I just love the thin line between tragic villains and spiteful shitlords the Iron Warriors thread. It lines perfectly with the inconsistency of their own Primarch (thanks to the 50 different authors writing about him).
i have mixed feelings about the iron warriors and perty. the “kill every 10th man” is massive douche energy. but in one of the books fulgrim shows him a vision of perty’s utopia on his home planet, with perty a peaceful scholar leading and governing his people, and there’s more insight when the setting is perty’s personal chambers/workshop. he created so much stuff, including a perfectly working tiny warhound titan. then he smashed the mini titan with fulgrim’s face and it was pretty funny.
I just realized the visions of good lives many Primarchs and other people in 40K have been shown could very easily co-exist. Which makes me wonder....is their universe even real to them or is it *they* who are the "what if" vision existing through the Warp's energies unleashed by the birth of Slaanesh? Perhaps their "visions" are actually them seeing the true reality and the setting is just a nightmare in the Warp. It would be very 40K for that to be revealed and, by extension, that all of their trials and suffering and victories for ten millennia never meant anything at all because the very universe they live in does not exist. They just think it does.
Well not exactly for no reason. Perturabo saw his legion as failures due to their not so great combat record so he ordered the elimination of a tenth of his legion as a purge/punishment. Its inspired by a roman practice in the legions when the randombly choosen 10th legionare gets the punishment.
I LOVE the Iron Warriors for being smarter than most Space Marine chapters, Loyalist AND Traitor, by blowing up their enemies with giant guns rather than charge into melee. They also don't really worship or trust any particular daemons like the other Traitors. Instead they just catch them, shove them into machines, and make them fight like Pokemon with guns. So Digimon, basically.
So well said! I love them personally. Their cold, emotionless efficiency and war machines are down right terrifying to face in battle. In my mind they're not really all that corrupted like the other traitor legiona, they're just f*cking evil! For example their daemonculaba project sums them up quite well. Cold, efficient and focused on their goal no matter the cost or collateral damage. They just don't give a f*uck.
After heresy? Probably the Emperor's children because they are rapey traitor heretic to the imperium and some fucked up dudes that never stay focus on the mission to other traitors space marines.
Perturabo: a super nerd who knows everything and builds wonders the likes that no common man could even dream of, let alone create. Also Perturabo: hey guys, let's fight and die like if WW1 never ran out of style, despite having spaceships, guns, tanks and supersoldiers!
"Dad! Dad! Dad!" "Nice to meet you at last, son (sort of). Here, have a legion. They're your sons (sort of)." "Thanks!" "... is it me or is your legion... smaller?" "Oh! Yeah, I had 9/10 of them beat the other 10% to death." "..." "Didn't want to waste the ammo." "..." "That'll learn 'em."
Same. Lots of sssss sounds and the improved raw sounds a bit better. But really, there all about the same. I would honestly say whatever is easier and less likely to f up on you in the long run.

