In my opinion , the song isn't bad itself, the only wrong thing Ariana did was dropping this song instead of another bop song like NTLTC after she had been teasing for over a month, people expected a bigger banger . It may sound really great on the album , but it's definitely not the best choice for a single !!

in my opinion, the chorus is extremely catchy and nicki's part gives me life! but the song over all was kinda messy and that background audio ruined the experience a little. but i love ari and i cant wait for what she has to offer in the new album! the little snippet she posted on instagram on her birthday was enough to snatch my wig! queen ari is coming y'all.
I liked the versus and nickis rap but I didn’t like the chorus
One thing that I noticed is that people tend to dislike Ariana songs that don't talk about lust, sex. Many people love "Into you", "Side to side"...(and I LOVE those songs as well) but at the same time people are like: "she only talk about sex, flirt"(which isn't true). But there are songs like "the light is coming" or "Focus" and here, nobody pays attention to the lyrics because of the musical structure that may be disturbing. See the irony ? I am not asking to people to like a song that they don't, but I am pointing the fact that nobody tries to understand the lyrics. Ariana talked about the voice in the background and said: "It's about people and their loud ass opinions making them deaf to others and the light". I think it describes this situation perfectly.
Also, I personally don't have a problem with this music video. I wonder if people realize that it's a promo single meaning that it doesn't even need to have a video in the first place. She probably dit it for the fans and to build up the anticipation. Every video doesn't need to have 10 outfits and a ton of settings, especially when you take into account that it's a promo single. It's dark which creates a contast with the video of "No tears left to cry" that I appreciate.
