  • Update on the repair of the MGB: Bodywork Repairs Getting Ready for Paint
A quick video showing the amazing progress that the team at Lone Pine Garage lonepinegarage... have made. I dropped the car off to them at 7pm on 4th May, less then a week later they have repaired the rear quarter, drivers door and repainted the engine bay.
I simply could not believe how good the car was looking, I was fully expecting it to be at least another week before it was ready for paint. I'll be working with them tomorrow; Friday 13th (hopefully it won't be unlucky!)

Top job. Amazingly quick for such splendid work. Many competitive cars here in the USA are not finished to such a degree, such as yours, and it was difficult to see the shunt, but you seem undaunted. Carry on.

Many thanks Lance, I can understand why some people don't spend so long preparing/finishing their race cars, you do run a risk of panel damage, stone, chips etc. Personally I wanted the car to be the best I could do.

Another fantastic video David…… It’s terrible that you had your very unlucky “off” in the first place but I’m thoroughly enjoying the resurrection of your B and the amazing pace at which the work is progressing.
I can’t wait for the next instalment!

I'm delighted with the progress so far, a fair way to go still, should have the car back at home next week.

I was fully expecting it to another week at least. It's up to me now (mostly) to make sure it's ready.

Bubble wrap ! Plenty of Bubble wrap in future , stop the dents and make you damn difficult to pass 🤭.. seriously though the people you have used to straighten and do bodywork deserve huge praise for not only how quickly they have done the repair but the quality they have achieved! Also with the country in such a mess have you thought about running it ? With your level of hard work and commitment we be quids in 👍

Many thanks for your kind message! One thing I would like in motorsport is more of the large foam barriers the same as Oulton park, I hit that barrier head on and came away with very little damage. Not sure I could run a country, having one racing car is more than enough for me!!

nice job, are they using single stage with hardner?
got released from rehab today! now i can walk all I want and not get yelled at!

Great news Michael, delighted to hear you are out of rehab.
We used clear over base; a matt colour coat (2K with hardener) and then a 2K lacquer. I would have preferred direct gloss, the same as the car was originally painted in 10 years ago but we were unable to source any.

David, when you get a moment can you give us a little info on your tyres please? The tread pattern appeals to me and 14” tyres aren’t too plentiful anymore. Thx

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks  2 года назад

Thanks for your message Bruce, the tyres are a Dunlop CR65 L14, in all honesty I don't feel they would be good for road use. They are a vintage cross-ply aimed to replicate what these cars used to race on, dry grip is OK, wet grip truly awful, I don't think they are road legal either.

@@davidrussellwilks Thanks David. Looking at the tread pattern I thought that might be the case. Best wishes and keep up the good work.

I think Dunlop make a "Sport Classic Tyre" I don't know what it's like though. I've always liked the look of the Yokohama A008 it looks like a 1970's race tyre. I'm sure there was a replica of the Dunlop R7 tyres being made a while ago, not sure if they went up to 14" though.
