  • Today, I have the FiFine K690 USB microphone in the Audio Hotline Studio! There is absolutely no denying that this mic is similar to the Blue Yeti.... so I decided to put a comparison of the K690 vs the Blue Yeti. Although, I wanted to mostly focus on the K690 itself, but the similarities between the two made me mention the Blue Yeti quite often.
    This mic is a reasonable price for what you are getting. In this review I go through all the accessories, build quality, specs, features, sound quality tests, and much more! If you are interested in purchasing this mic be sure to check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
    Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline! I'll see you Audio Nerds next time!

    I am thankful for the Fifine K690 because it delivered everything I wished the Blue Yeti had and I got rid of my Blue Yeti years ago before the K690 existed, I got rid of it because it was too large and too heavy and the nano was lacking features. Fifine K690 has all the same futures but in half the size and weight of the Blue Yeti. If a company doesn’t improve or deliver, I’m happy that other companies can innovate on good ideas to make them even better.

    Officially at my breaking point here with receiving the same comment 😂. If you are going to leave a question about me saying “Fine Fine” here is my default answer:
    “Fine Fine” is the way the company wants it pronounced, and they informed me on how to say it. My first couple reviews, I said it the way it seems like it should be said
    (Fi Fine). Then I ended up talking to some of their reps and doing some voiceovers for them. That is what all of them have told me “Fain Fain”... I agree though, definitely a little weird 😂

    Maybe this is subjective and of course this is more like a casual test, but my impression was that the omnidirectional on the Fifine lacked definition in terms of the direction of the sound compared to the Blue. But otherwise I think I actually liked the other samples better on the Fifine.
    Btw, one thing I read in an Amazon review that for some might justify the +30$ for the Blue is that someone mentioned the audio monitoring on the Fifine was not as true to the sound being recorded as on the Blue Yeti (or maybe they just got a defective unit).
    I wonder too if this mic could also be plugged to an Android phone using an OTG adapter and enabling an external mic on a dedicated video app (as I believe some do with the Blue Yeti).
    It would be so interesting if you would test the Boya BY-PM700SP and compare it to the the Fifine and the Blue, it's another Blue Yeti clone.

    • @FIFINE
      @FIFINE 3 года назад +5

      First off is to keep decent gain level, the dial setting on mic is of crucial importance. Set it below 50% if you're in a noisy room and the noise cant get rid of, such as the sound from fans or air-condition. Next, set computer input at around 80%. At last, the speaking range is another aspect that makes the great difference. Keep the mic 3-5 inches away from mouth, the closer the better.

    I just ordered one of these for $45 through their black friday sales. It should be a big improvement from my cheap yanmai, which has no gain adjustment.. So I either have to have it right up to my face or have a lot of background noise from cranking the gain via the laptop.

    • @FIFINE
      @FIFINE 3 года назад

      Cardioid pick-up pattern is better for podcasts, game streaming, vocal performances, voiceovers and instruments. And the K690 works on PS4/PS5. But the downside is that if you plug the headset into controller, PS4 input and output will change to controller automatically. Thus, You are supposed to split the microphone feature from headset with a 3.5mm Female to 2 Male adapter, or simply use the earbuds which has two loops on its connector, then you're good to go.

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  Год назад

      The best option is definitely two mics. There are a ton of advantages to each person having their own mic.
      Just a few examples:
      you can change the level of each person’s mic so the levels match and one person isn’t way louder than the other. You can change the EQ or processing for each mic to compliment the individual person’s voice. If you accidentally talk at the same time you can mute one person in post, or if you don’t want to mute one, it will still be way easier to hear each person with two mics. Most importantly the sound will be substantially better.
      Two people using one mic can turn into a mess pretty easily. However, like you said, it is cheaper. In the long run, You definitely won’t regret getting two mics.
      One note though:
      If you are going to be in the same room or the room you are recording in had a lot of echo or reverb, I would HIGHLY recommend going with dynamic mics. They will reject each others voices, and the room, way better than the K678 will. That will give you a much better and cleaner recording.
      If you are trying to save as much money as possible and you want to go with two dynamic mics… you could get a setup like this:
      Behringer XM8500 mics (x2):
      amzn.to/3N9RYlf
      Behringer umc202hd:
      amzn.to/3FkoM9j
      Mono price XLR cables (actually REALLY nice but just inexpensive):
      amzn.to/3TYkCrJ
      At that point you can hold the mic, some people like to, or you could get a cheap desktop stand, traditional mic stand, or a boom arm.
      Something like this:
      amzn.to/3TYldtt
      Hopefully this helped!

      You can try to turn down the volume to 50% with the knob, then set the input volume on your computer to under 70%. And try to keep a speaking distance of 3-5 inches and keep the mic as further away from the fans as possible. Or you can consider getting a boom arm for it to get the K690 even closer to your mouth and even further away from the noises.

APO feels like a breeze to my pc really - it runs in the background and doesnt even use 0.1% of cpu power. Also it uses the same Reaper FM plugins which I used in OBS.

      K690 is suitable for the boom arm stand coming with the 3/8'' to 5/8'' adapter. Since we don't know which arm stand you have, we recommend buying a boom arm on Amazon directly. But if you have already known the specification of your boom arm, you can just purchase the adapter.

    Does anyone know how to make this mic not pick up background sound like keyboard

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  3 года назад

      Make sure it is in cardioid mode and that the keyboard is directly behind the mic, not to the side.
      Honestly though, condenser mics are way more sensitive to background and room noise, I always urge people to get dynamic cardioid or super cardioid mics when they expect a lot of background or room noise.
      Your best option is what I mentioned previously, cardioid mode on the mic and the further you can get that mic away from that keyboard and have the keyboard directly behind the mic, the better it will sound.

      First off, you should know what your main purpose is. The biggest difference between K678 and K690 is that K690 is equipped with multiple pick-up patterns. If you don't have the demand of several pick-up patterns, then you can just purchase the K678.

    is this mic better than the hyper x solocast in mic quality??

    • @FIFINE
      @FIFINE 3 года назад +1

      Before you make a comparison between K690 and Hyperx Solocast, you first need to know whether you need the four pick-up patterns. If not, we will recommend the K678. The price is totally the same between the K678 and the Hyperx solocast. In terms of sound quality, they also have a pretty similar warm tone. K678 is equipped with the 3.5mm headphone jack, volume knob and the mute button. That means K678 have more functional buttons than the hyperx solocast. If you accept the brand premium, you can purchase the solocast. But if you need to monitor your voice during recording or don't get enough budget, the K678 should be your choice.
      Anyway, if it is hard to decide, you can purchase both and test, then return the one you don't need.

      We recommend using the microphone only with Windows and Mac computers. If you want to use it with a smartphone and tablet for recording, you will need a suitable USB adapter. But you can only hear playback after you unplug the mic. So even if your iPad has a headphone jack, the mic and headphone still can not work at the same time.

      It's usable. A good audio interface with an XLR mic would get you further in the long run, but if this is the budget you're looking at, then yes, it will work! Especially If you want to utilize the multiple polar patterns, this is definitely the cheapest entry-level option. A good XLR Multiple Polar Pattern Mic + Interface is going to be closer to $300-$500.

In order to plug it into my computers (all of them only have USB-C ports) I had to use a female USB-A to male USB-C adapter. Since the cable that comes with it is Mini USB (Mic End) to USB-A (to Computer). It works great with the adapter, but I do wish it came with a USB-C cable. You can find those adapters for super cheap on amazon... but If you were thinking it was USB-C, no worries, it is USB-A.
