    Worth pointing out you can have a word with the instructors on the day, they are in garage 1, they will take you round to show you what's what (it's free too). Also when booking check if it's a quiet day (98db) which you will need baffles or if it's a 104db day (baffles out). No Limits also supply free tea & coffee and in my experience are the friendliest most helpful trackday company 👍

    little tip... with your corners you want to be coming in slowly so you can get back on the throttle as you finish braking or when you tip the bike into the corner, about 15, 20% throttle, this loads the chain and back wheel up making the bike a LOT more stable, once you master it youl definitely go round faster. .. probably already know but just thought id mention it

    Another great vid, thanks. I've done one track day which was at Snetterton on my 1098 (the bike I had before my current Street Triple). It was billed as a Novice day, but lots of people out who clearly weren't novices (dedicated track bikes, tyre warmers, etc), so quite intimidating. I saw 3 people come off. The riders looked a lot more restrained in your vid than I remember from my day, but that could be the difference between watching from a sofa, vs. 'high alert' on track recollection ;-) Nevertheless, fantastic experience, and I'm trying to summon the courage to do it again on my Triple ;-) Worth mentioning that standard bike insurance doesn't cover track days.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад

      +Nigel Street Hi Nigel, yes I know what you mean, some peoples definition of "novice" is obviously different to ours and these sessions can be quite intimidating for us newbies. Good point on the insurance, I should have mentioned that...cheers for stopping by - TMF

Being a lifelong motorcyclist, but unskilled 'big bike' rider, I had contemplated doing a track day. After watching this it had taken away the apprehension that I didn't know I had. Excellent Video/sDid you also contemplate whether to install engine/axle sliders?

    Track days over here (US), at least those in my area, have classroom sessions between track times. Is that something done there or is it riding only? There are also venues for other than sportbikes - tourers/adventure/supermoto.

Sadly never really had the bottle (don't want to throw the bike down the road) plus we only really have knockhill in Scotland so would have a bit of a journey to a decent track. Did you just ride the bikes there or did you stick them in a van or on a trailer? Good wee insight, keep the vids coming 👍

    bloody awesome stuff TMF,..plan on tryin my triple at some point,maybe a Cadwell track day up my way....BUT was thinking of doing the rental bike way first time up just till i find my feet! can i ask,about taking the go-pro's on the bikes,i know ive seen lots of track days with riders using cams but ive allways been under the impression they were not allowed?? i take it you just have to tether it all down properly,have it checked ect??!!
    anyway....great stuff,..ride safe...bizz

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад +1

      +Bizz Thanks Bizz - the GoPro in this case wasn't allowed on your person/helmet or on the bike fuel tank, other than that, as long as secure, then no issue (they wouldn't let you out on track otherwise - I got stopped at Snetterton for having a camera on my head....hence no video of that day)....

      +TheMissendenFlyer As I am rapidly approaching 60, seeing someone travel at over 100mph seems brave.....then there's the issue of dropping the bike! My bikes tend to get less use but more polish the older I get. But I still love owning them. It's an age thing so enjoy it like I did when I was younger!

      +JLO Staff Understood - although to be fair 100mph on this bike seems like 60 on any other, the bike really is built for this sort of caper (well on the track anyway!).....

      +TheMissendenFlyer Yes it's amazing how cheap you can pick up a set of knock-off fairings for these on E-Bay, may have to have a look into that. Primarily though I bought the 899 for road use, it's not a "track day bike" only to me so we'll see....

    Whats the situation with insrance, i understand it usually doesnt cover track days so track insurance is needed. Is it worth going for that based on the large excess thats involved or is it a case of most people just go without?

      It is super expensive - last track day I did with this bike cost me around £300 just for the day (just for the insurance) - hence most people don't bother, hence why I now don't do track days on my bikes!!

      +Paul Robson Actually Paul, the briefing/advice at this particular track day wasn't that much cop - as far as tyres were concerned the only advice offered was "drop your pressures a bit"......I think most people that go on these days (given they are quite expensive) have an inkling about warming your tyres up...at least I like to think so! Great video, would love a shot a Donnington! I notice all the bikes still had their mirrors on. When I registered for a track day here (USA) I had to have the bike safety inspected, mirrors and turn signals removed, headlight taped, antifreeze replaced with water. What prep did they have you do on the Duc to get her approved for the track?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 лет назад

      +Chuck Skovira Hi Chuck, yes track days here do seem to vary and generally people do tape up lights, remove or tape up mirrors etc, this particular event was quite relaxed however (I'm glad to say)....only prep I did to the bike was reducing tyre pressure slightly and putting the exhaust baffles back in!

    • @chrisgoes9610
      @chrisgoes9610 2 года назад

      Here in the UK (at the time of writing Aug 2022) you can leave your mirrors on though it is recommended to turn them in; headlights/indicators do not need to be taped up; you do not need to change your coolant. In addition to what TMF has mentioned you now need a front brake guard and a full back protector. Noise levels in the UK can be strict and you get 1 warning to resolve before your bike has to be retired. If you have a leak get yourself off the racing line asap and notify the staff.
