If you still haven’t fixed this yet, I had the exact same problem and I watched your video which demonstrated to me that regular super glue wouldn’t work. I didn’t some research on polypropylene adhesives, and found loctite plastics, which says “all plastics” on it and even specifically mentioned polypropylene on it. I used that and now even after multiple folds it works perfectly :)

I think if you inject the glue deep into the hole it’ll prevent water from filling the channel. The hole along the crease-line may or may not be repairable, but the channel can definitely be sealed to prevent water from filling it 🙂
I was successful in this kind of repairs. I had 3 similar holes on folds. The ORU kit did not quite work. The leek reappeared on the second launch. What works is E6000. Note at first I did make sure to get rid of water and treat places to be repaired with 96% alcohol. Then I have used E6000 glue that remain flexible once cured. I did not fill the channel with the glue. I just used enough of the glue to get some "bubble" inside the channel without forming a plug. I have waited over 24 hours for the glue to settle. After a few folds and unfolds I did cut out excessive glue "bubble"that squeezed out . So far it withstand more than several dozens of folds and unfolds without developing a leek. Maybe I just get lucky as repairing hole on fold line is very tricky.

Ya, that fold line is a deal breaker for me, in terms of any sort of longevity. Add the fact that they only warranty it for a year. Thanks for showing us the kayak though. Very much appreciate the reviews.
try flex seal? tape or spray. it may be an option to explore for making a seal on a flexible joint. And probably use the Venturi principle of sucking water out of the hole by spraying high pressure compressed air sideways next to the hole to create a vacuum effect, thus sucking it from the hole first.

Superglue isn't really flexible and will likely crack every time you fold that crease. A flexible silicone or urethane glue, like what's used on drysuit gaskets would be better. I've had the same leaking hole in the corner of my Coast XT for years and a little water in corrugated channels is no big deal.
Worth maybe getting a Hypodermic needle (you should be able to get blunt ones specifically for glue) and syringe and use that to get glue into channel.
We have 2 Lake kayaks - one got some pretty noticeable "dings" in them - suggestions from OruKayak customer service were the following:
"A suggestion would be buying some E6000 clear adhesive since it's pretty flexible or using some G/flex 655 Thickened Epoxy Adhesive which some customers have fixed this kind of accident with their kayaks, and have worked perfectly."
"The best option to repair this would be to clean the developed hole, try to smoothen the area help yourself with sandpaper, but try not to apply too much pressure. This is just to make the area that will be repaired as flat as possible. Afterward, please make sure that the area is clean and dry so you can apply a tiny amount of E6000 glue as a filler. Then leave it to sit overnight - 24 to 48 hours will really allow it to adhere. If you take it out on the water too soon after applying the tape, it won't be effective."
From looking at various reviews and RUclips videos - I purchased the G/flex 655 and will give that a try ; I will report back after doing the repair and trying. There is NOT a leak here - just a pretty good size ding and trying to be pro-active in preventive maintenance to keep the hull integrity at optimum.
I thought it was puncture proof? I might not get it now it's too expensive to have these issues.
I got mine around the holidays. I live in MN so the weather just recently became kayakable. I work at home 3rd shift. We had a rare break last night. I had kept the kayak unopened in room that is never used. It has a hole in it. I then see in HUGE capital letters that there are no returns after 30 days. There can be help with repairs but it came that way. BUYER BEWARE indeed. I'll follow up to report if i get any help from ORU. Warning to other people. Don't expect these to come undamaged. I'm still paying for this. Hoping the company stands behind their customers!

Worrying about pin holes in the hull is completely moot, because a each end the corregated plastic sheets and the holes between are completely open, apart from the neoprean black end things at each end. If you capsize water will get down there anyway. Complete waste of time worrying abiout tiny holes in the outer shell, unless its getting inside the hull. Just stand them up on end for an hour before packing them away and you are golden.
Damn I just took mine out for its maiden voyage and I have a bunch of channels with water in them 😢 I guess next time ill have to launch the boat out aways and climb into it or something instead of taking off from the shore. I didnt think it was that rocky but i guess it's a pretty delicate boat...
Flex Seal is the way to go…my dad’s aluminum boat had a 1/2 inch hole in it from the previous owner’s gadget…we used flex seal and it’s good as new…
So after 6 months, that kayak leaked? I watched you video of the kayak when you first bought it and thought it would be a good kayak to own. Not so fast. I want one that will last at least a couple years before it springs a leak.
I've had the same issue with both of my Inlets where water is getting into the channels between the panels. The first one puzzles me because I've inspected it closely and cannot find a hole anywhere.
The second kayak has a tiny crack along the bottom of the hull which I should be able to patch up, however due to the small size, I didn't think this would be responsible for water getting into 15-20 different channels, some of which are nowhere near the crack.
Did you have any luck getting water out of the channels? Will it eventually evaporate or is it trapped in there for good now?
In the section TO REPAIR A SPLIT ON A FOLD LINE of the repair kit instructions you show in the video Oru recommends helicopter tape.
When using glue you are supposed to squeeze the glue into the hole so that it can seal the hole from the inside.
I thought Oru kayak had a 1 year warranty? Shouldn't they replace the whole thing for free?
It’s great that Oru sent you a repair kit straight away! I actually don’t think it’s a big issue but what I’ll be more concerned about is that it could get mouldy if stored away and not used for a while. But I think you’ll be using it all the time so no worries there!
Haha...yeah, I use it at least once a week :) I do make sure it's dry before storing it.

