the take away from Anduins big moment is the monumental power it takes to do what he did while playing the game we see feats of resurrection performed normally but in cannon it takes huge huge amounts of power to bring one person back
If someone else hasn't told you this, Saurfang is deeply honorable and feels honor bound to obey his Warchief and fight for the Horde, so he's conflicted by Sylvanas's actions, if I understand things correctly. Think of him like a general following his political leader's orders, even if he personally doesn't agree with them.
On top of that, Saurfang believes in the Horde itself. He may not approve of Sylvanas' actions but he isn't fighting for Sylvanas here: he's fighting for the Horde.
exactly, Saurfang was from the same position as Thrall, Baine or Voljin. they fight for their people because they have to. They want to get a free future for their kind, so that they don´t have to sacrifice their live, like Saurfang ´s son, for the liberty of their folk. He knows that this can only be achieved through a united Horde

The problem is the sheer time it would take to make a movie of this quality. It takes several months to make these short 3 minute cinematics. So in order for blizzard to make one they would have to basically put their entire cinematic team on the project and it would still take years to do. During that time who is going to make the cinematics for their games? Could they hire more people? Certainly. Are they going to be able to find enough people that are good enough? I doubt it.
@@Maibuwolf No arguments on the logistics. It's why I said 'alternate reality' where it would even be possible. Genn has a white wolf model in game, but they gave him a grey wolf model for the cgi cinematics. It’s kinda like how Anduin isn’t nearly as baby-faced in the game as he is here.
That wolf was Genn Greymane. He and the others from his kingdom became cursed as werewolves basically. With the help of druids they were able to take control of their werewolf forms instead of being mindless animals.

While heavily conflicted and disproving of what Sylvanas did during the War of the Thorns he isn't about to sit out this battle at the Horde's gates. technicly Genn Greymane is also a King, because in the times of old the Human World had many kingdoms. Genn Greymane is the King of Gilneas, Therenas Menethil was the King of Lordaeron wich fell to his own Son Arthas and the Undead. and Anduin is now King of Stormwind, usually who his King of Stormwind is also Commander in Chief of the Alliance.
Although, Gilneas is/was a comparatively small domain compared to the other human states that were part of the original Alliance. It's probably better think of him as a so-call "petty king," whose lands and wealth put him on the level of most dukes, (who usually pledged fealty to a king proper) but he gets to call themselves king because they are politically/feudally independent.
For me with this video and having played wow for 16 years out of my 34 years of life... Seeing Sylvanas actually use her banshee scream (that's what she did in this video) was actually heart breaking. Sylvanas has hated her banshee side, and her hatred for Arthas who condemned her to this immortal afterlife. Seeing her care enough about something, protecting something she didn't want leadership of... This for me was a really impactful moment. Saurfang and Sylvanas' relationship is "complicated", Saurfang may not have agreed, at this point anyway, with Sylvanas' method - but for both of them it's not about either of them personally... It's "For the Horde". It's for the races who were treated unfairly, looked down on, enslaved, tortured and taken advantage of. The city they're defending is a city that once was an alliance city, so both of them have roots and a claim "old and new". At this point, Sylvanas is warchief... and that means that even if she is wrong, it's not Saurfang's job (or Baine) to question her decisions but to follow them. I'm so excited for you to get into the storyline, as much as WoW keeps getting things wrong with a lot of different aspect of gaming (and business), this is a pillar of my life and I will always play and have a passion for it. It's so refreshing seeing people who genuinely enjoy both WoW and XIV, I'm in love with both and I always felt like some kind of alien. xD Great vid, and welcome to Azeroth. C:
The best moment is when Anduin drops the sword. The sword was previously his father's, King Varian. Varian was the clear #1 alliance S-Tier warrior. Anduin is kind of trying to be more like his father, but he's really only more of a B-Tier warrior on one of his better days. He is however, a top tier priest, and the mass rez, probably the best priest on Azeroth. The alliance is losing the battle in no small part because Anduin is not being the Anduin he needs to be. In dropping the sword, he's letting his father go, and if you watch his face when he's channeling, it looks like he's apologizing to the light itself for calling on it in such need, when he's been somewhat ignoring it.
My favourite part of this was that they did a model of the battle at blizzcon and they included a character from some attendees. Mine was one that put in the battle.
Also, this trailer came out before we knew anything about Saurfang being upset with Sylvanas, we weren’t even sure if this trailer was supposed to happen before or after Teldrassil was burned (it happens after, btw).
