This is my favorite chill out spot in Disneyland! My whole family has sensory sensitivities, so it's so nice to get away from the sounds and crowds, find a quiet spot to relax while the kids play, and recharge.
Former Cast Member here. I used to drive the Rafts to TOM SAWYER'S ISLAND, and it will ALWAYS be Tom Sawyer's Island for me. 💖 And there used to be a snack bar inside Fort Wilderness, where as a kid I'd get a dill pickle and beef jerky! OmNom!
What a fun tour of one of the least visited attractions at Disneyland! Thank you for the cool descriptions and for letting us see it through Miles' eyes!!
This is hands down one of my favourite places in Disneyland. I loved it when I was 5 (1979 - geez I’m old) and today for the simple beauty and oasis that it is. For me it truly is a world away from it all.
495. One of my favorite stories from the early days, was that you could rent a pole and fish and keep your catch. The problem was that people grew weary of carrying their fish around and disposed of them in flowerbeds and other places that created issues for the people who clean the kingdom.
I haven't been to the Island since my childhood. I was always too interested in riding all the attractions. I really need to make some time the next time I'm at Disneyland to visit the Island again. Thanks, Chris (and Miles)!
Tom Sawyer island reminds me of my grandparents. They would take my brother and I to Disneyland and they would play with us and climb around with us. Amazing memories💖
I have honestly never been to Tom Sawyer's Island/Pirates' Lair; I never knew there was this much to do! I will definitely try to hit that stop on the next trip, whenever that may be!
You gotta have a bunch of energy to expend just to feel like it’s fun. I mean coming from a 30+ year old you gotta be like high on life to enjoy this island. It is really cute seeing kids run around and enjoy it though. :)
Favorite memory for my family takes place on Tom Sawyer's Island. Off on the far side my son, who loved the pirates movies, found Captain Jack Sparrow. No one was around so he got to talk with him while no one was around. Loved that moment and the island.
I love Tom Sawyer Island! It's one of the best places in the park to break away from the crowds whenever it's too crowded and you feel like getting away from it all. To be honest, I'm really happy that Walt put Tom Sawyer Island in the park, it's a great way to be one with nature. Now, about that tie. I recently got my first job and I was told the dress casual. And I absolutely love that tie, I know that's one that I would wear!
Been to DL several times but have yet to make it over there so had no idea all you could do. My son would love it! Thanks for taking the time to do a video on it!
I remember exploring those caves back in the 70s when I was Miles's age. I only wish I could have explored it more often, but I will definitely go back for another look next time I'm there.
Everytime i go with my family, we always say we’re gonna ride the canoes or go to the island but we never end up doing it because we get distracted by other things. I definitely need to take a trip just to do different things other than the popular rides.
When I was a little kid I would run through those caves all day! Meeting Jack Sparrow over there was memory I will never forget! He asked if my poweraid was rum and was very disappointed when I said no.
I have been going to Tom Sayers island since I was a little tot, like the late 50s! I still love it! Now my kids are discovering this special treasure. May it go on forever.
Strangely I’ve never been on the island even though I’ve been going to Disneyland all my life. I’m definitely going next time. Thanks for another great vid!
Tom Sawyer Island FOREVER!!!! So great to know it was totally designed by Walt. Doesn't surprise me at all. It was my favorite place as a kid because you could just play and use your imagination. Back in the day, my parents would just leave us to play as long as we wanted while they sat in rocking chairs on the dock.
148!!! Easily over 100! Always loved Tom Saw......I mean Pirate's Island. Our kids always insist on going over there and they're 23 and 27 now! Timeless! Thanks Chris!
We were just at DL and DCA a week ago. So sad that we missed you. . . It would have been a blast to meet you. Thank you for making the best DL/DCA vlogs on the planet!
I just learned SO much from this video. I honestly forget about the island when I’m in Disneyland. I am definitely checking it out when I go in October! Thanks PPP!
Quick correction - Will Turner didn't own the blacksmith shop, he was the apprentice. That being said, it is heavily implied that the blacksmith doesn't actually do any of the work, Will does. The name of the shop on the island is a nod to the franchise, which is why it bears the Turner name. The tie looks real cool. Can I haz? Nice vid, BTW!
