We don’t want more not substance, Hollywood, crap. As a car guy I get more from Uncle tony talking about the overall work, in general here’s the plan, and then he shows what we did, pro’s con’s etc. Your a busy shop, if you spend to much time filming, and stop filming cause it’s an obstacle to your work, nobody benefits. Seriously,,, 5 minutes at the start of a job,, a camera time lapse of the job, and then close with 5 minutes talking about what we just saw in the time lapse.. you will be helping a lot of young wrench twisters. Terrific job sharing your work, don’t try to make it so good that you don’t do it, and us people on the outside of the car pro’s loose out.
I think your alternator info is all wrong. You were not measuring resistance but instead you were measuring a diode voltage drop in the voltage regulator or diode trio. I'm not sure what the exact resistance from the positive alternator post to ground would be, but it's not going to be 0.5 ohms on a good alternator, it will most likely look more like an open circuit with infinite resistance. Try setting your meter to the 20M ohm setting and see what you get.
@@bennettshotrodgarageclassi7068 You could still test on any good alternator and see that a good alternator does NOT read 0.5 ohms. Just so you know, that volt meter you are using has a dual function on the setting you were using, that being diode checker and continuity tester. It beeps when it detects a short but the display does not measure the ohms of the short. The display is for the diode checker function and indicates a voltage drop across a diode. You can even see in the second part of your video that the meter was showing a -0.45 V the negative indicating the polarity of the diode which was negative because you had the test leads reversed unlike the first part of the video. A good alternator should have an ohms reading that is probably higher than that meter can measure.
i started collecting a bunch of good square bodies to build a good clean truck then i got a 79 short box 4x4 with under 38,000 miles on it in mint condition cheyenne full option truck has all the goodies 400 sbc with 400 turbo got it free just needed the carb cleaned and a new fuel pump even has a painted matching tool box with keys. i still don't drive it much think in the last year i put 200 miles on it . right now i am building a 68 chevy pu and on the side i am building a 70 ford high boy dana 60/80 lockers i got it for 250 bucks with a 390 rust free good clean body tool box on side ranger full box going to make a good work truck. i have a 79 2 wheel drive with Cadillac suspension from factory sits 3 inches lower the the other ones i have use to be a diesel but i put in a 68 442 350 in it years ago then got it back for free with a rod knock lasted 15 years with the gas engine that was never apart from factory the body is mint on it scottsdale. i was going to build it but not sure now
@@jimbennettshotrods5730 really when you think about it the most helpful vids are when you run across something that you find interesting or realize that maybe alot of people arent aware of...for instance I didnt know what a normal alternator would ohm out at so I learned something.
@@cuzz63 i appreciate you saying that. We are first and foremost a shop with a youtube channel, as opposed to a youtube channel with a shop. We created the channel for a few specific reasons, 1 is for people who are not within traveling distance to watch their cars being built, 2nd is to show the fact that reality tv has hurt or passion by making people think a car can be built in 7 days, 3rd is for people to see normal guys and normal day to day shop operation and not over the top personalities with their own tequila brand and endless amounts of spendable cash, but over all to find and help people like you with your projects and maybe show something you never knew. let me guess O'reallys for the alternators? I quit buying mopar alternators from O'reallys . had one from there made in China lasted 2 days and the braided copper wires that attach to the field contacts on the back fraid in half . went to autozone bought one made in Mexico better quality braided wires and has been on the D150 since. Glad Austin is doing better 😎🤘🏁
i don't trust them "new" alternators, especially from them autozones and o-rielley's. i trust the small mom and pop rebuilds from a respected mom and pop rebuilder. it's when they get old and reture and younger ones take over that you have problems and gotta find a new source.
@@bennettshotrodgarageclassi7068 there are some here in the midwest but, i havne't had much luck. i think i found one ebay. grabbed one for my nissan never had any issues after. i had the local place try to upgrade mine that could be why. but the ebay mom and pop rebuild is working.
What does suck is a side post battery you bring home and the threads in the post are fuckered from the factory and you cannot screw your bolt in that's made onto your battery cable. Then you look like an asshole when you take the battery back and tell them and they look at the battery and say, it looks good. Then you go into full asshole mode, go and grab a side post battery cable off the shelf and insert the cable end into the battery and SHOW them it doesn't accept a cable bolt. Then they get pissed you opened a new battery cable. They then look at you with their disheartened face and simply say "Oh".... But what makes you even more furious. They go and grab another battery cable off the shelf and it doesn't work either...
I've had O'Reilly test bad alternators for me and they tell e they're good every time!! Good stuff guys!!

Might be a good idea to sell that Camaro owner a set of battery cables. Them clamp ends such. Just saying. Like the Monkey call out.
