I purchased this flute and let me tell you it sounds incredible, it took me 5 hours to find the sweet spot now I'm hooked. The only thing, is that its tuned to D# not D most . If you are going to order this specify the exact tuning you want.
@@mikimilostnic2366 This flute is perfect for beginners and for the price is sounds great. keep in mind that this one is 100$ their are some flutes that go over 1000$, this will not sound as loud or as good as the more expensive ones but if you are starting out its perfect. I got mine in D standard concert tuning so i can record and jam with it.
Thanks! for this video I just found! Your instruction on each different flute...now i understand so much better of them. I purchased a traverse bamboo flute about 12 years ago but the instruction that came with are so difficult understand...and i gave it up. Now your video provoked me to start again. i also will check into your website.
I'm having so much fun with this side blown shakuhachi I bought from you Eric. I've never played a wind instrument before and so I spent the first 45 minutes blowing on it, confused as to why it wasn't making a sound. :p After reading your instructions I managed to produce a tone and quickly noticed that if you don't blow correctly, you can still produce a tone, but the finger holes (one by one) won't make a difference. It's really subtle and I'm really loving the learning process. -Blessings
@heavymusic1scool Yeah. He has a microphone hooked up to an amplifier. He plays his flute into the mic. The signal travels through the cable to a reverb pedal. Said pedal gives the sound the light echoing effect. It's similar to how you'd add reverb to an electric guitar.
@Saturnstales He is playing a bamboo one! Check out his website in the description if you want to purchase one for $90-$150 plus shipping. They are traditionally made out of root but a true high quality one made from root can cost you thousands. You can probably find them for $500+ if you search online hard enough. Remember that the end blown version is the traditional one.
@Xlander1000 Hi there, this video was made in 2007, hence the prices have gone up since then. Erik does sell a bunch of his flutes at a much discounted price on his website under "WHAT"S NEW" and check out the Cascabel flutes. Hope that helps.
I ordered one of these from you in 2008 with Dragon scales singed onto it, the side technique Shakuhachi! Included a leather pouch and one of your DVDs, too. I'm holding it and practicing with it as I watch this video. My real name is Celeste if you still have the receipts lol!
@heavymusic1scool I spent $150 on a flute from him for my very first side blown flute and I would do it again. Totally worth it in my opinion. You just can't get too frustrated, it'll take time to master. Like guitar, or any instrument for that matter.
@heavymusic1scool The only thing his amplification system changes is a reverberation quality but yes the flutes really do sound that good once you get the technique down.
mine cost 20 dollars...but i guess bamboo is getting very rare because its 125 dollars now...maybe its worth it...since this one comes with reverb built in...jeez
Hi Tex: I will still sell one for $20 from my special sales box. Might have a bend or a blemish from the rubbing of a past hurricane. And this helps our humanitarian work in Nicaragua. Reverb not included. But encouraged when you record. : ) Erik
I bought this and followed his instructions on how to hold it. It sounds beautiful… but… my hands are too small. My left index and thumb are stretched to their limit and it’s uncomfortable to play for me for this reason. I’d love a recommendation on what ti use for smaller hands.
@XraineX if you want to play the flute with music or live you have to order the concert D one, its more expensive but its standard 440 tuning. I'm not sure what you mean by the 21 tuning, I didn't order the concert d and it came in D# . hope that helps.
@shatomea I'm sure Erik's flutes are wonderful and I have no doubt that they are worth every penny. I will just have to stash some money away until I have enough. I was just surprised that he would say the flute was only $20 in the video and then when I visited the website I found that the price was actually much higher so I was a little surprised and dissapointed.

@alxk78 well the more inexpensive one is labelled the sakuhachi 21 tuning... What does this one not have compared to the concert key one? And also, why is it called concert D? I thought the universal concert key tuning key is C....
