We have long resisted getting an Echo. Never really saw a need. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB When we recently completed some remodeling in our home, we realized we had failed to add a switch to turn on a certain lamp across the room. We couldn't run new wiring (which would have been expensive if we could), so we got our first Echo which completely solved our problem for about $40 (Echo Dot and smart plug). We just ask Alexa to turn on/off that light. Heartily recommend it to solve this kind of conundrum!

*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

If this was a factory reset then why does the Amazon app still retain the name I associated to the device? I am having fairly consistent disconnects with my echo dot, all other WiFi devices are working perfectly. The amazon Echo full size devices are working perfectly as well. Have moved to diff areas of house and right next to the WiFi router, with no change.

I bought used one on ebay and did this "hard reset" and put it in my system ....but it still is taking commands from previous owner? It chimed an alarm last night and woke my wife up this am saying "time to take antibiotics" (no one taking antibiotics here) What the hell? The instructions say to "de register" device before giving to someone else and THEN do a hard reset ....is this thing junk now because it was not delivered registered?

Mine was not resetting. I saw where someone replied that you may have to hold the buttons for up to 4 minutes, after 2 minutes nine reset.

My echo dot 2nd generation doesn't respond at all. It is constantly showing blue light (not blinking at all), not a single button responses nor the resetting process works. I tried restarting several times still the same issue. anyone have a solution or might be familiar with such a situation?

Found a fix: Hold down the microphone and minus buttons on the Echo Dot until the orange light appears (no longer), then release.
