The 50mm 1.8 EF is the first lens I bought, and I absolutely love it. I learned a lot about composition by having to move around, too! I'd definitely get this if I had an R. Great video!
I do have one of these for my EOS R6. I mainly use the R6 for wildlife with longer lenses but I find that I really like the 50mm for indoor family stuff. I do feel that the focus motor is pretty loud and I would want to use it for video with the internal mike but otherwise I have zero complaints about performance or image quality.
Just got the new R7 and looking at this lens. With crop factor it would be roughly 80mm which is actually what I would prefer as I want to get into portraits and I have heard that a full frame 85mm lens is very good for weddings, portraits and so on.
Just waiting this lens to arrive with Canon R50 + 18-45 kit lens. It was interesting that camera body + kit lens was cheaper than the camera body so that's why I also ordered a kit lens as well. Within one hour those should arrive, interesting to see how Canon R50 and these lenses feel in real life after years using other cameras and lenses.
Am looking at purchasing the Canon 800D.....Will this lens fit my camera. I'm an Aussie but lived in Edmonton as a teenager....beautiful country...awesome pics, thank you 🙂🙂🌲🌲
See, i like these types of video's. Honest real world no bullshit. All these young "youtuber photographers" say this lens in alright or stay away from it. Only go with the 35mm or the 85mm. Or buy the USM L version of the 50mm etc. Love the video as well. Im definitely picking up the 50mm rf and 24-105mm rf lens.
Enough with the gratuitous "bringing up the camera to the face shot" its seriously getting old. You can try a product shot instead. Idk as a viewer that's getting old
I like these old-school type of videos with modern technology.. this video is gem
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.
Dave is a real OG 😎 Great review!

I just got this lens for my r100 and I am loving it. I had an old DSLR and loved the 50 mm for that.
Still using the 50mm mk1 I bought back in 1989 with an EOS 600, now via an adapter to Fuji X. Images are still crisp and not once has it let me down.
im meant to be getting one for my birthday which is in 6 weeks, and i am damn exited
even tho im only using a r100, i think it will take fire shots

I have one on my Rebel T2i and I love using it!

I had maybe ten lenses like 50 1.8, for Nikon, Canon, Olympus, DSLR, mirrorless, film camera, and I should say, Canon RF is my favorite.

35 f1.8 macro is?
I just bought the Canon EOS RP and am trying to find lenses that won’t break my bank. What are some good wide angle and 21mm lenses for this camera?
I wish it was weather sealed.
Dave, which strap are you using?
Hi, I am using an older Black Rapid strap in the episode.
Sold.
Your daughter should be an eye model!
Lens: 150 Bucks
Body: 3000 Bucks
That cheap lens though
pro tip : watch movies on Flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Duke Fox Yea, been watching on flixzone for months myself :D
Does it not come with a lenshood?
There is a no hood in the box. The optional hood is the ES-65B. Thanks
No, it doesn't. The lens hood is $249...
Classic Canon.
@@rl4bzs A simple piece of plastic cost as much as the lens. How stupid does Canon think we are.
@@TVe200 i think he made a spello here. the ES-65B hood is like 29€. and noname brand versions should be even cheaper.
This lense is really tight on cropped sensor cameras. So be aware.
Wait.. is there any cropped sensor RF mount camera ???
@@leonardmiguel sorry I didnt see the RF part. I indeed mean for EF cropped....
Tight on cropped = perfect for portrait :)
I will stick with my nifty 50. Not enough difference to justify the new lens.
Why do I always get the feeling that Dave is a functioning alcoholic who’s desperately trying to hide his crippling attraction to Evelyn?
Because you’re both of those things?...
