  • DCC power is applied to Atlas Custom Line turnouts through Tortoise switch machines. I demonstrate how I wire the frog of an Atlas #4 turnout, how it is connected to the tortoise and how to test it with a multimeter.

I have two LH No 8 switches by Atlas and the tab is on the outside, but I have yet to wire it for polarity since it works fine without it.

Yes, the #8's have the tab on the outside, the #4 and #6 are inside. I power all of my frogs, it's just how I like to do it. There's no rule that says frogs must be powered, you do what works best for you.

    Nice update.
The Smoke Genie deiced to escape my computer last night. She has refused to go back into the mother board. So I'm out of the video business for a few weeks tell I get a new computer. Granted the PC is is over 7 years old, I would still like to get a new PC on my terms and not just to the whims of the Smoke Genie.

Hard to put the magic blue smoke back in. I usually build a new PC every 4 years, but I'm a bit of a computer nerd and stay current with what's what in PC hardware. Prices for last gen components aren't too bad if you plan to build your own. We'll see your layout again when you get back up.

Please, Please, Please - as one who has split open a knuckle doing the same thing as you did with the cut off wheel - - hold the work piece in your needle nose pliers. All you need to do is a slight faux pas and you will end up with a red landscape and a nice scar.
Regarding the video, thanks. I am just about to lay track with the same type of switches.

Yes I could use better judgement, I suppose that's while I'm missing part of one of my fingers. Haha. Best of luck with your track work! Everything on my layout has performed very well so have confidence your parts will perform well.