Hmm, generally cyanoacrylates (superglue) are not waterproof even when they claim to be and certainly not flexible.
I am not sure what would work with your polypropylene boat.
The strongest, longest lasting, flexible, waterproof glue I have used is Seam Grip by Gear Aid.
The company used to be called McNett. Some other companies use the same chemistry and are just as good, Stormsure for example. These glues work extremely well on PVC but not some other plastics. On PVC waders, gumboots etc, the bond will last many decades if not a lifetime, no patch required, just the glue itself.
I note that Gear Aid now make several versions of Seam Grip for different polymers, such as Sil Nylon. So, it may be worth contacting Gear Aid & asking which if any product will work on your polypropylene boat.

Super glue is not flexible at all. Its actually brittle. Maybe a clear silicone would be better like Henrys clear roofing patch? Or Flex Seal?
You can try Sugru. It should fix the hole and give some additional support to the damaged area.

Wait. What? So Oru sent a repair kit with a tiny tube of Gorilla Super glue-which I already have in my kitchen drawer-and it doesn’t even work? 🤷🏼♀️

My thought was to use a needle applicator to inject the glue.?Even if you had to enlarge the hole,, get the glue in the channel were it’s not flexing. That might block water from going inside the channel. I have a “Bonafide” fishing kayak,,,, Iam considering one of these for my son in law,,, Blessing to You and Your Mom,,,, Joshua

I have a one inch split in a fold on the bottom of boat. ORU recommended TUff Tape. No instructions from ORU how to use Tuff Tape??>

Sorry to hear you got a pin hole in your Oru Kayak. It's always hard to find the small pin holes and can be frustrating searching them out, but you certainly were up for the challenge. Glad Oru showed support on your issue, sounds like good customer service. Do you have any idea where you might have got the pin hole? I watch your video's and you are extremely careful with your kayak. Hopefully you won't experience these repairs very often. Keep the videos coming, they are very informative and fun. Take care.

I got used bay our kayak and it has the same issue, I got it for 360
stuff some baking soda in the hole. The get some "THIN" CA glue and seal it up.

Would Flex Seal work on Oru?
My solution would be to make a small hole in the channel on either side of the hole and then fill it with CA thick glue and spray with activator. That should seal off the channel from both ends, I wonder if "OK" has tested this.

Were you able to ever fix it. Have you ever done a video about how to get in and out of the kayak. If you loading on a sandy or stony surface how do you get in and push off without h damaging the skin?

Use a vacuum to suck the water out or use a jet of compressed air near the hole and venturi effect will draw the water out.

No idea how it happened. I take really good care of my Oru and there was not obvious way it happened.

Maybe open the hole up the width od the corrugation so the gorilla glue fills the void then expands.
Thanks for the video.I've found the plastic really sturdy while paddling but those triple folded corners are really susceptible to damage while getting it to and from my car. I have exactly the same damage as you. I tried low viscosity CA glue because it could wick into the channel and it seems to have worked but I'm not 100% confident about it. I'm going to try the kit now (before taking it out the first time this year) and use the included tape.
Oh interesting. I wonder if the damage was from the car? That could easily be. What CA glue did you use? Is it thinner than super glue? The tape is my last resort as it is such a tough location with the two folds. Keep me updated on your yak!
@@smkauthor some damage is from bonking it against elevator walls and door frames but the worst spot is where it scuffed against the asphalt while carrying it up a ramp, so all my fault. Still, those outside corners are very extreme bends and I can’t imagine they'll survive the number of folds it's advertised to be able to withstand. I used Akfix 702 super glue which is a bit thinner than standard Crazy glue. Think it blocked the channels but didn’t do anything to address the weakening of the corner. I tried the Gorilla glue before heading out for my first 2022 paddle today. I'm going to try the Oru tape next but I have a feeling I'll be covering all the corners with something like Gorilla tape by the end of summer. Hopefully other people will experiment and find solutions.
I'm wondering how long the tape will last? But that might be the only solution.
@@smkauthor not sure how long tape will last but at least it'll be replaceable. I'm guessing the plastic will last longer with support on the outside. If corrugated cardboard is anything to judge by, letting that outside sheet wear through is a recipe for disaster.
Agreed that those triple folded corners are constantly subjected to scraping when transporting or folding/unfolding on concrete surface. Already saw a dent on mine when taking out of car and dropped to ground unexpectedly. Based on Steph’s video 4:35, that damaged corner must have been dropped multiple times or maybe scraping on rough pavement to finally chip away outer layer.

How about a small dab of moldable plastic you can push into the hole and when it cools it would act like a plug. It dries white. You can get it on Amazon as pellets. Try it. I just bought an ORU lake and I just subscribed to your channel. I love you and your moms videos. I plan on fishing for groceries in it. I live on the Southeast coast of Florida.

Waste of $899 for sure. These things are delicate. If you have the hole on the folding crease they are toast. I had a similar experience. Customer service knows abt this issue. They wont be much help.
All foldable or inflatable boats are somewhat delicate. In this case there might have been contact with rocks or other objetcts under water, there are some dark scratches near the hole. I have had to glue patches on my Grabner and Gumotex inflatables, Steph has to do the same with the Oru. Not that much difference.
That what it looks like. Someone dedicated like Steph will probably put in the work to keep it afloat, but the mayority of these things will end up in a landfill in a few years.
@@andreas6320 Not at all. I have a PAX Faltboot from the early fifties that is still fine.
Next time try an epoxy adhesive. Gorilla makes one and there’s also a really good one made from Loctite

This is why I went with the Tucktec even though I think it's pretty ugly. The corrugated plastic that Oru uses just can't be trusted after a few folds and unfolds, especially with my size/weight. I hope they will use the plastic that Tucktec uses in their future product because I love how it folds vs Tucktec's messy burrito roll
I just googled it. In the instruction video the guy seemed to be struggling to assemble it. Any feedback on that?
