    Great video! Music is a tad loud in some places though.
    Also interesting theory of 'overlapping counters'. Makes me think about how the best overhead attack spinner bots can do a similar thing with wedge/dustpan configs and running backwards like a vert, where they aim to out-control non control bots with the front but can then attack like a vert backwards against pure control bots that might get under them.

      That's a great example of another type of overlapping counters. The wider the range of robots your design is able to counter, the better off you'll be.

    I was impressed with Rotators implementation of Modular Overlapping Counters a few Battlebot seasons ago. Thagomizer takes it to the next level. Great design.

    There's another big tactic here that gets overlooked by a lot of spinner bots: you keep the weapon out of reach of the enemy until you're ready to use it. Tantrum, is a perfect example of this, as are the various hammer-saw builds.
    I look forward to seeing a Thagomizer-esque build from you in the heavyweight class!

    I have a dream battle bot that Ive been designing that works the same way, it attack the side from the front not by rotating but using a sideway hammersaw, it's cool to see someone thinking of something similar, great bot!

    As soon as I saw the first video you did with Thag V1 I knew you had a potential game-changer, that little thing hit opponents like a freight train. I’m really excited to see where this goes and if it can scale up above 12lb. The key from now on I suspect is getting the reliability to a point where it can take and dish out endless monster hits without breaking down

    Amazing stuff! I’m a big dinosaur fan and always thought Thagomizer would be a great name for a robot but never thought that the actual principle of that attack style would work. Nicely explained and thought out :)

    Genuinely very interesting, and goes to show how such a simple idea also has some complicated nuances to it, what with the trade off of RPM and Bite being a main factor for a lot of spinners.

    Somewhere in an old notebook I have a sketch of something like this that relies on the whipping motion to increase the weapon damage - love to see new designs like this!
    Ik it'd probably be hard/impractical, but I can't help but wonder how some meltybrain hardware & software might work in a bot like this - driving normally for the majority of situations but having a melty mode for times when there's time and space to spin up for a really big hit

      I've actually given Meltybrain Thagomizer some thought before, it would be great in situations where the wedge isn't doing it's job for some reason and I need to go full offense. Would be awesome, however requires some complicated hardware. Got to iron out the issues with the current version first but it might come at some point in the future (:

    Incredibly fascinating robot! I've had a similar idea (about using spinning the robot to increase bite) although I don't think I would have been able to streamline the design anywhere near the much. I hope it goes far! my only worry is the ramifications of having that much kinetic energy go back through the robots tail.

    Great design. It looks like you direct drive the blade on thagomizer. Do you think you could get away with that on a beetle?

      Yeah ant Thagomizer runs a direct drive, however I'm already running on edge of feasibility at antweight scale: unhardened the motors explode immediately, and I've also have the motor shaft shear. With beetleweights hitting many times as hard and motor shaft strength not scaling nearly as much l I don't think it would be possible to mount it only on one side like on Thagomizer.
      If you were to replace the shaft and/or mount the weapon on both sides it might be possible to keep the motor alive. Unfortunately I don't have any experience direct-mounting weapons in higher weightclasses.

      I can't confirm anything yet. But I've been developing Minimizer with the intention of making the transition to heavyweight as streamlined as possible ;)