Yes the wolf-man is Genn Greymane :D He is the leader of Worgen a race that can turn into werewolf like creatures who are within the alliance, and the King of the alliance as a whole is called Anduin Wrynn, that glowing sword he has was used by his father and now him and it can actually be split in half so you can dual wield it :D So this fight right here is the retaliation for what Sylvanas did to Night Elfs, also about Saurfang,he doesnt like what Sylvanas did but he still fights within Horde because its all he has, keep watching tho its gonna get more interesting :) Just be sure its chronologically in order so it will make sense to you ! :)
@@GalaxyAUS to be fair, that was pretty damn cool, but he had to show something off, since Sylvanas went into her Banshee form in that cinematic :) Oh and for the Alliance!! :D
This cinematic was released before people even knew about teldrassil burning. It was the expansion trailer. But yes you're right. Saurfang would be very conflicted. Also, that is Genn Greymane.
I think most of the confusion you feel here can be explained by the fact that this is the announcement cinematic that served to hype us up with the Horde vs Alliance theme. the warbringers and saurfang cinematic where set before this one yes but they came out after and where done to reveal more of the plot, so there's a few odd character moments because it's just a hype trailer.
This was the first video of the expansion... no one knew Sylvanas had shady plans and that Sourfang might not agree with her. It just showed the battle and got people incredibly hyped for BfA (they didn't want to give anything away). No one even knew why the hell the 2 factions were fighting again since the Legion expansion left them mostly friends... but seeing both leaders being awesome and so many species represented in the video made people really hyped. So the reason why Sourfang didn't say anything and why Zappy Boy (troll) was in the background was because we were not supposed to notice anything yet. I only noticed his poorly equipped armor after watching the cinematic where he took it off (went back fast to see if Zappy Boy survived). Also, Sourfang won't really abandon the Horde no matter what... so it makes sense he would keep fighting for the Horde even if he side eyes Sylvanas.
I remember how good this cutscene felt when they premiered it and you thought Sylvanas was, y'know, leading the Horde and trying to be a good Warchief. They really murdered the hell out of their own game between BFA/SL
I've been playing Wow since before the Burning Crusade expansion- literal years at this point, since I was a kid on my Dad's account and now I'm 22 haha. I love watching people fall further into the hole that is World of Warcraft, and I look forward to seeing you learn more about the lore and what is going on! 💜
I'll help you with a little bit of the lore since I have read the books and short stories. (You'll probably notice in my other comments that I am a lore junkie). Sylvanas wanted to destroy Stormwind, but with the Horde fleet (as well as the Alliance fleet) being decimated by the war against the Legion, the only way they could destroy Stormwind was politically. Sylvanas asked Saurfang to make a plan to march to Teldrasil and capture it, to hold it hostage. Anduin would be powerless to help the Night Elves retake Teldrasil; if he did, then the Gilneans would protest because neither Anduin nor his father helped the Gilneans retake their lands from the Foresaken. They followed Saurfang's plan EXACTLY and succeeded where a previous warlike Warchief, Garrosh Hellscream, failed. They made it to Teldrasil. However, Sylvanas is very vain. Vain to the point where she will make mistakes out of anger. As you saw in the Warbringer's cinematic, that dying Night Elf sentinel dared to pity her, insulting her vanity, and thus Sylvanas just burned the tree down. Saurfang was upset because of the innocents that died in the tree; most of the orcs who had been under the influence of the Legion in the 1st and 2nd war struggle with the memory of all of the innocents they killed. Of course, now that we have the novel "Shadow's Rising" and the expansion coming up, some of Sylvanas' actions in Battle for Azeroth are making more sense to me.
Saurfang only didn't like what sylvanas did because he thought it was dishonorable, but he didn't really *care* what he cares about is honor and the horde.
Yes, that is Genn Greymane. He's a werewolf, so he morphs into a wolf for battle and stays in human form otherwise. The spell that Anduin cast was a mass heal since he's a priest by choice.
you know you're an FFXIV player when you say "imagine having to cut holes for your ears" XD it is nice that us miqote in FF get special hat models shaped around our ears
Don't worry about not understanding the characters/lore of WoW fully after only playing for a little while. The lore side is absolutely massive. I have all the books and the lore is probably my favourite part of the game
Saurfang remains loyal to the Horde. Since he is a general, he takes orders from Sylvanas because she is warchief. You are correct that Saurfang does not approve of Sylvanas burning Teldrassil. There is no honor in murdering civilians. As an aggressive act of war, it will anger the Alliance to a harsh retaliation. Saurfang is no coward but nor is he a reckless fool. Notice in this cinematic that Saurfang had a clear shot at Anduin. He could have cleaved him in two with that axe. Instead, Saurfang merely slams his axe handle across the King's breastplate knocking him flat on his back. He spares Anduin's life. There is some backstory that might explain that, a debt of honor to Anduin's father when Saurfang lost a son of his own. There is a later cinematic in which Anduin asks Saurfang the reason and the general explains. I like the relationship between Anduin and Greymane. Greymane has also lost a son, the heir to his title. He has attached himself to Anduin with all of a father's love. Anduin is only 18 in this battle and still mourns his father. That is Varian's sword he wields. Though the young king has a much cooler head and greater command of his passions than the worgen, Greymane's devotion is a comfort. Genn is a bit of a mother hen toward Anduin, volunteering advice the king politely ignores. But even this is a welcome distraction from his grief. King Varian Wyrnn was a mighty warrior. Anduin chose to be a priest like his mother Queen Tiffin. She died when he was just an infant. In WOW, a priest cannot equip plate armor or a sword. Blizzard explains that since Anduin is a hero class NPC, exceptions are allowed. That golden dome Anduin generates during the battle is a mass healing spell.
