It occurs to me how significant it is that *Alia* asked "how it's done" in response to how old the Worm was. And the implications of Jessica's stern "Quiet." when she asks to see how the WoL is made. Alia herself was subjected to "drowning" by "water" despite being "very young" (to say the least). Watching the act performed on an infant Sandworm is likely deeply objectionable and traumatic for her, but "Jessica" now cares more for her Kwisatz Haderach agenda than her children's' feelings. Alia was probably making an angry or objectionable comment over the proceedings and Jessica just brushed her off.
