Are you exposed to UV light only if you sun-bathe...or are there other ways of UV light exposition?

I was just diagnosed with a pterygium in my left eye 😢 I am only 31 and it’s in the very early stages but I hate the way it looks in my eye!! Will it always get worse or could it stop growing? Anything I could do to prevent it from growing other than wearing sunglasses? Thanks for the video!
My sister has had multiple prerygiums and multiple surgeries including mid last year and another is already growing in her other eye. This happens in both eyes. She never goes in the sun and when she does always wears sun glasses and has done so for years. It is becoming very frustrating for her as she is a very healthy person otherwise. She can't keep having surgeries. 😢
It could be happening due to irritation from pollen or other debris even smoke

I have it too in my left eye,
I don't know about others but for my case. When I close my right eye and look with left eye only. it causes to changes the shapes of everything. such as human's face text or anything else. the vision sees everything like you would look something through to the water bottle or water drops.
Hi Dr. Lee, ive had a pterygium in my right eye for some years now. It’s definitely from years of sun damage. I am seeking to have Lasik done very soon… I will talk to my doctor about having it removed, but I don’t think medical insurance covers it, unless it is impeding the pupil.
I also have what I think is a pinguecula in the left eye
Thanks for sharing! Insurance plans are all over the board on what they will or will not cover, but a lot of them would cover surgery if you are irritated or bothered by the pterygium - it really depends on how early the pterygium is and if it causes any issues for you. Best of lluck!

Hi. I have a pterygium. It is a white thing on my eye and it covers the edge of the colored part. There are blood vessels. It seemed to have appeared there suddenly. I want to have it removed.
I have it on my right eye in the corner near my nose to the cornea, and now it looks like it might be developing on my left eye on both sides of the cornea. I hate the way it looks and interested in seeing if surgery is an option because I don't spend lots of time outside.
Great video! I recently saw a young patient who presented with a nasal pterygium on her left eye only. She had all the common symptoms like irritation and redness. I asked her if she does anything outdoors that might expose her to a lot of sun. She’s relatively simple, only going on walks and runs and would wear sunglasses. Then I asked her the key question: where was she from? Sure enough, she’s from South America, where the sun can be very harsh!

@@williamli7477 castor oil drops wouldn't help with a pterygium. It can removed only with surgery.

Hi Dr. michele can i ask something about alcon tears natural ll. can i use it as at treatment in my eyes bcoz in my right eye particularly in lower part of sclera ther is a small white gel growth fleshy tissue just like a thin ring. i dont know if its a pterigium...can i get an advice from you. tnx
It's hard for me to advise you without looking at your eyes. Does the growth seem to have gotten bigger? If so, I would highly advise you get it checked out by an eye doctor. Best of luck ❤
tnx for your advice.. and as i observe the fleshy thin tissue is not growing and its the same size... and this is 1month old already.. and sometime my right eyeball is alittle bit hurt but in a few second the pain is gone after i massage it genlty...

What to do both of eyes have ptyregium and its getting bigger it already reach the black of eyes.

I got pterygium in my right eye. Live in Sweden and I don't think I have exposed my eyes for so much sun. But I always had a problem with dry eyes. I'm very worried about an operation. I have itchy red eyes and a lot of pain.

I had surgery 2 months ago, and the Pterygium is coming back in the same eye again, not sure if I should go for 2 nd surgery.
I just got my right eye done , on May 22nd
It went smooth,but honestly I hate the fact that my eye is in such discomfort.

Hello. My son is seeing a pediatric ophthalmologist. His pcp believes he had this. Is this common in children? He’s only 7
my 8 month old has it on both corners on the same eye...for about a week now....what can i do?

It comes every year goes automatically but in july 2023 my life changed forever this time it damaged both my eyes permanently it came only in left eye but somehow right too got damaged and becoming worse day by day😢😢😢

Hi there, if the pterygium is really large, there is probably not much more that could be done. If the pterygium is small but irritating, you can ask your eye doctor if you would benefit from some steroid eye drops for the symptoms. Hope that answers your question!

i got one from a hot bur while drilling and another from a bug spraying me
I passed out at beach for 2 hour . Sand mustve cause it or uv. But it hasnt grown almost half a year. First time seen it i put 2 full eyedrop bottle everyday
