Beautiful Portugal! How I envy you those pastries ;) I have to share with you that I love Tara's wardrobe, it's so pretty! All the best! Can't wait to see another episode :D
Gorgeous video guys. Lisbon looks so divine and loved your exposition of it. Crusoe gradually taking over the series though; there he is, cute as a button and having a bit to say from time to time. He’s a natural.
Thanks so much Flaneur, and boy did we love Lisbon, can’t wait to go back! And yes, Crusoe is taking over the show in more ways than one - he’s definitely centre stage at home too, how could he not be, right? Thanks for tuning in friend, see you next week 😎 ☀️ 👍🏼
Loving your videos from Portugal and like how you always give some information about where you are and what you're visiting. Great for us stuck at home! Crusoe is adorable
Thank you so much Claire, it’s a great reason for us to do some research about where we are, we learn so much because we want to share it, such a fun part of the whole project. Thanks so much for watching, we’re really grateful and look out for next weeks video - our favourite part of Portugal by far! Have a great week x
Great to see Lisbon, the city of seven hills. You soon learn that everything in Portugal is UP. Don't feel so bad about missing the elevator is is not worth €5s. There is no clear view anywhere from the top (locals do not recommend it at all!) Yes, the pastries on Portugal are amazing. It only takes one to get addicted and, three years later, I am still trying to shed the kilos I gained eating pastries (to my shame, one day I skipped supper and just add a huge amount of pastries!). Again, love your videos. Oh, if you like castles and medieval history a visit to Tomar is a must which has a strong connection with the Knights Templar.
Hello Mike! Thanks for tuning in again, and really good to hear we didn’t miss out on too much with the elevator, that €5 was definitely better spent on pastries!! No shame in pastries for dinner we say, life’s too precious to deprive oneself of yet another custard tart! Tomar sounds great thanks, we will add it to the list for our return journey. Have a great week and see you next Sunday!!
Morning Mike, just to let you know a little Newby update. We are home in the UK now and sat at home in quarantine. It’s been a crazy busy week or so (more on that later in the year!) hope you received our email and do look out for a postcard, we are hoping one arrives with you this week or early next. 👍😊
Thanks so much Emma, we so appreciate you being here and pleased to hear that the custard tarts cheered up a rainy day! This coming Sunday takes us to our favourite part of Portugal yet! What a country! See you next week 😎 ☀️
Another great video started off by adorable Crusoe, custard tarts and what a find the last village was. I really appreciate the information you give on each place you go to, it’s very enjoyable. See you next week
Thanks so much Jane, we so appreciate that and are thrilled that you’re enjoying the info as well as the adventures. Have a great week snd see you Sunday, next video shares our favourite part of Portugal so we’re super excited! 😎
Hi both, stumbled across your channel whilst researching for my Scotland van tour later this year and now I'm making my way through your videos. I just had to let you know that I spotted some Portuguese custard tarts in my local coop today and can confirm they are delicious! Guess I'll have to plan a trip to Portugal to see how the OG's compare 🤣
Hey Lucy!!! Great to hear from you and thanks so much for saying hi! Ahh yes - I’ve sampled them too and can confirm that they’re the real deal, but of course a trip to Portugal just to be sure has to be on the cards 😉 thanks for being here and have a great time in Scotland, it’s magic in a van!
More fabulous footage of wonderful Portugal and great to see you enjoying it and your insights on missing vanlife. We just picked up our van this week and can't wait to get away asap. Crusoe clearly thriving on the flexible life - his 'constants' are you so he can experience so much with the comfort of you! Well done to you both and your broad and positive thinking. ❤️👍
Morning Susan, great to hear from you. How is sunny Scotland? Where will you head off in your van? Very exciting!!! Thanks so very much for your support. Crusoe is frowning well and is a turning out to be a patient curious little fella, long may that remain the case!! Enjoy your van friend. See you soon! 👍🚐🚐🚐🙏🏴
Wow! Another great video, such informative but easy viewing, you two are stars……but please remember, Crusoe is the Superstar, just now he is totally dependent on John and Tara, he is very happy and secure in your love for him. Fast forward 30 years and he may be leading you two. His upbringing is idyllic, take care and have a great week, look forward to watching your next video 😎😎😎
Ahhh thank you guys! That's a brilliant comment to wake up to, we so appreciate it. Haha and - dont you worry, Crusoe is dominating the centre of the universe and superstar status on and off the screen entirely! We hope to raise him to be brave and to know the world as the beautiful exciting place that we know it is. What an adventure it will be watching him grow. Thank you for being a part of the journey.
My parents were in Portugal in the 1990's. My Mom Loved it there. She said Many wonderful things about the Country. She passed away last year, she would have Loved to see your videos. I will have to look through her photo albums at her photos from her visit there. Thank you for sharing. God Bless you and your family. ☺️
Thanks Pamela! Sorry to hear about your mum, sound like she had a wonderful life. 🙏 What a lovely comment to read. Thank you friend. we are having so much fun here and the farm. Great to have you joining us. 🙏🇵🇹🏡

