I feel the exact same way. It's ridiculous. She doesn't have a problem scolding Rachel whose still a baby whereas Roya's old enough to know better.
I thought it was really weird maybe my imagination. I even reviewed it a few times but @14:15 Rachel started crying hysterically as if she had been hurt NOT a temper tantrum cry. She's always trying to get her mom's attention wanting to be picked up but when she came to her Rachel couldn't get away fast enough. When she picked her up she freaked and kept trying to get away as if she was afraid. Sakineh even makes a weird comment to Roya about Rachel being upset with her. Even the times she takes something away from her she still wants to be held. Any other time the cameraman would film it but this time he stayed dead locked on Roya playing on the whiteboard. Maybe nothing. The situation bothered me. It just didn't sit well with me.

Something Sakineh has done with Roya is treat her more like a girlfriend than a daughter. She let's her light fires, stir hot food, do laundry, bathe Rachel, wash dishes, grocery shop, hold the card to pay etc... and Roya thinks she's on even ground with adults. She even confides in her 3 year old and asked her if it's ok to marry the driver. She needs a phone to call mom or a girlfriend if she needs to talk to someone. This up bringing has really messed up Roya mentally!!
She's teaching her how to do things that will benefit her later in life. Their culture is a lot different than most. Women are taught young how to run a home. They also marry young. It's all the mother knows. Stop hating on a culture because it isn't the way you were raised.
