    Scott: Just wanted to thank you for your great videos. In addition to being a top-notch musician, you're also clearly a top-notch teacher. While I'm handing out compliments, let me also say that I love the way you get straight to the point at the start of each video, explain what you're going to teach, teach it, then demonstrate it.

    I love your teaching style. Even though I don't play a horn, I find your lessons useful for other instruments as well.

    Wow man.. your are a monster player. How long have you been playing? Finally I know what those little notes are for. I see them on a chart for Swinging Shepard Blues. I am trying to learn that on my flute. Do you play flute? I have a suggestion for a lesson.. 'how to learn tunes'. I used to always learn tunes by listening but lately I've been working with charts. Donna Swartz suggests not doing that. I think she is right. If you learn it by listening and just use the chart as a guide and to clarify the subtle tones I think that will make the tune easier to play. I've become a slave to the chart. I saw Jazzmia Horn at a jazz fest last week. What a hoot. She and the saxman were trading licks. They were both singing and copying each other. Mahalo Bra

      Thanks!! A long time :-) I play flute very very poorly! haha. How to learn tunes is defiinitely on the list of tutorials. There are a couple different approaches depending on your level of playing. Stay tuned for the video!

      I'm tuned in and subscribed. When I do play my tenor in public I find that playing the melody in and out on sax to be a challenge, so I use the flute for that and do my improvising in the middle on sax. I'm pretty sure that if I continue to practice patterns I will gain the ability to play a melody well. I've been messing with the flute since Jethro Tull was a new band but it wasn't until I started playing scales... for hours a day for about six months that i started sounding good. Gotta do that with my tenor now. I've added to the challenge by getting a new setup.. a Conn 10m with a Link NY *7 Thank you Scott.

    Hey what's the difference between grace notes and slurring

    • @ScottPaddock
      @ScottPaddock  4 года назад +1

      Two completely different things. Grace notes are explained in this video. Slurring is when you play between 2 (or more notes) without using your tongue. So no separation. Just changing the fingerings from note to note.
