That first blast of nitromethane at around the 1:30 mark is one the coolest sounds on earth. The first time I heard a change-over was October, 1981 at Orange County International Raceway and I HAVE BEEN HOOKED EVER SINCE. Thanks and Semper Fi!
@@lilorbielilorbie2496 Yes indeed my friend, too many memories to list. Sad that it's gone but grateful that I had an opportunity to experience O.C.I.R. That place was unique, definitely had its own vibe. Glad you got to experience it all as well. Take care my friend, Semper Fidelis!
Have u noticed? There's always an old school grey haired dude helping out with these old motors. Seems like there a dying breed, nobody knows these old motors anymore. Vintage stuff
If an engine built for street use sounds like a cacophony of shotguns, as cool as that is there's probably something wrong with it. Even with open headers an engine running on pump gas will not crackle as hard as this.
The sweetest sound in motor racing, ever.
Oh hells yes.
Dat cackle, tis why I cut my first stock muffler off over 20 years back.
Just for a taste of the same sort of badassery.
Awake the Dragon!
The transition is so amazing. Honestly get chills every time I hear it
I always love it when they go from high idling engine on alcohol to fire spitting and earthshaking and eardrum splitting monster on nitro

@@chrisnizer1885 Yes it is sad that it's gone. Really the birth place of Drag Racing Southern California and there's really no place to go race.
O.C.I.R. & POMONA. my Dad & I went there sooo much ❤
THAT is one of the reasons I'm a drag race fan
Wheel chock and fire suit are the best. Old school baby,
I think these old 392s crackle better than the 426s
Agreed Probably the setup but seems like there's Just a different sound to them
Sounds like absolute hellfire. Love it
Cackle; flames; love FED's- - - I own and drive one.

Lol yeah but spelled wrong or not we knew exactly what you're talking about! 😉
Right there with you, brother. 😅
Good to see Joe in this video, I was there when they fired this old hot rod up!
Gasoline is for washing parts, alcohol is for drinking, nitromethane ........
That's sounds ace, I'm english and don't understand this Americana but I love it
If haven't already done so, get yourself along to Santa Pod raceway, Northants.👍

That crackle.
Flame'n'Thunder
Music to my ears!
The only cars you;ll find in both heaven and hell.

I wish i could just toss one of these motors in a 68 convertible and just go for a cruise down coast of california
Edit: with the top down
All is not quiet on the Western Front, says the driver in the gas mask
That was a let down. My mildly built 350 sounds just like it
My honda with vtec sounds like this.
The db output that this is putting out just blows out the microphone
