Rick, you were already becoming my favorite podcast before you started diving into mtg. You have the best theme song, amazing guests, hilarious edits/animations and you yourself are always hysterical. But dude, now you’re constantly mixing in the best game ever/my favorite hobby? You clinched it bud, numero uno for life dawg. 🤙 Seriously thank you for putting in the work to make this the best pod on the net, you’re the best Ricky.
Also if I could make a suggestion, have you ever thought about having any pro-level MTG players on the pod? LSV (Luis Scott-Vargas) would be the best choice in my opinion, as he is big into puns and joking around/playing. But honestly getting any pro player would be gold.

Thank you for having the Prof on. I am loving your content and I certainly wouldn’t have found you without him. I left a more meaningful comment on that post, but I am nearly certain I know who in Chicago was your new friend. That upper echelon is very insular. You aren’t wrong. I am about to sell my collection (the entire thing) in a year for maybe 120k or so. I will buy my house with that. Then I will work my way up to another collection again. I would say, you should learn “new magic” as you say. It opens up your player base, your accessibility, and even profitability. I have some old cards of course. But I have made my small nest egg by doubling profits on new sets. Targeted buys. I know Rudy says to stay away from things but if the card fits the criteria of “staple”, multiple format playability, power curve (powerful enough that it borders on mistake to print level so you know a like card couldn’t be printed to do the same thing), and ubiquity (as in every deck in a format or nearly every deck needs it or has to answer for it) then you will hold value or actually increase value. If you can make that determination even if they are reprinted you will do just fine. Especially art targets of critically important cards. As an example modern staples of Fetch Lands will always hold or increase in value. They are needed in commander, modern, vintage, and legacy. There will never be enough especially if you get atypical art. Compare that with Tarmogoyf which I sold an original foil maybe four years ago for 1k in nearly perfect condition. Tarmogoyf has not withstood the test of time. It was just ok in commander, a staple in modern, and splash play elsewhere. It was obvious it was ripe for a fall. Multiple prints later it’s a 30.00 card. But if you instead of buy a Beta whatever you could take that same money and buy out Modern Horizons 2 singles in about 60 days. If you target the right cards (ahem Fetch Lands) and others in 1-3 years you can more than triple your money. I’ve been printing bills this way for years. It’s a full supplemental income. I am not celebrity famous. My “fame” or whatever comes from civil rights work and working with politicians to help folks. I am a LGBTQ+ and at risk youth trauma therapist. Something I do for free outside of work. My Magic flipping, and day job allow me to do that. I live in Indiana and if you are ever in Ohio and want to play, learn some smart moves, or put together a high roller table of some kind I am totally game.

I remember when magic came into the nerd store in the closest almost large town to my little town. I was into Warhammer and Miniatures back then and scoffed at that silly card game. Little did I know...
Later I got hooked up on the cardboard crack called magic with I've Age and Homelands sets coming out, started buying lots of cards, old and new. Sold everything after a GF broke up with me and I was going to become "an adult" and stop playing magic and such. Sold them all for a silly low amount.
Every time I see the prices for cards I've had, what they cost today, I get a little heart attack and a slap in my back head from myself haha. Fool!
Ah well. Back in the wagon today, playing standard only but have a nice little collection by now.
    Thanks for sharing your story.

You should absolutely do box openings. You sell the packs at about 90% market to encourage buyers and you monetize/sponsor the video to make back that 10% plus much more in profit. Could even see if you could get a magic pro or content creator for a crossover boost and to have someone with you who can fill the time talking about the cards and the importance of what is being opened. ‘Sell” a pack to Bert or Dax for that big name you can put in the title and you have yourself a show. You could see if you could do a Facebook or RUclips live. Even a twitch live stream and turn it into a whole event.

This is awesome. I grew up playing MTG in elementary school around 2000 and still dabble in Arena. Never got into collecting it but I wish I had now!

Dude, how unexpected! What a cool video that came out of nowhere! What can we do to get you to launch a MtG channel? I started playing in 1994 at age 11, sold my collection (including my goblin deck) in 2000, forgot about MtG for 20 years and then last November I picked up a FWB Badlands because I remembered that some mofo had scammed me out of it the day after I found it in the first starter deck I ever bought. Qk,I've spent a little over 10K assembling a collection of dual lands and building a nice red/blue/black deck with washed-up celebrities like Ali from Cairo and Mirror Universe. I hope I'll get to play my first game in 21 years soon... That booster box you bought looks fresh as a daisy, it's beautiful! Please do more MtG videos!
