  • Guitar virtuoso Nita Strauss has been playing in bands forever, most notably with Alice Cooper, but started releasing her own solo material in the last few years. Now we have a brand new single, and it's her first solo work to feature vocals, and they come in the form of David Draiman of Disturbed. In this video I break down gear, talk about the style and sound, how Nita is one of the top guitarists in the world, and how some men are trying to discredit her playing just because of her looks.

Alice Cooper once said "I only surround myself with the best in their field". Nita is there because of that it's just a bonus being pretty as well. But people do like pretty people, fact of life. My dad raised me on Alice Cooper and Kiss. So I knew Nita from there.

I have always felt she is a technician of the highest level, and a stellar performer as well.
This is the first song of her own, that I feel a "soul".

  • @phillee2814
    @phillee2814 2 года назад +11

Just to add - music is in Nita's genes, as she is directly descended from the Viennese family of composers whose name she bears.
I also admire the fact that she was insistent that her guitar be completely identical to the one you can buy at any Ibanez stockist, rather than a one-off special from the custom shop, with the store-bought ones being mere replicas. She has also said that the big advantage to her is that if hers gets damaged on tour (always a risk in an Alice Cooper show!), she can replace it from the nearest stockist. DiMarzio developed their Pandemonium humbucker pickups specifically for her Jiva10. "Controlled Chaos" was Kickstarter funded in under two hours - beating her broadcast interview announcing it! She does most of her own engineering as well as production.

*Although this is rumored, but it is genealogically incorrect that she is a direct descendant from the Viennese Strauss family. Greetings & Stay safe.* 🎵🎹🎻📯🎵

I really dig this song. Dave has always had a great, distinctive metal voice. I got to see Nita with Alice Cooper. That should be a requirement for any metal fan to see one of the fathers of hard rock. Always a great stage show!
You brought up Floyd Rose Tremelos. One of my favorite "oldie" albums is Steal The Light by Q5, Floyd's band way back. I love about every track on it.
I recently (or maybe finally?) picked up Dee Snider's Leave A Scar. There are some really great tracks on there. My favorite of course is Time To Choose with George Corsegrinder Fischer.
    Thanks for another great review!

Started writing this before you touched on this directly, but wanted to thank you for the to-the-point "one of the best guitarist in the world". The whole butthurt "for a girl" crap makes me mental.....first I'm pretty sure she's an adult and second, if you can play (and especially if you can play like Nita can) that should be all that matters. Loved the review and the song was kinda catchy as hell! :D

I completely agree. While I can certainly see a woman who's just good, but not great, and really beautiful, being propped up on her looks, it's completely stupid to dismiss genuine talent on the basis of sex. There's simply no reason to assume a woman can't be beautiful *and* a world class talent. With a musician all you have to do is close your eyes and listen to find the truth of that, but more than the "butthurt bros", I think a lot people have simply become quite jaded in the last few years with the "woke" narrative.

This was really good. I'm a huge fan of Disturbed and this was better than anything on their last record Evolution. David's vocals are certainly not as powerful or punchy, especially when ending phrases, as they were on earlier disturbed work but still really good. I've never listened to Nita Strauss before and she is really good in this song. I usually have a problem with solo albums from guitarists because from what I have heard their is a lot of overdone guitar work and soloing. Everything in this song felt to me like it worked to both show off her guitar skills and also create a cohesive song that flowed really well and complimented David's vocals.

Hey Tank! Great reaction as always!
Speaking of a solid hard rock sound, I would really recommend reacting to the Mexican up and comers "The Warning".
They are a band consisting of three sisters (between the ages 16 and 21 I believe), who have recently released an EP with several great songs, great production and awesome music videos.
Metallica also gave them their seal of approval by giving their cover of "Enter Sandman" (feat. Alessia Cara) the first spot their "Metallica Blacklist" realease.
I would recommend you starting off with their music video to "Diciple" as it is one of my favorite tracks from the EP and also has the coolest music video.

This song is kickass. Nita is a bad ass. She’s everywhere right now. And it’s awesome
If you want some not so much in your face metal, you should go old school and do
Savatage... and the many spinoffs Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Dr. Butcher/Jon Oliva’s Pain, Chris Caffery, Machines of Grace/Circle II Circle, and Archon Angel
Alice Cooper doesn’t just take anyone to play in his band

didn't vibe with this song at the beginning, mainly b/c of the vocals since i'm just not into Disturbed anymore, but upon your reaction and more listens, you're right, it's just a good rock song!
I first heard Nita when she featured in an Angel Vivaldi song called Serotonin, which if you wanna do a reaction to that video that would be rad. Really fun video of them almost dueling back and forth on guitars. Both excellent guitar players!

Hey Tank, I have some recommendations for you: Sojourner (multi-national band) and Duskmourn (from New Jersey). I discovered them recently on Spotify and been listening to their music over and over... check it out!

I cannot play any instrument, so I have no foundation to rate her skill. She's obviously good. Does it helps, that she is a good looking woman? For sure. But to claim, that her skills gets perceived way better than they are, because of that? I doubt it. If she would just get hired to make music videos, maybe. But (in most cases) you don't make a lasting music career just because you look good.
I liked the song, no matter if she is good or exceptional. And the reaction was informative and entertaining as always.

To be honest: never heard of her... must be an American thing... :-) Not bad.
