want the team of the last 12 games to be resigned for next year and trim the fat of the others
This offseason most important to resigned is Marcus petterson

They didn't deserve anything . They played like crap most of the season and don't forget pouting about Jake for 2 weeks . OT losses were killers . They couldn't play with a lead at all . Letang got burned for goals when on the ice . We need to draft Defense and forget about getting 100 Forwards .
All this legalized betting advertised every commercial break has made a huge difference , and not in a good way.
It's a shame Guentzel was traded away for peanuts. The Penguins would have made the playoffs for sure with him on the team.

Time for Dubas to earn his paycheck this summer but moving these contracts and getting younger, faster and a more balanced team will take a miracle.
I just don't know how Dubi gets rid of players/contracts like nieto, smith, graves, maybe rak and acari. Their isn't much room in the line up and most of those players under preformed and make decent money. I think in order for this team to turn it around they need new coaches and or many new players or both. Is Dubi willing or capable of doing this? That to me is the question.
Nieto was injured all year, also his contract is a non factor as it can be waived I’m pretty sure so you can get out of all of it, smith only has 1 year left and his play is way overblown so its not a terrible contract to get rid of. The graves one is by far the worst, think we just hope he bounces back, i know people have mentioned that other pens defensemen in the past have had a terrible opening season before flourishing the 2nd season and beyond, think Martin was the guy cited. Rakell after injury was decent enough for me to say hes decently likely to have a bounce back, 14G-18A-32P in 52 games is about where you’d want a 5m/y player to be its about bang on, as for acciari i think the only real complaint i have is his injuries, when hes in the lineup the PK is way better and think the 4th line is better with him then without, but he is overpaid IMO by like 500k-1m so not egregious. With all that i think you trade smith and theyd have like 17.75m in cap space for next season, more than enough to do something.
They better send as many eligible players to WBS and load them up for the Calder Cup playoffs.

For all of you who say they don’t deserve it while i understand the point i don’t think it’s entirely accurate. For starters the isles have 2 different 6 game losing streaks, tons of blown leads, collected over 30 percent of their points in OT and SO which isn’t in plsyoff hockey as well as having a double digit negative goal differential. Caps have a negative 37 goal differential a recent 8 game losing streak have two blowout losses on the last 2 weeks to Buffalo and two blown leads to Carolina and Ottawa. What makes these teams deserve it when they are worse in almost every metric then pens beside PP. a lot of this applies to Detroit as well but at least they aren’t negative in differential. Pens also owned all these teams literally just beat caps easily and red wings twice in a month not to mention going 2-0-1 against isles. Florida last year lost their last 2 games and only got hot at the end did they not deserve it because they waited til game 65 to heat up? I truly believe if we had gotten in we would have had a Florida type run but i can never prove that obviously.