I haven’t been over to the island since I was a kid. It was still Tom Sawyers island then. I loved it! Definitely will need to check it out again on a future visit.
This is one of the best kept secrets in Disneyland! I had no idea about how much detail was here the first time I visited… there is so much to explore and it’s a wonderful place to hang out when the parks are really busy
When we went in August of 2019, I was disappointed that the Fort was just sitting there in a unkempt condition. A lot of my memories as a boy were in the Fort. I can't understand why Disney wouldn't keep it open, at least a water stand.
@@PeppersGhost The guns in the watch towers would jerk when you shot them. There was a door at the back inside of the Fort that connected to the tunnels.
A childhood favorite of mine! Still a favorite, but my childhood seems more distant than The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. What fun to see Miles exploring!
Great place to hang out and slow down from the fast paced crowds. To an old guy like me (or in Pirate Talk, an "Old Salt") I'll always remember this as Tom Sawyer Island.
Wow! I suggested it and you made a video on Tom Sawyer Island. (I’d like to think other people made the same recommendation too.) Thank you so much for all the videos.
Awesome video! Tom Sawyer's Island/Pirates Layer is one of my favorite places to visit. My best friend and I will go deep in the caves and eat the lunches we've packed for ourselves, and just have the best conversations!
Awesome video! I remember when there used to be paint brushes hidden on the island that you could bring to a Cast Member to redeem for a ride pass to your choice in the park. I've heard since that this doesn't happen anymore.
GREAT TOUR!!! I never knew about raising the treasure chest with the gnarly skeleton attached!!!😱 The people on the Columbia were so funny! “Daddy, why is that man in the polka dot tie yelling at us?”🤪
Your videos make me miss Disneyland soooooo much! And even when I think I know everything….you do a video on Tom Sawy-Pirate’s Lair! I look forward to seeing the “Disney Blippi” every week!!!!
This has got to be one of my favorite videos ever! I wasn't able to visit Pirates Lair when I visited DL a few years ago and I was so sad. I can't wait to take my toddler next year for his birthday! Love you guys!!!!
When I was a kid (1955) we attended the opening of “The Park”. Tom Sawyers Island was my favorite. Mom would let go out there with a time to come back. I had a wrist watch and this was her way of teaching me to be responsible.
This video is so great! I really love learning the history and how much Walt was a part of the design of Tom Sawyer’s Island. Also I really appreciate you mentioning and thinking about which parts of the island are wheelchair accessible. I think often many don’t think about that sort of thing until it is actually something they, or someone they care about, have to take into consideration. Thank you for all you do!
The message trailing off by the Dead Man's Chest reminds me of the last words of Joseph of Arimathea about the Castle of Arrrrrgh in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
That tie would make a great Vaders day gift. Those Barrels for the East India Trading Co has an E and an I. It also has four T's crossing to make the X in the middle.
Thank you so much Chris for this video! I will be visiting Pirate’s Lair soon with my 2 year old niece. I’m so excited!! I love your funny sense of humor and jokes!
Love this video and love that island! Crawling through all the awesome TINY caves is a blast and so much fun! Though yeah, I was sure sore the next day, ha ha! I think my buddy and I had as much fun (maybe even more) as the kids did. Another great video. PPP is the best!
my dad and i we’re trying to go on the canoes but neither of us had done them before. we ended up accidentally getting on the boat to go to tom sawyers island. we ended up hanging out and running around the fort and having so much fun for over an hour 😂
I videotaped walking around Tom Sawyer's Island in 1995 (it's on my channel). The fort used to have a fast serve counter where they sold drinks, and snacks. The retheming is cool to see.
Loved the video, we loved exploring Tom Sawyer Island when we were able to in 2018 (first family trip in 2016 it was closed) so much fun all for us big kids too!
I love how you could still be a kid while you are on the island, regardless of how old you are. Chris, you made it so much fun…ty.
23:45 Jessie Cowgirl hat on Miles is SOO FREAKING ADORABLE 🥰