We looooove markets, second hand stores etc. That´s were you do all the fun and interestings purchase! Thanks guys for this fab video!
Hi Meinart! Blimey, Tara sounds just like Monica. Loves shopping. Thankfully second hand stuff is often a bit cheaper than new stuff so the money does go that little bit further! Thanks for watching friend. 👍🛍🙏
@@TheNewbys I can proudly & honestly say that our home is 75% filled with recycled second hand items. In witch store can you buy a handcarved Buddha tablet for 1,20 Pounds???
Love it! Not sure that we can say the same, but it’s certainly something to aspire to, that and a house with less “stuff” in it. Remember Steve Jobs and his empty house, that sounds perfect!!

Just ADORED when you suddenly realised you had the RIGTH to go in the front of the line for pastéis de Belém by carrying Crusoe!!! TOTALLY!!! 🤩💕👏👏👏💞 Just one mistake: never, ever, you take just one. They're too small. Two per person, allways! Or more, if you're like me...🤭
Hi Jose, thanks for your comment, great tip we absolutely must visit Obidos, thanks. We are pretty sure that fairly soon we will be heading back to Portugal, so we will add it to the list. Thanks for watching! 👍🙏
How funny! I have never heard the term, "lawnmower" for a car! You have convinced me that I would like to live in Portugal!! ♥️ What a cool and comfy place to stay the night....in a boat!!! That custard tart sound so good that I am going to look for a recipe! 😋
Wow! Portugal looks like a great place to visit. Ive never seen those places before. You are an excellent tour guide Tara. I love your videos and your voice. Cant wait for your next family adventure. Love from Australia. 🐨
John, Mike my hubby also had a terrible fear of heights. At least you attempted that walk!! Mike would've been waiting at the bottom, for us to get back to him!! He was not afraid of flying in aeroplanes or of hanging out of helicopters, while they were in flight!!!
I also love a good Melktert - the South African custard tart, which I usually make for Xmas now! Enjoying your tour of Portugal - love the sound of their language, but so hard to learn! I tried when I went to Brazil......but left it alone ........I love Fado music though!
Must be really lovely waking up to a crisp dewy morning everything looks fresh doesn't it...I like the white painted wall its because you aren't used to it...your home made produce look delicious..its 42c down here inthe Alentejo ❤
Little known geeky fact - Henry the Navigator never actually went to sea! He was responsible for sponsoring much though in the dawn of the age of discovery.
Morning Dave, great fact one that we did not know. Henry was a bit of a dude by the sounds of things. Thanks for the info friend. See you next Sunday!! 👍🙏
So, how did you end up not driving the van? Ah, I gather Covid has got your van in the UK without you? John, if you think you traveled light, my Dad once had to fly to Chicago for a funeral. He put on his suit, put socks in one pocket, his razor, comb and toothbrush in his breast pocket, and a clean shirt in a manilla mailing envelope and got on a plane! Now that's traveling light! I went to the Belem Tower on the river that used to be on land before the earthquake, the monument to the Portuguese Explorers, the old town on the tram, the city square, and drank lots of port! I love Lisbon! I wish I was there again.

As beautiful as it is, we agree, there’s no substitute for a van.
I can’t believe someone was clever enough to clad the facade with leftover tiles 🤩
Hahaha smart huh! John and his dodgy info…I’ve got to be on my guard constantly 😂😂
