Didn't work for my 40D, but glad it worked for you! I have also tried everything else that I could find, new date/time battery, cleaning terminals, new CF card, different lens, letting it sit overnight without a battery, "P" mode and hold shutter button down for 15 seconds - nothing worked. Nobody in our area repairs cameras anymore, and Canon hasn't provided support for 40D for years.

I had this problem with a 60D and I removed the battery and card selected P on the dial. hold the shutter button for about 12 seconds. Put the card and battery back in and it worked fine.
Yah but it was just temporary. Its kinda annoying and hassle when you do those ways just to open your camera. It will work but, man! Your camera isn't normal anymore. You do multiple process just to simply open up your cam.
This is probably too late an answer for you now, but a common error with lens connection problems is poor connectivity between the lens pins and the camera pins. Cleaning them usually provides a solution.

I had a canon battery grip then put a genuine canon battery in still didn't work then put a patona battery and it works thank you very much

Check the date on the battery. I bought mine in August of 2017, and almost a year later, the battery died. It expired in March of 2017.

My 70D is showing error 01 with all lenses and wont change aperture and wont autofocus. So wont get into live view or Video mode too...

Save your self the trouble Einstein here fitted a new batteries after using a 3rd party one 🙄