Boy, that brings back memories! Close to 60 years since I explored those caves. Great video!
I'm almost 21 years old and I still love going to Tom Sawyer's Island!
"If you want a good workout, come here with a 4 year old..." 🤣🤣🤣 That's the truth!
Such a good dad. I love how you play with your son. Also, I always wondered where they kept the dragon.
495. One of my favorite stories from the early days, was that you could rent a pole and fish and keep your catch. The problem was that people grew weary of carrying their fish around and disposed of them in flowerbeds and other places that created issues for the people who clean the kingdom.

I love the fact that they have Will Turner’s Shop in there!! Also when Chris said “It’s a wheel you turn” all I could think of wa Wheel Turner😂

Tom Sawyers island is such a great escape, a hidden gem.
When I was a little kid I would run through those caves all day! Meeting Jack Sparrow over there was memory I will never forget! He asked if my poweraid was rum and was very disappointed when I said no.
One of my earliest memories of Disneyland is of Tom Sawyers Island!! I love how much there is to explore on the island!
I don't think I've ever been on the island, but it sounds like a perfect place for when we take my nephews!

I'm addicted to your videos. I can't believe I just spent nearly another half hour watching this. But they are very entertaining.
My brother loved Tom Sawyer Island when we were young. I always thought it was too hot, so I would not explore as much. It is a nice place though.
Thanks Chris! I was 104! Great memories when it was Tom Sawyer's Island!
This takes me back, I used to love exploring Tom Sawyer's Island as a kid. In fact....I still do!

We love tom sawyer Island. We love packing lunch and finding a shaded bench to enjoy our lunch. Best place to get away from the crowds!

I remember taking my son there in 2003 for Christmas. Such great memories.
I just learned SO much from this video. I honestly forget about the island when I’m in Disneyland. I am definitely checking it out when I go in October! Thanks PPP!
Myles, Tianna is my favorite princess too! She is beautiful. So easy to be star struck by her😍

We love watching you guys in our house!!
I haven’t been over to the island since I was a kid. It was still Tom Sawyers island then. I loved it!
Definitely will need to check it out again on a future visit.
I'm an adult, but exploring that island is so much fun! Does that mean I'm a kid at heart?
Disney always knew there was a lot of a kid in an adult and he was totally right
I would love it too. it looks so cool and fun! I saw some of the DW one as a kid, but I don't remember much of it.
Awesome video...🤗.. can't wait for the video of all the hidden Mickeys on the island...
I love Tom Sawyer’s Island. I wish they still sold Huck Finn Fizz
Brings back memories when I used to live down in that area. One of my favorite places to go when I was a kid was to defend the fort.
Why do I believe Chris would have wet finger tips any time he would pass a 'Don't Touch - Wet Paint' sign?

@@PeppersGhost The guns in the watch towers would jerk when you shot them. There was a door at the back inside of the Fort that connected to the tunnels.
Ya I miss that and hate the politically correct corrections to Disneyland drives me crazy
I loved Tom Sawyer's Island when I was a kid, the fort was open back then and you could explore everything...it was great!!
Tom sawyers island is a great place to take your kids to when they are tired of the lines.
I loved going there when I was younger. Took my kids there this summer and completely forgot how small those caves are haha
A childhood favorite of mine! Still a favorite, but my childhood seems more distant than The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. What fun to see Miles exploring!
Miles is the greatest explorer ever!! With a lil help from dad, of course!! Great video Chris!! Special time a great memories for u both. 👍🏽👍🏽
I remember going into that fort when I was younger. I miss Disneyland. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Great place to hang out and slow down from the fast paced crowds. To an old guy like me (or in Pirate Talk, an "Old Salt") I'll always remember this as Tom Sawyer Island.
I have always loved walking around this island
Wow! I remember running around there in 1977 as a 10 year old kid! So awesome!
The grandkids are going to love this! Thanks for the tour.
One of our favorite episodes ever. Tom Sawyer Island is the best.
Wow! I suggested it and you made a video on Tom Sawyer Island. (I’d like to think other people made the same recommendation too.) Thank you so much for all the videos.

I am almost as old as Disneyland and Tom Sawyer’s Island has always been a favorite place of mine. 😀
One of the best spots in Disneyland. Great places for taking photos.
Its been YEARS since i went to the island. Thank you for the tour!
Loved it. Brought back many memories of taking my children there. Thanks
Love the Disney Princesses, always so nice! 👍👍👍

The heart beating in the treasure chest is so cool! Another awesome video, you guys!
I went there when it was Tom Sawyer Island, but I have never been to Pirates' Lair. The new things they have added look so neat! Thanks Chris! :)