I think a big part you missed was that he actually liked making things that benefitted people more than damaging but his “dads” kept using him for his violence. Just interesting. He had a bunch of plans and schematics but nobody cared about those. I used to think magnus’ fall was the worst but after reading his book I changed my mind. That part with his sister scolding him too was great. Essential saying dude the emporer loved, trusted and appreciated you the most that’s why he sent you to shit places because he knew you could handle it.
Or rather: "You are the ONLY one who can handle those, because you are so great in your perception and understanding of the situation, my son". Smth like that was there.
I think perty ascended to deamonhood because he was slowly dieing from what fulgrim did to him, i don't see any other viable reasoning since he rejected nurgle, maybe he saw it as his only way to escape death, at least that's my theory.
Now that i think about it who technically owns the souls of the chaos primarch demons of undivided Belakor? It seems weird to have 4 different gods own your soul and your some how not a puddle of chaos spawn
Saw a theory that pert just did what corax did and kinda harnessed the warp cause corax is now practically a deamon prince right and people thought he was a deamon so pert might have done something similar.
We train with those okay? Don’t knock it til you try it. We commended Ancient Vyron on his round ball called a ‘Death Star’ creation. It truly is quite magnificent!
I only see Perty getting more screen time when and if Dorn return. As scary as the tyranids and necrons are the thing that they lack is a personal conection as enemies. Sure most want to kill all humans but I find more interest in antagonist that want represent a threat to a single character or faction that I like, the fight is more interesting that way. Perty vs Dorn us obvious but I would like to read abot Angron vs our hawk boy as Angron is a twisted mirror what the blood angels could have been. Heck Magnus most memorable war crimes were against the space wolves.
Honestly if they remained renegades instead of falling to chaos making them look like hypocrites they would be my favorite chapter. Their primarch while winey had moments of badassery. One notable moment being when he went against demon form angron.
You know all the Primarch seem to have daddy issues and more than half of them act like actual children but Perturabo actually acts like a toldler built like a mechanical planet.
Barnaby Duggan Dude simply became somewhat of a favorite but not in the way he’d liked, Emps noticed his conviction and faith so why no send your toughest son too the toughest fights though Perty was an idiot and didn’t actually use tactics but merely loved grinding meat and metal and hearing the sound, also dude was not the most put together of course; his cold logic wasn’t really grounded beyond himself and his daddy issues which was his real fall.
@@malekiththeeternityking5433 Emperor I think I know why you played favoritism. You sure are a pragamtic asshole but one that never wavered to sacrfice himself for Mankind

“NO! we’re not going to throw the will of eternity at cadia, just strap massive guns to it and we have a valuable resource you fuck wits! just destroy the planetary defenses first, retreat and then nuke it to oblivion!”
That would go badly so fast. I don't think hew would have been a traitor, but several other primarchs I see defecting because of his orders or him declaring them traitors for disobeying him.
From a lot of the short stories and codex campaigns I've read, the Iron Warriors really seem to be among the most logical and tactical forces used by Chaos. Most "warp smiths" (outside of the Dark Mechanicus) that actually make and maintain Chaos's ships, vehicles, and weapons are Iron Warriors. The Iron Warriors have a logical and methodical approach to combat, rather than charging in like berserk retards like the World Eaters, or relying on warp magic to do most of the heavy lifting like the Death Guard or Thousand Sons. One of my favorite stories is about an Iron Warriors dreadnought who becomes a ruler of a planet, and invites several other Chaos warband generals (who were from newer generations of traitors) to his palace to tell him an epic story of their combat deeds in exchange for some Eldar soulstones and other loot. None of the generals can impress the Iron Warrior dreadnought guy, and he basically calls them a bunch of worthless whippersnappers; and him and his minions kill all of the visitors except a Thousand Sons guy who steals the loot and escapes using some Tzeentch hax.
I love the fact how Maiorkill edited a picture of God Emperor and Henry cavill especially how recently Cavill asked publicly that if GW does a 40k movie he wants to be a primarch
I really like the image here on 3:34 because of how it's also present on rogal dorn's video. In a way really showing how the two bob the builders really are just two sides of the same coin, like whilst the warp died around dorn. The eye of terror was always present for perty and also how dorn had to learn all the things he needed as a builder from his grandfather, while perty pretty much knew everything from the get go I wonder who drew this and that
Interestingly, Big E intended on creating 50 Primarchs and 50 Legions. Captain General Valdor and Amar Astarte only managed to save 20 of the vials before Astarte’s lab burned.

The kill every tenth marine thing is actually a reference to the roman army.

They pretty much are dreadlocks. They are more loos then they look.
Why would he need to turn his head? If there is something to look at over there he will just command a servitor to bring it to him.

And also because Perty said nothing.
I agree, being pragmatic to buy himself time. He also gets to USE Chaos, and not give it credit for spoiling him with an eternity of resources.
I think it was because he rejected Nurgle which caused him to ask Tzeentch to turn Perty into a daemon primarch.