for all who think she's cool when crying out for the horde, remember kids: she could have avoided it ;) PS: ''Ive never seen her do that b4'' I was the same when watching the cinematic and I was like ''oh yeah, she's a banshee, I almost forgot'' PPS: ''what's he doing?'' That's called [Mass Ressurrection], a perk you could obtain when your guild was at max lvl where you could instantly revive all party or raid members instantly having a huge cooldown of 1h (if i remember) but eventually it no longer became available XD
Theres been so many bad years with below average expansions, yet every single cinematic rips into my heartstrings. I grew up with Warcraft I,II and III. Been following the universe from the start. Read almost all the books and know pretty much all the lore there is. I just hope theres redemption ahead for the game itself
Saurfang still dosent like what Sylvanas have done with the Horde but he still cares for the members of the Horde so he still fights for the Horde. It´s only later into the expansion that Saurfang goes against her despite that he would be fighting other Horde members. She is almost free to do whatever she wants in the world if u think about it. An army would force her to relocate but who could actully stand a chans against her if it came down to a fight. She even soloed the Lich King (Bolvar) and it dident really look that hard. Ofc this Lich King dident have Frostmourne so he was significantly! weaker then the Lich King we fought. But even with just the helm this Lich King was no pushover.
The in game event was brilliant on the horde side, not that much on the alliance side from my point of view. Regarding Sylvanas and Saurfang, reme, ber the motivation of the highlord Saurfang; if fight to liberate the horde, to give it a future, where younger generation could live. this all because his son sacrificed his life for the Horde. Saurfang fights because he has to, like Thrall, Baine or Voljin, contrary to Garrosh or Sylvanas.
You were definitely not the only one confused. Since the trailer came out before Sylvanas Warbringers it made it sound very much like the Alliance were the aggressors. So a lot of people were really confused when Warbringers came out and detailed that Sylvanas had struck first, because now, it felt like this trailer was out of place. I know that is how I felt. (Along with disappointment of once again the Horde being the aggressors.) One thing I do know for sure, is that I absolutely love this cinematic! (While the rest of BfA can be debated on how well it was written.) I for one, can at least enjoy seeing my girl in awesome movie quality animation and see some epic scenes from both sides without making the other look too extremely bad. (As my joy with WoW had always been the ambiguous who is actually right?)
Saurfang is dead. (sorry, spoiler).. Genn is grey. Yeah, so Saurfang was a horde leader and was honorably following Sylvanas's leadership until she went a little genocide-y on the tree. Saurfang (and Zekhan aka "zappy boi") go off to muster a resistance to Sylvannas. See the final BFA cinematic. It's pretty hardcore.
It's been years and still, this cinematic gives me goosebumps every single time.

Only arthas could ressurect more people before, here you can see that anduin has strong bond with the light
I've been playing since vanilla and this girl already knows more names than me
Witness how a really BIG and deep game looks like.
Sylvanas going full queen banshee mode. Love her
Your hair colour is so awesome! Love it
i always watch world of warcraft reactions especially the bfa cinematic for me its the best one
I really like Classic, WotLK, and Cataclysm, but BFA is somewhere on that list.
Anduinn is technically a Priest who wears Plate. He cast Mass Resurrect to save his troops.
Saurfang was Sylvanas's captain, he later turned against her
I remember how good this cutscene felt when they premiered it and you thought Sylvanas was, y'know, leading the Horde and trying to be a good Warchief. They really murdered the hell out of their own game between BFA/SL
Watch the Expansion Trailers. Starting with the Burning Crusade
Patch cinematics for the win!!! Starting with the warsong gulch trailer 👌
the tragedy of the Shadowlands cinematic is even more apparent after you watch this one again and remember how exciting it was
nice review! you must do the WotLK cinematic too!
same. I love wow. have a bunch of wow tats. it always makes me happy seeing people get into it after never touching it.
