First time I've actually heard an explanation of how to start/fly a helicopter. It is pretty complicated but I guess if you do it a dozen times or so it'll become second nature-good vid.
First, this turbine Mosquito may just be the ultimate expression of flight. It's what we all dream of, but- is somewhat outside of the fixed wing focus of most beginner pilots. The concept of lifting off, hovering and controlled flight in it is straight up AWESOME. Wierd, but, practicing power off landings (auto rotate) in a $50k experimental scares the life out of me! So, as exciting, cool and great as it seems- I'll watch you, OK? Apparently, middle age and self preservation prevent me from truly considering a Mosquito, Mike. Obviously, thank you- I'll watch every minute you post up on it!
Honestly- a personal helicopter with enough power & strength (Mosquito XEL) is incredibly tempting. Heck, it even sounds right, and, it definitely looks awesome, but, i think the glide ratio is, umm ZERO. Thanks to Mike's interest, I checked out some other videos of them in flight- very agile and capable in the right hands. I get completely stuck with the possible falling out of the air- OK- stopping descent using hard or immovable objects- i.e. the ground. Parachute? Airbag? I even watched auto- gyro vids in an effort to overcome it- I'm just too old. Sooo tempting, but... I sense that I'm gonna have to watch you & Mike post up videos, maybe even come & watch some time, but, gravity, fear of heights, an over-developed sense of self-preservation, total wimpiness prevent me from flying one- under any circumstances. Promise to cheerlead from the sidelines tho in my ground based lawn chair, OK? I DID a helicopter trip into the volcanos in Hawaii years ago... I'm out. More seat time for you tho :)
Actually if you get the proper training and understanding how to maintain them not any more risk then owning any type of GA aircraft notice how I say GA reality is all GA has some risk try to manage it with proper training. The cost and build time is what is really good the problem I see is getting a PPL rating for helicopters according to website $15k is what they charge. If you register the thing with the FAA can land at most airports. Autorotating is safer then trying to find a place to land a Cessna. You should go take an intro flight training and have them do some auto's and explain how it works.
Thank you blastman8888- I agree wholeheartedly. I was so interested, I did a ton more research, watched a lot of auto-rotate vids (and Mosquito's specifically), so, now I 'get' the over rev clutch, inertial rotor mass concept and just how much energy gets stored. I'm a strong project starter, but, get easily distracted on long ones, so, I would have to buy used, or, mostly complete (at a steep discount either way!). I thought it was less expensive if you have your PPL (more like an added certification + training + rental)- because that's real money as well. In my research, I noted a 500 TBO, but- unsure of what's involved, or, costs. Fixed wing is an expensive hobby, even after the hump of obtaining your PPL. Buying is whole new world of cash flow, even if you are super careful. Apparently, I'm now both a wimp & to Yankee (cheap) to consider a Mosquito. But, hey- it was a ton of fun learning about it & fun to dream about. I guess I'd like to see an R22, or, a Schweitzer 300 in action- just to get a feel for noise, rotor wash, size in person...
@@Mike-01234 I bet they won't hire you as occasional pilot (so you can pay for it after) just because you have a license (like trucking) unless you build lots of hours with your own helicopter?

I love the look of this little helicopter to me I think it would be the absolute perfect thing for people who own large pieces of property like ranch or even for border security you could put many helicopters of this size in a hanger and they would make up for a large one plus you can have more people in the air and at such a huge less expense of maintaining a large helicopter such as a bell

With rotor hight being low would be kinda neat to put a high powered lazor pointer in the tip of the blade pointing a few degrees out so you could see the blade diameter while close to the ground and around people. It could even be done with a fiber optic so it would not add any weight at the rotor tip.
What I would really love to see from Composite FX is an electric mosquito. Something redundant, with 5 small brushless motors. That would be 3 for the main rotor and 2 for the anti torque. They could mount those main motors up high by the swashplate and the 2 on the back can go far back in the tail boom. Then the battery pack can go where the fue tank is in the 285. All that space can be used for battery banks. That would give it a lot of extra space behind the pilot, allowing the fuselage to be extended a little back for storage capacity. Tell this to Composite FX. The technology is there a d there is a lot of advantages by going electric including the huge sound reduction this thing will have.
Hello, a guy from the internet here to ruin everything 2 years late. Even today with improved batteries gasoline is about 100 times more energy-dense than lithium-ion. Granted electric converts at around 70% efficiency in a good system while gas turbines are around 15% efficient. Let's ignore the 5 electric engines' weight vs one turbine (its actually in favor of the turbine). Energy density alone is the reason you don't see an electric mosquito. Gas is the way to go for power to weight until a battery reaches about 1/5th the energy density....or about 20 times better than what we currently have. In 2022 the Jetson and the SkyDrive are starting to make what you are describing but the same energy density issue makes their range significantly reduced and their cost significantly increased.
@@Hierax415 thanks for your reply. I had forgotten about my comment already. I preffer electric for the sole reason of sound reduction. Electric planes are way less noisy than their oiston engine or turbine counterparts.

These things are surprisingly inexpensive, all things considered. This model shown, the XET, is basically the company top of the line. The kit (not fully assembled) is about 44k, while the factory completed version is 55k. But honestly the XE285 is almost identical in all respects, with the key difference being fuel burn, and therefore flight time. The XET with the basic 12gal tank has a 1hr flight time, which can get to 1.9hr if you have the aux.tank for a total of 20gal. The XE285 on the other hand has the same tanks but basically doubles the flight time. And it has virtually the exact same specs otherwise. A 3-4hr flight time is certainly respectable, but the basic tank with an XET giving you 1hr flight time? That's kind of piddly all things considered....
Haha seems complicated but remember your first time getting into a piston and watching the instructor start it or that look when you take a passenger up for the 1st time and go through your start checklist. Its all learnable.

You don't memorize checklists. Unnecessary risk to forget items. Even the most seasoned pilots will read them from a list.
Kannada
bull shit
Tem a bandeira do Brasil, yes top🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷😎
Would love to own one. Would love to fly one. Any idea on the cost?
I would be interested if this flies in acro (manuel) mode or if it is auto leveling.
By the time the pilot sat in the cockpit I had already forgotten everything he said......
It’s like renting a chain saw from Home Depot, now that he explained it you can fly it
Someone is thinking how cool it would be to put a LS engine in there
F165 with a big turbo
That pilot is a paragon of patience and knowledge. His face tells some tales and I mean that with the utmost respect and admiration. And pardon my forwardness but please get checked for parkinson's if you haven't already.
Does this helicopter have stability control? like a drone?
First time flying it...In the middle of all those trees...perfect
Thanks for uploading this video!!! nice and clear explanation!
It feels so weird that when I watch any kind of video that involves heights in or on buildings my fear of heights kicks in and freaks me out big time. However I can watch videos about flying all day long and not feel a single ounce of fear.
Como Fasso para comprar uma aeronave dessa??