Well, Sylvanas is Warchief, appointed by the previous Warchief as his dying wish.
Of course, now that we have the novel "Shadow's Rising" and the expansion coming up, some of Sylvanas' actions in Battle for Azeroth are making more sense to me.
the best cinematic in my opinion . the prince was proceed the mass ressurection i guess
every time i watch it i have to rewatch carbot version
Sylvanas Banshee mode is my favorit part.
She didnt do that since Warcraft 3 :D
Saurfang only didn't like what sylvanas did because he thought it was dishonorable, but he didn't really *care* what he cares about is honor and the horde.
Yes, that is Genn Greymane. He's a werewolf, so he morphs into a wolf for battle and stays in human form otherwise. The spell that Anduin cast was a mass heal since he's a priest by choice.
He's more than a priest. Remember the leaders have classes other than the standard ones that players can choose.
@@Feriin True but he studied to be a priest in his youth.
@@MrZargon28 Personally, i think he did a mass resurrection.
Afterlives, Harbingers, Lords of War next? They are a same slideshow format as Warbringers you like! :)
In game back when pala W3 res was an AoE for 10 unites
As others said, watch them in order, then it will make more sense. Enjoy!
you know you're an FFXIV player when you say "imagine having to cut holes for your ears" XD it is nice that us miqote in FF get special hat models shaped around our ears
Hahaha yes! Although the metal helmets for miqote look a little funny lmao 🤣
Don't worry about not understanding the characters/lore of WoW fully after only playing for a little while. The lore side is absolutely massive. I have all the books and the lore is probably my favourite part of the game
Yes, she has done that banshee thing before because warcraft 3 and lore.
i would highly suggest checking out a lore video by Nobbel87. Way more going on then what is alluded to in the cinematics.
To be fair, the Warcraft lore can be all over the place at times. Particularly with BFA
People visually resurrecting "WhAtS hE dOiNg?"
The people who make these cinematics should be given $100 million and a Netflix series.
Sylvanas is Saurfang's boss, basically.
FOR THE ALLIANCE!!!!!
my man
Also keep this in mind teldrasil hasnt happened yet based on this video. So he is still following her cause she hasnt burned it yet
2:12 King Leonardo DiCaprio
Don't worry, the plot thickens on the Horde side...
Warbringers Azshara, Sylvannas, and Jaina!!!
Saurfang, the TRUE leader of the Horde. LOK'TAR OGAR!
Sylvannas is dark lady to
for all who think she's cool when crying out for the horde, remember kids: she could have avoided it ;)
PS: ''Ive never seen her do that b4'' I was the same when watching the cinematic and I was like ''oh yeah, she's a banshee, I almost forgot''
PPS: ''what's he doing?'' That's called [Mass Ressurrection], a perk you could obtain when your guild was at max lvl where you could instantly revive all party or raid members instantly having a huge cooldown of 1h (if i remember) but eventually it no longer became available XD
Theres been so many bad years with below average expansions, yet every single cinematic rips into my heartstrings. I grew up with Warcraft I,II and III. Been following the universe from the start. Read almost all the books and know pretty much all the lore there is. I just hope theres redemption ahead for the game itself
Basically if Saurfang didn't back them in that fight he'd die and not have a Horde left to fight to get back.
But even with just the helm this Lich King was no pushover.
this trailer happens before Teldrassil
Anduin OP mass battle rez for the win
The in game event was brilliant on the horde side, not that much on the alliance side from my point of view.
Regarding Sylvanas and Saurfang, reme, ber the motivation of the highlord Saurfang; if fight to liberate the horde, to give it a future, where younger generation could live. this all because his son sacrificed his life for the Horde.
Saurfang fights because he has to, like Thrall, Baine or Voljin, contrary to Garrosh or Sylvanas.
For the horde for 16 years and counting! See you in shadowlands..
Loving your reactions! New sub here :)
Welcome aboard!
MASS REST baby!!
Sylvanus is a banshee. nuff said
Blizzard Entertainment and Square Enix, the two best cinematic makers in the game business in my opinion.
Sylvanas Windrunner The Banshee Queen 😍 😍
this cinematic is 10/10=))
i'm in love
For the Alayaaa
Saurfang is dead. (sorry, spoiler).. Genn is grey. Yeah, so Saurfang was a horde leader and was honorably following Sylvanas's leadership until she went a little genocide-y on the tree. Saurfang (and Zekhan aka "zappy boi") go off to muster a resistance to Sylvannas. See the final BFA cinematic. It's pretty hardcore.
Anduin hax, you can't mass rez in combat. Ban that dude!
For The Horde !!!
